    I never really thought about this at the time but the "neighbors" could represents the two potential futures of the husband. One is where the child is born and the family lives with the child in the apartment. And the other is the apartment that is never rented out a symbol that the relationship between the husband and wife could never work and that living together and making a life together for the future was impossible.

    So is the whole game happening inside the protagonist head after the hypnosis room with his dad? There is no time loop chananigans, it's just a illusion in his head trying to cope with the traumas and imagining a world that, if he killed the disapproving father he could stay together with her. What he says "I wish I could go back and take it back", it is not about the murder he never committed, is about accepting the hypnosis.
    The pos credit scene shows him moving to the apartment but all alone. The game is him imagining a world where he could be happy, but not even his mind allows it. Damn.

      @@AYAYA_JUICER You are seeing this in a linear form. They made this story for a game format because you can only solve the real last puzzle when you see all the endings. Which is to remember the real story through the pieces from the fake story he made to himself.
      Why would they leave the explanation for the time loops out?
      "We wrote time loop because it would be cool."
      If your version is right, the game lose the structure it barely has. That's why the loop doesn't end even in the happy "ending".

      Hello dear sir I watched the game, saw your comment yet still didn’t get the whole picture. So the cop is actually the father of both the husband and the wife, and he hypnotized the husband(his son) to let the husband find the truth in order to let him leave the wife(his daughter) willingly?

    • @tomcoolman9422

      So what did I do wrong?? I keep messing up, I always die when the cop comes in, he kills me every freaking time! I kill my wife, washed the blood from the knife, kept the knife, threw the knife into the toilet and flushed it one other time! Tried to kill the cop a dozen time with the knife coming from the closet! Dont matter where you try to hide, bathroom, bed room or closet he always found me! Except at every beginning of the loop you take the knife and hide quickly in the closet when your wife comes out of the bathroom! I found the phone of my wife called several times 911! The cop kills my wife because of the watch doesn't matter if I intervene, than he punches me and time loop starts again! I played almost 2 to 3 hours and seriously no freaking achievement I got except for watering the plant achievement this one I got! It doesn't matter if the cop walks in and cuffs your wife than you! If you say something twice he strangles you to death! If you are cuffed and your wife are cuffed and you try the knife to free yourself, he kills you or strangles you again Even when I hid in the closet and watched how the cop beat my wife and got the answer where the watch of here dad is hidden he still shoots my wife and kills her! When I tell the cop that I have the watch or tell him where the watch is, that bastard stil strangles me, oh yeah time loop again and again! I stabbed the cop dozen times but always I get the knock out punch and here we go again and again with the time loop! I injured him with the kitchen knife once coming out of the closet, than he pulled a gun on me and shoot me to death! So now I want to know what this video does differently by watching it! Great voice actors in this game, loved it

    • @Smartem_
      @Smartem_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @@clurpslurp As i pieced it myself - the actual present time characters actually live in - is in the "past", when dad is interrogating the main character. And the only real choice you are making is either to stay with your sister or to dissapear and let her be. All those scenarios in the flat meanwhile are the plot of protagonist's imagination. He is imagining what their life will be like if he chooses to stay with her and how the consequences of his decision will return at them both in the future, and if you choose to stay with her, dad indeed dies and some of those routes can actually happen.
      And when he is alone in empty flat is the "future present" if you choose to leave her be. Just loneliness and emptyness.
      I might be wrong or maybe this game doesn`t have a definitive ending and leaves it to the player's imagination, but either way the story is very sad, main character was born in the wrong family, fell in love with the wrong woman and saddest thing he isn't responsible for either of those things and is just a victim of a situation, cursed with bad ending no matter what he chooses.
      Also I think this game gives player a question: what will you choose, to live a happy but short life, or long but sad life.
      Anyway, im gonna load up some Warzone

      @@Smartem_ I think you're right about everything except about the game not having a definitive ending. I agree the only real thing going on is the office scene, where the character apparently has only two options: stay with his sister, which he imagines in the events that make up the bulk of the game, or leave her, which he imagines in the Alone ending. But the hidden third choice is to forget her altogether, in the Continue and Mindfulness endings. The only difference between them is that the Mindfulness ending has the line "You do have a remarkable imagination. The stories you've created. But believing them so deeply, so strongly, is unhealthy... It's time for you to wake up." This is the key to the proper interpretation- and this ending also has no continue button. I think this is the true ending, and in it, the protagonist wakes up with no memory, and no obsession, because "It's only by forgetting that we ever really drop the thread of time, and approach the experience of living in the present moment." So _perhaps_ the game doesn't need to be _quite_ so sad as those two options.

If the husband decides to accept his father's proposal to leave his sister, he enters a loop where the apartment is empty and he is alone. I've always had a fear of marrying a distant relative all thanks to a reckless person in my family who decided to have children with multiple people.

    • @iota-09
      @iota-09 3 ปีที่แล้ว +120

      i will be absolutely honest: i don't get that fear.
      here's the thing: i'm fully conscious about the health risks of incest, at least "full" incest(both same mother and father), but in the case of what is also presented in this game, that being half siblings, the risks are extremely lower, and without considering that, then the question remains: what's to be feared?
      society? after all at that point it's more a matter of surnames as the genetics involved are nowhere near strong enough i presume to invoke... well, anything really.
      it seems to me like it is something people fear and are disgusted by due purely to it being taboo, without actually thinking about the logical reasons to why it is something to be feared of... that, or i'm missing something that to most people is -apparently- just normalcy and common sense.

    • @4gasm
      @4gasm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      @@iota-09 I was hoping someone would question that, and I'll tell you exactly why I feel that way. I have 5 half siblings, and no they're not from just one parent. My mom and dad had me, then my mom had 3 more with another dude, my dad had another 1 with another chick, then my mom came in clutch and had ANOTHER child with ANOTHER dude.
      My reasons are solely based on that, and though I love my siblings, who's to say there isn't any more half siblings out there that I don't know about? But of course it isn't specifically a fear of marrying a sibling, no, it's more so a distant half cousin that I never knew existed.
      Because of a family member's reckless decision to go out and start smashing with a bunch of people and having a bunch of kids, my options for potential intimate relationships start to dwindle real fast because they're already considered "family". But that's just me.

    • @iota-09
      @iota-09 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@4gasm yeah i don't get that either tbh.
      might be because i only have a brother and while i have huge family on both sides of my parents, i've never been close to anybody in particular, and in the case of my father's side family, aside from the fact that our surname isn't common, i could have a cousin in virtually any country in the world for all i know, adding to it how my father now lives with another family whose girlfriend and son i have never even seen and feel absolutely nothing for and... yeah i don't really get it, like if i my father made a daughter with this new girl and 25 years from now i met her, if i knew she was my half-sister i'd just be "oh you're his daughter? so you know him? cool."
      and that's it, i don't see how or why i'd have to feel any attachment(or detachment) to that individual due to them being a relative i had no knowledge of.

    EXPLANATION
    (My personal interpretation of course)
    I think it's actually easier than it seems, and the credits appearing only in the endings in the room with the father are the key.
    "Hey, you're back! I know this is a terrible shock,"
    This quotes resumes the game. I'll break it down in two pieces.
    - "...I know this is a terrible shock,"
    The father tells the son the truth, that he had an affair with the nanny. He tells him about this because things start to getting out of control since the son/protagonist/husband is in love with his half sister. So after hearing this, the son enters in shock and denial. This is a LOT to take for him, so he enters in a state of mind where for a moment, he starts to see this perfect future with her he was wishing. The game start here, while he's in shock imagining his life living with her, about to have a child and stuff. So all of this scenes are product of his imagination, produced by this shock. I can't say this enough, he's in shock. So his dream starts crumble with reality catching up. His mind starts to mix this perfect future with the new information, with the new reality. This perfect future starts to fall apart when reality, piece by piece, starts to interfere in this future he had in mind. It just doesn't work. It doesn't make him happy anymore. Or even worse, it makes them both unhappy, he and his wife/half sister. So every "ending" you get in his house, makes him repeat the loop because he's still in his head. He keeps imagining scenes and trying to find a way to make it work. But he has to coexist with the facts, and the first step is to tell her the truth, and he does that in his head and it obviously goes terribly. Once he does that, then he can move forward and talk to his father.
    The cop with the father's voice it's a symbol, just think about it: a cop WITH his father's voice, which is also a father who only listens to her wife and daughter, and looking for a watch the protagonist has in his house have to save his daughter.. DUUUUUUUUDE. And the killing, a way to go back in time and try to change things... it's clearly all a dream/imagination.
    - "Hey, you're back!..."
    Once you 'wake up', once you're back in the room and 'awake', you can say that you're back in the real world. So you keep listening to your father, and now you have to decide what to do with this. So i like to think that all of the three endings with credits (Alone, Continue, and Mindfulness) could be 'the real ending'. It's up to you what to do with this 'new reality'.

      Question: whats the difference between the continue ending and the mindfulness ending?
      or rather whats the meaning of the mindfullness ending? since the continue ending is to forget everything and have peace but wouldn’t it just literally take you to the beginning of the game? ‘cuz you couldn’t remember? so Im guessing the mindfulness ending is to…? accept reality and TRULY move on?

    (TL;DR - only the affair and the siblings' love is real. The game events are fabrications of the brother's mind, his rationale trying to see if a potential future of being in love with his sister is actually possible. Eventually he realizes this isn't the case, and agrees to leave her forever, or with the Continue ending, forget her forever.)
    My personal interpretation of the story is this:
    The dad's affair, the brother and sister, and their love I think are the only 'real' aspects of this story. Everything you do in the game except for the single daytime scene inside the bookshelf room is a complete fabrication of your own mind. (For clarity's sake: son = brother = husband, while daughter = sister = wife)
    Essentially, the brother fell in love with the sister and neither of them actually knew they were half-siblings. They met because of the nanny and their relationship grew from there. The father was taking notice of this, but he couldn't actually say anything because then he'd have to admit he had an affair with the nanny, while he still had a wife and a daughter. Eventually, he had to confront the son about it and tell him the truth, to which the son was obviously in extreme shock and denial. The father, no matter how hard he tried, could not convince the son that this relationship would eventually lead to ruin and despair. So he decided perhaps the best way to show him would be through his own mind. He put the son into a dream-like state, and through the son's immensely creative imagination he created the game world that we know to be Twelve Minutes.
    The events that happen in game are result of the brother's rationale while thinking about a potential future with the sister. He imagines this perfect, cookie cutter life where he has a boring day job, a quaint small apartment, and a loving relationship with his wife. But through this imagination he began to realize that things could not remain like this forever. The cop and his vendetta against the wife are manifestations of the son's current perception of his father. When he began dreaming of this fake scenario, the son felt that his father was simply an obstacle in the way of his love for the sister, which is represented by the cop's unrelenting pursuit of his revenge. It's also representative of the past eventually catching up to him, that it's only logical to think the truth would eventually come out, and when it did, his world would crumble before him.
    Every ending in the game makes sense under this context.
    - Groundhog ending is his initial naivety towards the situation, an illogical dream for the future, that everything could be ok if he could just continue running from his past (making the cop leave).
    - Listen ending is the realization that eventually, just by sharing memories of the past, they would both be confronted with the truth and their love would cease to be.
    - Coward ending is when he realizes that his selfish desire to keep up the facade could end up hurting the wife, which he couldn't even bear to think about.
    - Confessed is the final nail in the coffin for the son, the key factor that leads to him understanding that their love could never truly work in the end. The past is inescapable, even if you forget.
    - Alone is when he emerges from the hypnosis/dream, now fully aware of the futility in his desperation. He accepts that their love cannot be allowed to continue. He needs to leave her without another word, so that she might be spared the pain and suffering he now must endure forever, alone.
    - Continue isn't necessarily better or worse than Alone, in the sense that some people might not want to forget something so significant, or perhaps that his love shouldn't be forgotten even if he has to leave her. On the other hand, leaving her and forgetting all about her is the most painless and peaceful resolution to the game. The son will live his life to the fullest, maybe finding another love, never realizing he had one to begin with. And the daughter will simply have suffered a heartbreak, and nothing more. She'll move on with her life, blissfully unaware of the painful truth behind their separation.
    The only somewhat confusing aspect of the game for me is Bumblebee, even though I have a potential theory as to what her purpose is in the dreams. I think that since the cop is a representation of his father, and the obstacle he presents, then Bumblebee is a representation of the father's love for the daughter. He cares about her more than anything in both the real world and the dream world the son had imagined.

      I think you've hit the nail on the head, but you left out the Mindfulness ending, which I think is the true ending. It maybe makes the argument that the forgetting isn't necessarily as bad as you say. After all, "it is only by forgetting that we ever really drop the thread of time and approach the experience of living in the present moment." The implication of the final words of this ending seems to be that the protagonist will wake up without his obsession and be able to truly let go, unlike when he forces himself to give her up in the Alone ending, which leads him directly back to the imaginary time loop.

    • @SteelSpurs

    • @GlaurungTheGreat
      @GlaurungTheGreat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +140

      Although the one thing I would disagree with is that the main game is the result of the father putting him into a dream state intentionally. When the protagonist uses the stopwatch, the first thing the father says to him is "Hey, you're back! I know this is a terrible shock," which would imply to me that he had _just_ told him the news, and that when he did the protagonist passed out/retreated into an imaginary world of his own accord. Also, in the Alone ending, the protagonist seems to retreat into a similar imaginary world without any intervention by the father.

    A husband returns to his apartment after work and is greeted by his wife, who surprises him with the news that she is pregnant. As they start to celebrate, a man claiming to be a cop knocks on their door and accuses the wife of murder. The cop attacks them, binds their hands, and proceeds to strangle the husband to death.
    The husband suddenly finds himself back when he entered the apartment, up to ten minutes prior, and realizes he is trapped in a time loop. He tries to convince his wife of the loop, but she remains doubtful. The husband spends one loop hiding to see how the cop interacts with the wife alone, and discovers he was looking for an expensive pocket watch that previously belonged to her father. The husband manages to figure out that the cop wants the watch to fund his daughter's cancer treatment. In another loop, the husband gets the watch and asks his wife about it. She reveals that her father did not actually die of a heart attack eight years ago, but she had killed him after he had an affair with her nanny. The affair drove her mother away and into a deep depression. The wife then fled that night with the watch, where she met her husband-to-be at a bar on New Year's Eve.
    The cop is later revealed to be a friend of her father who is accusing the wife for her father's murder. The husband further investigates and manages to prove that his wife wasn't the killer; he approaches the cop peacefully where the three deduce that the wife was mistaken, and the father's true killer was her half-brother, who was born out of her father's affair. Even after successfully resolving the situation, the husband is still trapped in a loop.
    Agonized about still being stuck in the loop, the husband asks the cop about the nanny's name. He learns that the nanny was his mother, making him his wife's half-brother. The husband is forced to relive the truth: the father revealed to him that he and his wife are siblings and they should break off their love, but the husband refuses. After a brief scuffle, he accidentally shot the father and had to flee the scene. However, the loop refuses to close.
    Using the watch to reverse time, the husband returns to reality, where he is still talking with his father about falling in love with his sister; the time loops are revealed to be the husband imagining a positive future with his wife and the cop is a manifestation of his father's interference. If the husband decides to accept his father's proposal to leave his sister, he enters a loop where the apartment is empty and he is alone. If the husband refuses the proposal, the scuffle repeats and he accidentally breaks his father's neck, and the loops continue to repeat. If the husband recites a book that the wife was reading during the loops, the father offers to hypnotize him to forget his sister, causing the loops to reset and begin anew. Finally, if the husband stares at the clock before he is hypnotized, the father tells him to end his imaginary future, ending all the time loops once and for all.

      the voice changes at the end, so i think he was actually speaking with a therapist about the argument with his father in the Alone ending, after he spent days at a time cooking up wild stories about a time loop involving his unwittingly incestuous relationship. the therapist compliments his creativity but gently lets him know that he can't live like that. he silently agrees, staring vacantly at the clock on the wall, and his imaginary world fades away.

    Game is not bad overall, when i played my first few hours in this game, i rly enjoyed it, when you slowly but surely move through the plot and learn a lot of new details, but closer to the end (in my case, at least) i had to spend a lot of attempts to understand what exactly i need to do to move forward(i played without any prompts). At some point, the game actually started to get a little annoying when you again did the wrong thing and you were spinning in a time loop, so i could feel the protagonist when he was upset every time he went back in time. Anyways i reccomend to play game, who is a fan of time loop games like me.

      Id say the whole story the father being killed by the protagonist, the wife, the "cop" i.e. father, and the hypnosis is all fake. I believe the way this is revealed is with the ending speech in the mindfulness ending. I believe the father is infact the protagonist's therapist and that this whole story is the protagonist venting to him about not only this whole story but that he was in love with his sister (I do believe that the plot with his wife being his sister is only partially legit because in that final text it talks of his love for her and how he needs to let go and that its unhealthy, so I think its a one sided love that he is trying to seek help for.) So as one of the others has said it is the therapists trying to tell the protagonist to come to terms with it and let this love go for it will only cause him more pain.
      Also someone else thought of a different interesting interpretation where instead it is him trying to seek help for his love for his sister he is actually seeking help for copping with his wife's suicide which can also be a possibility, basically there is a legit story inside of the whole game it is just hidden behind the madness and you the player are the one to decide which pieces are real and which ones are from the protagonist head.
      Finally it is basically like those books where the narrator is not a person that you can trust and is able to lie to you throughout the book.

    Personally I think there may be a little more to the mindfulness ending than it just being him forcing himself to forget everything, since he already does that in the Continue ending. I believe that in fact even that part of the ending is just in his head aswell and that all of it; the father, sister, baby, the whole scenario; is in his head and that his "father" is in fact his therapist trying to get him to come out of that fantasy. For example, the "father" says, "you do have a remarkable imagination, the stories you've created." so this would imply that the main character told him about this whole game and its scenario of a cop coming to kill him and his "wife" which I would feel is a very weird thing to tell your father when he is confronting you about your relationship with your sister (jesus thats gross) but when you put it into the context of him confiding to a therapist about his feelings for his sister and the ways he copes with it than it starts to make more sense. Also I find it strange that his father is just knows how to conduct hypnotherapy and helps his son forget everything, while it being either just the protagonist brain coming up with more stories than that makes more sense.
    Lastly, which I feel is one of the strongest pieces of evidence would be when the "father" says, "But believing them so strongly, so deeply is unhealty. You have to let her go. You can't keep obsessing over her." These lines not only make more sense from a therapist standpoint but also reveal that his "relationship" with his sister might in fact not be real and is only a one sided obsession that he is trying to seek help for. I love this game and its endings, they all give their own pieces to the story and hell the two "real" endings could be twisted and turned into all sorts of different conclusions.

It's a reason why they absolutely can't be together that's completely out of his hands, so he's forced to let her go. But anyways, I've now realized that I actually saw a few of those endings while randomly going through the game, before the one where we speak to the father. I had no idea this was so deep. Same! The first parts of the game were really enjoyable because the player found out new plot with every reset, but near the end it was more "sequnce these actions to get this and that". So yeah I also ended up looking for some hints in TH-cam (In this channels walkthrough video) and then I came to this videos comment section and my mind was just blown by the story. Although I believe the end of the game could have been better than just some sequencing puzzles, I know how hard it was to implement the story into the game towards the end so I don't blame them and I really enjoyed it overall (despite not finishing the game fully, I stopped playing after the Alone ending and came to TH-cam).
      With that said I think the best way to enjoy the game is to play until you can't solve the puzzles (which is around the Alone ending) and then going for a walkthrough video and then reading the comment section of this video.

    To act as the groundhog is to feel the guilt, to know your pretending will not last.
    To "confess" is to believe that you can lie your way through your life.

      I didnt know i could open the present without sitting down and getting it givin to me. Tried dragging it to the player, combining it with a knife both of which didnt work. Then figured out you can just tap it to use it. Wow
      And after that i already knew about the nannys relation so spent like 2 hours stuck on how to tell the wife we're probabaly having a joffrey lannister.

      The only ending where you need to look at the watch is the secret endings where the room is all empty. Unless you did what Penguinz0 did and accidenrtly stumbled upon the secret ending.

    If I made an ending for this game it would end like this:
    The father gets the pocketwatch back & turns the dial back to the day his daughter introduces her fiancé to him. He recognises him at once & confesses everything, he insists that they must end the relationship for their own sakes, but by all means stay in touch as the brother & sister they ought to be. Of course both adult children are shocked to hear this but they do take the father's advice, thus preventing the incestuous pregnancy from occuring.

    Now, that I suffered more than 6 hours in this game, I can finally say I hated it. I hated that game pretends to be non linear while it is so linear that if you do something the game doesn't want you to do, it punishes you immediately, and you have to restart. I hated that the game is breaking its own rules constantly, with the damaged light switch for example. I mean by this that the cop always check the bedroom looking for you, but not when he already cuffed your wife. He just finds you instantly in the closet. I hated that for every problem in the game, there is only one solution, while logically there should be multiple. I hated the ton of logical mistakes (the cop guy kills you almost every time without any reason basically). He even kills you after your wife is proven to be innocent, if you want to talk to him! I hated that I had to restart over and over and over and over again just to do exact same things I did before. I hated that all this happened just to experience a 5/10 story. I hated that the "real" ending is the worst and the most depressing one (alone). There are very few things that I didn't hate in this game, really.

      @@shadeis9276 The “nothing was ever real” kind of plot is really weak and
      clichéd. Literally everything that happened in the game doesn't matter because it wasn't real. They could've gone with just the murder mystery plot and it would've been more interesting and more satisfying endings

      @@Falahh25 A person named queb commented their lengthy interpretation of the story's plot on this video and I think they got it almost spot on. I suggest you take a look at it because I don't think it's JUST 'nothing is ever real so it doesnt matter anyway'. The half-siblings love for each other and the father's disapproval of their love is real, and since the brother's love for the sister was too strong, he cannot let it go and he tried to cope by creating scenarios of a life with the sister in his head which is shown in the game. All of the characters and endings in the game was a metaphor of the brother's perception to the whole situation like the cop being his disapproving father. I like the game because the story is not as straightforward as like this person wants to kill this person because this person wants to avenge this person. After finishing the game, I felt like I missed something and I came looking for explanations and to my surprise the story was much deeper than just a cop kills girl for watch and money OR it was just a hypnosis in the brother's head. The game was trying to take the psychological thriller route for the story and I think they convey that really well.

      I mean if they could somehow speed up the things you already did so you're not doing the same time over and over again, otherwise I would just be annoyed by the game.
      For something similar though, check out Outer Wilds. It's exactly the same only it's an entire solar system, not just a city. A tiny solar system but still a system with planets and a sun that you have to visit and figure out the mystery while the sun goes supernova over and over again and resets everything.
