What a great win for Zvonareva! She did bring very best of her on the court and look so confident just like the old days. I haven't seen her play like this since her comeback. Her backhand was really destructive and her fighting spirits helped her turn defense into offense so many times. Hopefully, Zvonareva could keep playing like this and go deeper. And Pliskova didn't play like a former world number one to me. Maybe she should take a longer break cause she looks tired.
Zvonareva literally had to rebuild her form from 2 years off tour and she was very candid and humble at times accepted that some of the girls are physically much fresher and fitter than ever before.. nice to see her finally get a big win!!
I miss this Vera Zvonareva. I remember her early years she would be overcome by emotions during matches. Plagued by injuries through the years it makes me smile that you're still around at age of 34 hopefully win titles again :)
Warching Vera reminds of the golden era of Russian girls in 2000's. Remember WTA Rank in 2008-09 when there were like 6 Russians in top 20? Those good old days when real players PLAY!!!
Majority of 2008 the top 10 was the Williams sisters, Ivanovic, Jankovic, and the rest were Russian (Kuznetsova, Safina, Dementieva, Sharapova, Chakvetadze, and Zvonareva)
freshname Very often, the more you want to win a match, the more nervous you become and as a result can't play your best tennis. There's still a chance that Kiki Bertens can play in WTA Finals in Singapore if Simons Halep withdraws because of her back injury.
Matches like this make me wonder if the WTA of today would be able to compete at all in the mid 2000's. The depth and consistency from the top players like Zvonareva back then is lacking in the WTA of today and this performance from Vera shows just that.
It's ok that she lost because Kiki also lost.. hahahaha.. at this point I guess All the top players are tired it injured due to a year long tour. . Still she qualified for the WTA finals.. congratulations pliskova
Ok who is this player and what have you done with that pile of emotional chaos sprinkled with tears that WAS Zvonareva....Not the biggest of fans but i like what I'm seeing!!
@@dany666 It's because whoever has very long legs and a high centre of gravity has a great difficulty in reaching low balls and running a lot, but there are exceptions, like Medvedev among men, who runs a lot.
@@dany666 Yes, laziness can happen too and it can be understandable. I used to struggle a lot reaching dropshots and was losing much energy. At a certain point you don't even try because you wanna focus on what you do best. This probably what Pliskova thinks.
I’m not sure if she ever official “retired”. She struggled with injuries between 2012-2014, played for a bit into 2015 and then stopped. Had a baby in 2016 and came back last spring. She’s had a decent year, but not consistent by her former standards. Qualified for Wimbledon and US Open, and was close to breaking inside the top 100 but she couldn’t defend some points and the ranking went down to around 160. This should really give her a nice boost. She still has a lot left in her, I think.
Great match Vera!
omg a great come back after so many years
Nice to see Vera still playing. Good luck!

Zvonareva was like the original halep but better

Wohhhh I felt like I was watching any old match of zvonareva. A champion is back
And also you can not forget Zvonareva-Ivanovic match in Indian Wells 2009 or AO2009 Semifinal 😍
That Indian Wells match with the wind was so crazy. I've been looking for that match and I haven't been able to find it on TH-cam
ВЕРОЧКА👏👏👏

Glad to see she comeback
Wow congratulations vera very miss u on top 10 again
Woah! Vera. Just like the old days. Keep on winning!
Yay! So happy for Vera and her best win in 7 years!!!
Vera, your attitude (Charlston final 09) gamestyle and consistency has been missed dearly. Welcome back!!
Ohh Vera I miss you so much welcome back to your games

Miss that 2008-09 years 😢
She snuck in when Chakvetadze slipped out of the top 10
Pliskobot was on idle mode this game 😂😂
guess who's back :) great to see Vera in form like this!
Great win Vera, Congrats! Never a fan of her but happy she won!
Hopefully she stays healthy enough to play more tournaments next season. Never get tired of her game
Vera, my cry baby! Great to see her back! First top ten win in 7 years tho....talk about a 7 year itch🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾✊well done Zvono!
Perfect come back for Vera in her country itself
Zvenoreva showed us how to play
Where were you?!
name the laziest player in WTA today: #1: Karolina Pliskova...no effort to retrieve the ball whatsoever. Just want a clear shot to exert her power.
yes i do agree
She deserves it although i like pliskova! I miss Zvera so much! Great win!
I need Vera back at the top! Congrats Vera!
Even though I understand the fatigue I was still expecting the decency to try. At least she really needed this win to qualify for YEC.
Qiu ZH I guess she qualified already since Kiki Bertens lost.
Bertens lost AFTER that match. That's why it's so weird.

we all know today's WTA wouldn't hold a candle to the early 00s, it was called the golden era of women's tennis for a reason

no question. shes a former number 2.
pliskova, just like stephens, lost early on purpose so they can just go fly to the WTA finals. it's so obvious

did pliskova even ran in this match? lol
ive noticed tall players give up on points more easily....i think especially dropshots

yaaas vera
It’s not that pliskova played bad more like Zvonareva played better not much she could do really
"Bull".....WHAT @ 5:15
Seems as if Pliskova wasn't bothered.
Pliskova clearly threw this one, didn't try to run or hit good shots.
What happened to Vera? Just checked , her current ranking is 161. She was world #2 in 2010 already.
Tayeba, Thanks for letting me know.
she came to the us open final several years ago
Keith Lee , she retire , had baby, and return to tennis.

Nice win for Vera (the scholar). I'm really surprised that she's still playing. Amazing fortitude and determination. Congrats!!
WTA video highlights are great! But in every single one them the commentary is too loud!
👍👍👍
Pliskova is exhausted. She’s played loads of tennis in the last month.
Why is Pliskova playing? The prize money is only $932 000.
You ever heard of WTA finals?
