Now you need to go back and hit South Leaf, Blue Blossom, Steam Donkey, and the bottom half of Fir. My favorite loop is to start at gate 2, head up Sierra Morena, down Fir, down Manzanita, down Crossover, up Gordon Mill, down Steam Donkey, up Spring Board, down Blue Blossom, down Spring Board, up Gordon Mill, and down Sierra Morena.
My first mountain bike ride ever was at Skeggs, 22 years ago. Haven't been back to ride there in well over a decade, makes me want to take a trip back down to the Bay Area. Thanks for posting. Channel is great.
Brian, Cool to see a good quality vedio of our local stomping grounds! Thanks for that. I'm up there twice a week and have never seen a big cat yet. I've been climbing out at near dark so many times and often by myself. Don't want to see that big cat then! LOL. Skeggs is ALL ABOUT knowing the good routes! I'm currently holding down a few of fastest descent segments for the year on those trails you rode. I only say that because I'm 59 and 3/4s ! LOL. Holding it down for us Mature fellows! Good meeting you at the MTBR tent at SO! Love the videos and keep them rolling! Dan
I live Upstate New York and ride around in the Adirondack region...always a good chance of meeting a mountain lion!!! I pack friskies in my wedge just in case. Great Video, thanks!
Ha! Jay Leno had one of those little front loader BMWs on his show not too long ago. Nice to see you taking more jumps and side lines.... and OMG that uphill rock garden was brutal!
Ya man. We have had our share of weather in Oregon so far this year. Breaking rain records, and between the wind and snow storms, so much blowdown on the trails. gotta keep that pack-saw handy.
55-y-o here who does intermediate, flowy runs on a 30-y-o m-bike with no suspension, just big tires: That was great fun to watch, and actually instructional for someone with no experience doing this kind of riding. Oh, wait, I did accidentally go to a place like this that was not rated accurately and did not believe riders actually do this type of trail. I am ready for another bike now, but not for that kind of day. Thanks dudes.
Glad you enjoyed it!! I try not to encourage the folks that buy a new bike every year, but I have no problem cheering you on if you're gonna buy a new bike! Thanks for watching
If you want more pop off of jumps, it can help to have two different suspension setups written down: a stiffer one (~20% sag) for jumpy trails that aren't very rough, and a softer one (~30-35% sag) for long, rough descents. I usually flip back and forth between settings, as it only takes about five mins to change. Having two setups helps reduce arm pump on rough descents and wallowing in mid stroke on jump trails.
Great minds think alike. As soon as I saw you hit that branch I thought to myself I hope that's not poison oak...then you said the same thing. LOL! Nice ride. Holy Cow elevation for such a short ride. I'm making sure I have my climbing legs before I head that way.
Gu hack I worked out a few years ago. I buy Gu five or so at a time. I wrap them each in a little plastic wrap and then put them in the drawer. As I use one on the trail, I roll it up and seal it in the scrap of cellophane it was wrapped in. Then just toss it when I get to a trashcan. Never get sticky from it again.
GU Packet Pro Tip: Take the spent packet, rub the top in the dirt that I'm sure you can find on the trail, and that bad boy will seal itself! Skeggs looks rad! Need to get out to Cali something fierce!
Its so awesome watching your videos, especially like this one through the woods. The scenery is is so beautiful, reminds me of home (Montana). I'm not to sure if Glacier Park have trails like this, but they have some amazing scenery there. I might be a dork for putting this on here (maybe it's the mom in me.) But next time try taking a small zip lock bag with you for your sticky snacks. Eat, go, no mess and cheep!. lol.
Definitely a good idea with the ziplock for garbage! That way I can pick up other stuff along the trail as well. I think there are some trails around Glacier that are bike legal, I've gotta get there eventually!
About that suspension "pop" you're talking about, it seems as though Matt actually does half a bunnyhop on those lips, so he manuals on them, that's why gets more air.Great ride though!
That does make sense now that I think of it, as Danny MacAskill had 0 suspension in that bunny hop video I put up. Just means I've gotta work on the skills
But on a serious note, when you are there alone.....and you do drop on the side, will people actually find you on a short time or is it pretty much game over?
You sure it wasn't a bob cat? Mountain lions have been extinct in WNC since like the early 1900s. I have the opposite dream of Brian so im hoping theres not a mountain lion lurking around.
you know, it happened so fast. it could've been a bob cat. would've been a huge freak'n bob cat but .... all i know is i was climbing to five points with one eye looking behind me the whole way lol
Surprised a mountain lion coming down Lawndale at Annadel a couple of years ago. Came around the mountain into the next drainage and scared it. It was gone in two jumps and barely made a sound. Mostly just saw the long tail flowing behind it as I had to keep my eye on the trail.
Hey! Love your videos! You were riding at my stomping grounds! Was just there yesterday in fact! Looks like you were in good company and had fun this time around! I'll enjoy this video for all the days I can't ride. Hope you got to try the Karma grip, we make a Karma Grip Extension Cable that makes it ideal for the Chesty.
Roach pad! That's old school goodness from BC 👍 Skeggs....a credit card trail. Have all your fun up front. But pay for it in the end plus interest with that monster climb out when your tired 😬
Brian, I am considering taking the brake-less bmx downhilling for the lols... likelihood I'll die out of 10? Little different from the normal Norco full susp.
Woa.. Those trails had some serious features. Very nice and raw. Clearly had some rain lately. I hate Gu. Just so messy and a lot of waste. I prefer Margarita BLOKS. Water in the bladder. Hammer nutrition, and others, have anti-fatigue caps/pills loaded with minerals and stuff. Clean, small, light, and tasteless. Your bike was making some funny spoke sounds in the beginning. That or hub-engagement ping. Getting pop is mostly technique and not so much suspension. And hey.. you palm your grip on the climbs. I do that too. Learned it from a body builder friend of mine in the gym. Good stuff.
Yeah, I think I should look into some of those little salt capsules for when it starts to heat up this summer. Haha, all about the thumbs over the bars!
Hey Brian....I put Propel packets in my water bladder. They do have artificial sweetener if that's high on your list of no-no's, but it's Splenda...not aspartame. It has electrolytes in it, and gives the water a little flavor. I rinse out the bladder, and shove it in the freezer so nothing grows in it. Been doing it for years now...haven't grown a tail, and never any mold in my water bladder. I think it helps significantly on longer rides. I think it's like 2 bucks for a packet of 10 and there are 4-5 flavors. It's by the drink mixes. If nothing else...my water doesn't taste like plastic. :-)
Yo BKXC ! Just binge watched almost all your vids ! love the riding ! you gotta come to Barrie Ontario and come ride some trail here, some of the best in Ontario for sure !
Brian, I have been watching for a couple of months trying to decide whether or not to subscribe. This video did it for me! I really liked your interactions with your riding buddies, especially the war stories and tips about gear and food. Finally, you only said "sh_t" once! Keep on keepin' it clean and green!
Nice! My local trail system that I ride at least 2x every week. Not really a full face helmet kinda place though. Looks like you had fun even with all the downed trees haha.
Talking about suspension feel, it would be awesome to see you get your hands on a quarq shockwiz. That way you could see and show what the difference is in feel that it yeilds.
If you're ever riding in San Luis Obispo, California I would love to show you around! Tons of trails here with some incredible descents. Let me know man, love your videos!!
I'm a student, so I am almost always free all weekend and a lot of days during the week. I'm sure you get tons of comments asking to ride, but I'm actually serious. If I have a few days notice I will definitely make it happen!
thanks for showing your vids i've almost quit watching tv and watch the 3 musketeers speaking of you 3 ask seth about rebound so you can pop off bumps like matt did there

You can complete the trail on your arse in POC shorts . And we all know On The Trail You Only Die Once 💀 another tee shirt right there Brian! Or how about Rest in Pieces trail side ! 😂😂😂maxed and out! !! Tree there!!! 4 now to use😁
Yes! Finally some bay area rides again.
😁👍
We need more! Scowering Brian’s channel for more Bay Area guides since I’m new to mtb
AGAIN WITH THE DAMN MOUNTAIN LIONS???? One day you're going to get what you wish, and you're gonna wish you hadn't 😆😆😆
Hahahaha, the law of attraction!
Ha you're on my home trails :-) I cut the gap into the branches that you're passing at 1:22, it's funny to see my work on video :-)
Nice!! Very cool
No, I sawed off part of the fallen tree so that one could ride through. Before it was blocking the trail completely.
Hahaha, that list never ends! (That's a good thing)
Too late to the party, but came to say go back and ride South Leaf! It has some of the most interesting bits in the preserve.

Very cool! You should take a trip back down memory lane
It's cool seeing you video trails I have ridden before.
Yeah, really cool to show off the local stoke!
"it's not a mountain bike unless you forget something," story of my life!!!! Beautiful trail, alot of variety, cant believe this is in california!
Haha ain't it the truth!

Haha, no late night rendezvous hopefully!! That's awesome you're holding down some solid times. Glad you said hi, Dan!
You're giving me some great options of places to ride in the Bay Area I didn't know about. Thanks for the heads up..👍
LMBO!!! "It's not a mountain bike ride unless you forget something". So true brother.
Hahaha, too damn true
Awesome trails. I like the little conversations during the breaks.
Me too, those guys had some great fun stuff to talk about!
I live Upstate New York and ride around in the Adirondack region...always a good chance of meeting a mountain lion!!! I pack friskies in my wedge just in case. Great Video, thanks!
Hahahaha, I think the mountain lion would prefer a cat named Frisky to the feline food!
all that greenery is beautiful and I miss it. now I'm stuck in the desert.
Nice ride! Beautiful country up there, that trail will keep you honest. Thank you.
Thanks Jody, it was some nice scenic stuff!
You finally made it out here. Manzanita with that uphill rockgarden is a beast. You actually did pretty well for the 1st try! Nice work
Thanks Matt!!
Ha! Jay Leno had one of those little front loader BMWs on his show not too long ago.
Nice to see you taking more jumps and side lines.... and OMG that uphill rock garden was brutal!
Hahaha, I want another shot at that crazy rocky climb. Lines on the left!
Hi Brian you say your dream is to see a mountain Lion well they have probably seen you riding by many times lol awesome trial.
No doubt about it!!
f**king gnarly start to the trail....the ride through the shaded forest was absolutely beautiful
Thanks man! It was a good one
Gnarly trail Brian! The storms in Oregon have beat up our trails too. Great vid as usual... head on a swivel for Bigfoot my friend. ;)
Ya man. We have had our share of weather in Oregon so far this year. Breaking rain records, and between the wind and snow storms, so much blowdown on the trails. gotta keep that pack-saw handy.
Bruce. Yes.. I've logged many hours already on the trails getting them ready for some of the races. Crazy!
Haha, luckily we only have bears and mountain lions, no bigfoot until you get up past Redding!

Haha, luckily got no rashes from this ride. So much dang elevation, earning every turn!

Congrats on the 50k SUBS!!!! keep the great vids coming buddy!
Thanks so much!!
Nice footage. Awesome looking trail. Pretty landscape.
😁👍
SHWEEET!!! Keep on Shredding my dude!🚵🔥
😁👍
Been to Skeggs 2x , my 1st one is with a crash🤘 yep with full face helmet. Sick trail and its time to go back.
Agh! Gotta get back on the horse
Nicely done edit. It is always a puzzle for me which parts to leave there and which to cut out and I usually end up with too long of a clip.
Thanks Mateusz! Haha, it's definitely a skill I've been working on for a while now.
It shows. It was super nice for me to witness the whole process, the ride, extended cut, and now this clip.
Awesome to see all the trails around the world you've hit and then you go to Skeggs, the ones I grew up on. Keep it up man! P.S. man that is eroded
Glad you enjoyed it!
Big Balls Bry! It is intimidating when your buddies suit up and your not. Beautiful trail man!
Hahaha, made it out alive!
WOW! this trail IS amazing... it gives me that tingling sensation just watching the Vid... kodus Brian!
That's pretty cool!
GU Packet Pro Tip: Take the spent packet, rub the top in the dirt that I'm sure you can find on the trail, and that bad boy will seal itself! Skeggs looks rad! Need to get out to Cali something fierce!

wow nice video quality! the colors definitely emerge you into the trail!
Thanks so much John!

I understand their full face helmet and full protective gear... I'd shit my pants
Hahaha
But on a serious note, when you are there alone.....and you do drop on the side, will people actually find you on a short time or is it pretty much game over?
It's generally a soft landing - you could be covered in poison oak, though, so in a couple of days, you might wish you'd died on the trail!
dude, had my first ever encounter with a Mountain Lion yesterday at Bent Creek
Lambert Mixson Where is Bent Creek?
Asheville, NC
You sure it wasn't a bob cat? Mountain lions have been extinct in WNC since like the early 1900s.
I have the opposite dream of Brian so im hoping theres not a mountain lion lurking around.

you know, it happened so fast. it could've been a bob cat. would've been a huge freak'n bob cat but .... all i know is i was climbing to five points with one eye looking behind me the whole way lol
I would bet many a Mountain Lions have seen you. Looks like a fun ride.

Killer trail, really liked this one. thanks for the ride along
Thanks Peter!!
Awesome video as always, loving that 5010!
Thanks Jay! Yeah his 5010 is a SWEET machine

So dang cool that you've stuck around Nelson!! I appreciate it bro
That looked tight, off camber, sketch ! Fun!!
Some hairy stuff out there!
Sweet bikes! Cool trail, definitely worth a ride!
It's a punisher!

Seriously amazing!
Those strawberry banana goo gel packs are what I prefer too...the taste is really quite good!
Yeah, I enjoyed it!
Nice! My local trail system that I ride at least 2x every week. Not really a full face helmet kinda place though. Looks like you had fun even with all the downed trees haha.
Haha, still had a good time!
Loved it! Good to see you spinning on wet roots instead sticking to rock like shit to a shovel. Wet roots are a trails levellers. Everyone spins!
Hahaha, big time spinning!
Talking about suspension feel, it would be awesome to see you get your hands on a quarq shockwiz. That way you could see and show what the difference is in feel that it yeilds.
Yeah man, I'm trying to get one!
Awesome trails, it looks like you are riding on Endor. Did you see any Ewoks ?! hahaha
Haha not one damn Ewok!
Nice ride looks like it's worth checking out
Definitely!
Great video 👍 keep it up
New subscriber from Germany here 😄
Thanks bud!!

wow that's in cali? crazy different to anything else iv seen there. Beautiful! and I live in Derby! haha
Cali has EVERYTHING!
That trail looks amazing bro 👍🏻 nice job
It was a good one!
Skeggs! Where I left my legs on our way back up to the car... That fork on the trail "The bail out point"...
Hahaha, any trail where you have to climb out at the end is a killer
There's a bar width limit for the trail 😀 Berms were nice!
Hahaha, gotta watch out for them bar grabbers!
That place is one never ending Ridge line!
On the edge the entire time!
Nice workout! Looked really fun.
Thanks Daddio!
Ultimate Santa Cruz arsenal!
Haha, 3 for 3!
you inspired me to start mountain biking! love the videos!
Awesome, I love hearing that!
thanks for showing your vids i've almost quit watching tv and watch the 3 musketeers speaking of you 3 ask seth about rebound so you can pop off bumps like matt did there
Thanks Thim!!
ok Brian, 10am, tomorrow, Bike park Wales. will see you there .... hahaha
Hahaha, that's the spirit!
This thing is amazing
Manzanita Trail is crazy at Skeggs
It's a good one!!
Are there many good trails in the Palo Alto area? Even unmarked. I'm thinking of moving there but want to make sure there is riding closer than Santa Cruz
Sick ride man, keep rippin! P.S. Congrats on 50k subscribers.... but where da shirts at???
Thanks dude! Working on some stuff, stay tuned
I assume you know this but popping off little lips and jumps is all in the technique, great video as always! I'm so jealous :(
Didn't know that!
Love the geology shout out ha
Haha thanks dude
@1:55 when BKXC says 'this is eroded' thats how NIMB people get trials closed. If someone out there has a shove go take care of it before they close the trail due to erosion concerns.
That air pop is in legs and hands, not that much in suspension :D He is a good rider!
Definitely!

Thanks!
HELLO MOUNTAIN BIKERS
This is an awesome video brahh!
Thanks man!
1:15 a not so successful start :D And congrats on 50k bruh!
Haha yep. Thanks bud!
In your experience are there good trails for Gravel/XC bikes out there? I live in San Mateo.
Brian when was this ? i would think skeggs would be a little drier by now. that fallen tree on ECDM is still there?
good seeing you at sea otter and thanks for the sticker
I don't remember the exact date but I have my Strava in the description!
anyone know what the diamondback heist 3.0 is like or if they would recommend it
MrRobot Jahobo Ask Seth's Bike Hacks. He's the Diamondback guy.
mwinner101 cheers mate
I went mountain biking once and the trails are so small and I faceplanted full force into a tree
Does anyone know what helmet Matt was using? (the black/blue one)
awesome ride man
Thanks bud!
awesome gnarly trail....
😁👍
you need to come to Canada again!!
Most definitely!
Looked like you needed to add the chainsaw attachment to your bike for that trail. So many downed trees.
Definitely!
hey great video again . was you using a 60mm stem in this video??
I think my stem is 35mm but your guess is as good as mine
You can complete the trail on your arse in POC shorts . And we all know On The Trail You Only Die Once 💀 another tee shirt right there Brian! Or how about Rest in Pieces trail side ! 😂😂😂maxed and out! !! Tree there!!! 4 now to use😁
Hahaha dig it!
i love Skeggs! I usually climb resolution, though...
Haha, next time!
Hey Brian have you tried the Oakley prizm glasses for trails ? If so what did you think?
Not yet!
“The moon is out” 😂😂😂
"The moon is out", ZING 😂
Haha 🌝
Nice job Bri 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽✅✅✅
Thanks Paul!
