Yes the sidekick is always the best kick 👍,but always most effective and quickest in side stance as your already there to fire it,plus if going for the knee better to put the stomp on it savate style,but it’s like any good kickboxer hands set up feet and the feet set up the hands,when your in close opens up grappling and elbows knees,

The savate style stomp is also what I miss here. (Chassé Bas)
Follow up with a quick dragons tail if your knee kick was strong enough
... if necessary. If you can walk away and he cannot come after you the mission is accomplished.
