I unapologetically and unironically love that Lineker/Thorne documentary. It’s honest, pure and sweet. I just wish there was a similar show with Maradona and Castro.

3 VHS videos in 1 TH-cam video. It's a compilation of a compilation. If this TH-cam video is ever included in a compilation I think my head will implode.
You can definitely tell those kids on the Michaela Strachan video were all from stage schools, by the way they persistently look at the camera with, 'happy smiles', in the vain hope some talent agent might see them and think they're more, 'special', that they already think they are.
They won't be smiling like that when they are invited onto the casting couch...yikes. Run for your lives! I cannot understand parents who push their kids into the theatre, it's full of predators.

Thank you as always Mr M, always enjoy these - for 80’s stars how about a video on impressionist Phil Cool? Or a video compilation on all those videos that were huge hits in the ‘80s and ‘90s but just died with the invention of the internet - videos like footballs greatest gaffes or those compilation videos of (largely American) car crashes? Video stores were full of them and they were essential stocking fillers for a short period.
I feel like the issue with Phil Cool is that his television appearances are just unremarkable, not bigoted or unpleasant, just a bit dated and naff. The other option is his live stuff, but that's actually fairly decent outside of being dated. It's more impressive seeing him do the different characters on stage without the editing or crap costumes and he has actual jokes in between the impressions that don't rely on pop culture references. There's a somewhat more recent interview I saw where he demonstrates one of his live bits and uses a tape recorder to play John Lennon and Paul McCartney harmonising with each other that's legitimately really well executed and creative. It's not really something that I would expect to be fodder for this channel because the worst of his stuff isn't remarkably bad by comparison to the rest of the comedians featured and the good bits demonstrate that he has actual craft behind his material beyond doing the same impressions that everyone else does. Even then, a lot of his ideas are more esoteric and surreal than you'd get from the other acts from the period and in his live shows the impressions are integrated into actual routines that would have been serviceable without them. It's like peering into an alternative universe where Lee Evans wasn't a complete hack.
Willie in this is a year younger than I am now. God I feel old, but at least I don't look 52 like Willie does, and I'm not so far gone than I put my shoes on before my trousers.
I see the Lineker/Thorne video was narrated by Tony Francis, who also narrated Vinny Jones’s ‘Soccer Hardmen’ video, also profiled by Stuart. Obviously Tony was the go-to guy for these early ‘90s, high end VHS releases.
What a great feel good video the Gary lineker and Willie thorn one Just remember when you're at your lowest ebb and you have a noose around your neck there you aren't Willie thorn
Great, thanks for this. Despite having a lifelong phobia of cockroaches, I actually felt sorry for the poor painted fekkers. And also, I nearly cried at the idea of a 9 year old child getting Michaela's video instead of a party, because she had no friends. Didn't think there was anything sadder than Willy Thorne gambling away his family, but there we go. In the great scheme of things, all events that have ever occurred were contained and decided in a chain of causality created the first instants of the big bang, time itself merely an illusion created by consciousness. We are all simultaneously living, unborn and long since expired. I think this video does a very good job of communicating this essential truth as an emotion, without necessarily getting into the details.
John McCririck disappearing at the end like some spectre in an M.R. James adaptation was peak film making.
