A duet from heaven. Two most expressive and vocally brilliant countertenors of today. Both overwhelmingly gifted and vibrant acutely sensitive performers. Their chemistry is sensetional and makes this very old opera pulsating organic experience, not a trace of academic drudgery just artistry of highest caliber. Bravi!

Somehow, they still remain popular after all these centuries. I don't hear much about the others who also might be good but not in demand. Frankly I don't really know anything about them. By the way, my heritage is Austronesian but I love Italian opera💯👍🤓

This is so exactly conjuring the spirit of Baroque opera, when men took women's roles. Wonderful production and top quality, properly trained voices. Unforced and no screeching for notes out of reach. A real pleasure to hear.
Actually, men would take female roles only at Rome at the time, as the law there prohibited women from performing on stage. Elsewhere female roles were performed by women, while castrati singers had male roles. This particular production, however, casts men in female roles, too, as a tribute to the original premiere that took place in Rome in 1730. Rather, non-mainstream, even for Baroque :). And yes, mighty voices!

Очень интересным является вопрос общественных условий развития таких вот непревзойденных талантов, когда подобные исполнения были обычной вещью. Все-таки великая эпоха XVIII века.

Quando un meccanismo vocale e teatrale complesso , con tutto il lavoro che richiede, diventa apparentemente semplice, partecipato, ed acquisisce la malia del toccare le corde del cuore ecco tanto lavoro fiorire e scaldare il cuore dei fruitori.Qui il magico del teatro, del barocco, dell'altro.Da giorni per caso sono capitato in questa pagina che mi ha toccato l'anima. sento, risento, risento ancora. Fagioli meravigliosamente come da suo è maschile, e non per ruolo, Cenic vola, con le sue strordinarie piume. Voci divergenti, parte per il ruolo ma parte per impronta si sposano ( è il caso di dirlo anche se gli dei remano contro) in un intreccio mirabile, raro che solo una intensa intelligenza ed arte possono offrie.E volano alto, tanto quanto si appartengono nei calando fino al fiato ultimo. Questo vuol dire reciproco rispetto artistico e volontà di creare Arte. Trasudano amore.per il canto, per i personaggi che indossano. Tanto di cappello. E mestiere, tanto mestiere. Per quanto riguarda le considerazioni della signora Marina Cantele con Gutherz (perdonerà le imprecisioni ) a parte la palese non conoscenza del contesto culturale dimostrata, il peccato verte nel fatto che sdiano due uomini? siGNORA, PRENDA URGENTI PROVVEDIMENTI, la vedo male, malissimo.....

Кроме врожденного таланта, воплощенного в тембре, в самой способности исполнять такие партии можно лишь себе представить сколько вложено труда на репетициях, распевках, подготовке к концертам и спектаклям. А ко всему прочему - исполнители являются несомненно смелыми, нестандартными и небанальными личностями, могущими преодолевать шоры мещанской пустоты и глупых предрассудков, возрождая, пусть это не покажется слишком пафосным, шедевры из культурной сокровищницы человеческого гения. А посмотрите на их мимику, отражаемые на лицах эмоции, которым не мешает слой несколько гротескного, тем не менее очень органичного грима. Мастерство самого высокого пилотажа. Браво!!!
My favourite cd of 2012. I was absolutely stunned by the sheer beauty of it all. Forget the comments about the recitatives, the arias and music are brilliant. I mean it hardly ever stops to please. And what a cast of countertenors, and a great tenor Daniel Behle as well. This aria is so beautiful it brought me to tears, And how ell played and performed, dramatically. Diego Fasolis rules, he is by far the best conductor in Baroque music. This opera will be a perennial classic as it once was.

This duet is so extraordinary that I'm astonished that I've never heard it before. The singing and acting here are superb. It reminds me of Mozart's Ah perdona al primo affetto although Vinci's duet really does drag it out. Usually I get bored by the repetitions in baroque opera but the beauty in this makes me happy to stick around.
Da Capo Arias. Sing it through A and B and then go through A again to da Capo. Hence the "repetition". Mozart did the same thing, though some modern performances omit the repeated A which in my opinion is a sacrilege. There is a reason it is written this way. The second time through "A" they are meant to embellish it with improvised ornaments and such. So its not repeated note for note as it was in the beginning. These two are somewhat conservative in their embellishments but they work fine.

Johann Hasse's version of this opera has also been revived and Franco Fagioli sings the same role as he does in Vinci's version.Interesting to compare the two though Hasse's style is more galant than baroque.I have both DVDs.

Así es Alanis, el gran Alfredo Kraus dejó muy claro que, a pesar de los deseos de un cantante, es la voz la que impone sus límites, ya que los distintos estilos de ópera fueron compuestos según diversos estilos de voces. Por algo, la ópera belcantista demanda voces "líricas", el verismo: "dramáticas" y Wagner al "heldertenor". Él mismo dijo que si algo lamentaba es no haber podido encarnar a don José de "Carmen", ya que su cuerda no era la adecuada. Cualquier teatro hoy pagaría una fortuna por tener una voz como la de Kraus cantando "Carmen", "Tosca" y hasta "Otelo". Así estamos...

Johann Hasse's version of this opera has also been revived and Franco Fagioli sings the same role as he does in Vinci's version.Interesting to compare the two though Hasse's style is more galant than baroque.I have both DVDs.

Una lección de canto barroco y un modelo a seguir para unos cuantos que, subidos a la ola de los contratenores, se han lanzado a cantar ópera barroca sin tener la menor idea de estilo ni de forma, por ej. Plácido Domingo (Tamerlano) o Renee Fleming (Rodelinda). Alguien debería avisarles que Händel no puede cantarse como Verdi y mucho menos como Puccini. ¡Bravo Max y Franco!
Así es Alanis, el gran Alfredo Kraus dejó muy claro que, a pesar de los deseos de un cantante, es la voz la que impone sus límites, ya que los distintos estilos de ópera fueron compuestos según diversos estilos de voces. Por algo, la ópera belcantista demanda voces "líricas", el verismo: "dramáticas" y Wagner al "heldertenor". Él mismo dijo que si algo lamentaba es no haber podido encarnar a don José de "Carmen", ya que su cuerda no era la adecuada. Cualquier teatro hoy pagaría una fortuna por tener una voz como la de Kraus cantando "Carmen", "Tosca" y hasta "Otelo". Así estamos...
