Thanks so much miss YUYU reaally appreciate this tutorial especially the time when I'm about to do a jump attack So thank you again & wish you a great success in your life&career😊🤗🌹🌺🙏
I don't normally use a arcade stick to play, usually a controller, but I often have trouble doing left or right inputs because I keep accidentally doing jumps. Seeing her hand movements during this tutorial helps me alot on how a good player should use the stick.
I used to accidentally jump all the time (Still do in some 2D fighters, lol), and I found that using the D-pad instead of the analog stick made it much easier to be precise with movements and other inputs.
Also, a good player doesn't need to use a stick! Most competitive FG players are seen using arcade sticks because that's what they grew up with, the games on arcade cabinets. If a PS4/Xbox controller, or even a keyboard feels the most comfortable for you, that's the one that you'll be good at the game with
The only reason I'm even remotely good at tekken now is due to having so few games at any given time when I was younger. Tekken 5 DR for psp was basically my best friend in high school.
Yeah, unless you're some sort of genius, you need to put a lot of time to be great at Tekken. These days I play mostly off muscle memory. I pretty much suck at Tekken now.
this is by far THE most helpful guide ive ever seen, its so perfect, she does an AMAZING job really showing you how to perform moves, and WHY and WHEN you should use them. noone else does this simply enough they complicate it too much for new players such as myself this on the other hard is brief and to the point while also giving you key tips to improve on, i will most certainly be memorizing a low and mid attack, im a steve player 2nd dan 9 wins, and i never remember exactly which input is my low or mid, i have my highs and high combos really really down, and ive gotten much better at the side steps, and double side steps with steve, i think once i get a low and mid combo starter memorized i will be in a MUCH better place in ranked. i have B rage arts, C agility, C defensive. i feel like i dont really see defensive or agility on anyone in ranked around 1st dan and mentor, and i from many videos i think that me focusing on movement and defensive wins will help me in the long run in ranked play.
I had always liked fighting games but never got into them. This video randomly popped up on my recommended a couple of years ago, and I fell in love with Xiaoyu. It's like watching art. Yuyu has been my favorite Ling Xiaoyu player ever since.
There is a difference between playing and trying to get good on your own, and having someone else tell you, what you can improve. You can see, especially online, many people that can only do their combo. When you start pressuring them with the moves that are meant for pressuring, they're suddenly useless, because it would require them, to successfully pull off a launcher, that they won't be able to do, because you always counter-hit them. They rely on grabs as an "anti-block" measure, because they don't know how to normally punish.
These are straight *BASICS* that every Tekken player starting out should use. Just because you can do combos and MAYBE tech King's throws doesn't mean you are good in this game. Practice defense more than offense and you'll win more.
You're not wrong on that. I stress defense because people need to know how to block strings and punish accordingly. If one were to just do offense only, they'd get their ass kicked more and more. Western players focus on offense more than defense. Playing with Koreans and Japanese exposed how bad we REALLY are and forced me to change up my playing style. By playing defense more and catching opening, i've been able to capitalize more on opening for pokes, grabs, and launchers. I'm not where I want to be but understanding the basics of defense on top of offensive basics really helped.
It's funny cause I've been playing tekken casually since tekken 3 back when I was 5 years old, but I know none of those technical words and terminologies and shit. I've been playing by instinct my whole life and its too late to come back. Still a very interesting video tho
Thanks for the video, Gerald. You obviously put hard work into it, and we all really appreciate your analyses and tutorials. If I'm ever in Seoul, I'll stop by.
Used to play this in arcades and i had no idea why i was winning xD i was just button smashing my way all throughout and it was never satisfying. Now that i know how to grind, i think i can play this game again hahahaha
“By calming inputting the moves, you will be fine.” *does a crazy ass combo* Iv havent played tekken since I was a little kid and I definitely will not be fine lmao
But look at what she's doing; she inputs every button once (no mashing) and at her own pace (which is fast ofc, but it doesn't have to be THAT fast at all!). Look at her face, she's calm, just casually inputting those buttons. The same principle counts for you and me; just 1 move (1,2 or something) and calmly input those. No pressing buttons repeatedly, no losing composure, just focus on the game and staay calm
Do note that in Asia, the terminology for the buttons is different than in the west. We simply number them rather than describe what they do. Core-A did go over this in his translation but it’s probably easy to miss. 1 = Left Punch = Square 2 = Right Punch = Triangle 3 = Left Kick = X 4 = Right Kick = Circle The notation helps for players to communicate better when they use different controllers, and among those who speak English, they will almost exclusively use the numeric notation.
That’s what people say after they get good or learn fundamentals , but let’s be real everyone picks up combos first to learn high damage . It is a rite of passage and what gets people into the character.
this was very informative, I've always just played tekken not knowing what i was doing and then watching others play it and seeing what they were doing but i never quite understood what they were doing, however this has given me a good understanding of how to play tekken now.

Thank you Gerald and Yuyu, and Maureen for translating~
Thanks for this video I was looking to get into Tekken and didn't know where to start really appreciate you guys!
Thanks! Really useful, I never saw Tekken so technically.
Inb4 all beginners start with learning xiaoyu.
back tekken 3 days, the ultimate noob characters are hwoarang just spamming x or eddie just mashing x and o.
Trust me. Xiaoyu is not a character for begginner.
For me the easiest character to use was yoshi with his left + a spam
@@homelander485 Asuka is my go-to girl. Easy to handle, good punishers and combos. She's reliable.
Oof I started a week ago and immediately picked xiaoyu. The chacter just beckoned me, man
Very useful, and lets be honest: that it was YUYU explaining it made me pay more attention lol

Nice choice for best friend
I sure thought so.
Sameeee
But mine was on Tekken 6 PSP
i have like 2000 wins each with 2 chars on bots :D

Tekken para iniciantes é assim:
Comandos básicos no analógico:
(para frente)
. um toque para frente, o personagem dá um passo para frente;
. dois toques para frente, o personagem faz um avanço rápido para frente;
. se estiver a uma distância de 3 pulos para trás, dando dois toques para frente, o personagem corre (e aplica o golpe ultimate tackle - monta no adversário para poder aplicar socos);
. se estiver a uma distância de 4 pulos ou mais para trás, dando dois toques para frente, o personagem corre e aplica um escorão (algumas pessoas dizem que é uma cabeçada);
. três toques para frente, em curta distância, é o equivalente a dar toques quando estiver longe do adversário;
.. apertar os dois socos ao mesmo tempo (seu personagem pula dando um soco com as duas mãos, mergulhando em cima do adversário);
.. apertando chute esquerdo, seu personagem solta e dá um chute médio;
. um toque para trás, seu personagem dá um passo para trás (e também defende);
. dois toques para trás, seu personagem faz um recuo rápido para trás (mas não defende - isto é, se der dois toques para trás, você fica sem defesa);
. um toque leve para cima, qualquer direção (diagonal cima trás, diagonal cima frente, ou somente cima) seu personagem pula (no caso pula para trás, para frente e para cima, respectivamente);
. um toque para cima (apenas cima, sem usar diagonais), e rapidamente deixando o analógico neutro, seu personagem faz esquiva lateral para o fundo da tela (independente de qual lado você esteja, ele sempre esquiva para o fundo);
. toque para baixo defende (toque diagonal trás baixo também defende);
. toque diagonal baixo frente, no momento que o adversário der um golpe baixo, seu personagem faz um "low parry";
. segurando para baixo, (diagonal baixo trás ou diagonal baixo frente), seu personagem anda agachado para trás ou para frente;
. um toque para baixo e deixando o analógico neutro, seu personagem faz esquiva lateral em direção a tela (independente de que lado esteja);
-- Em todos os Tekken (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5dr, 6, 7, 3ds, etc. - com exceção dos tekken tag 1 e 2 e do street fighter x tekken), os botões são apenas 4:
. os de cima são socos e os debaixo são chutes;
. os do lado esquerdo são os membros esquerdo (ou seja, o botão esquerdo de cima é o soco esquerdo, e o botão esquerdo de baixo é o chute esquerdo);
. o mesmo para os botões direito, são os membros direito (soco direito) (chute direito);
(golpes)

Perfect practice makes perfect
we all know we can't git good just by watching, we need to play and suffer to git better. no pain no gain.
There is a difference between playing and trying to get good on your own,
and having someone else tell you, what you can improve.
You can see, especially online, many people that can only do their combo.
When you start pressuring them with the moves that are meant for pressuring,
they're suddenly useless, because it would require them, to successfully pull off a launcher, that they won't be able to do, because you always counter-hit them.
They rely on grabs as an "anti-block" measure, because they don't know how to normally punish.
Learning from pro player is faster to get grip on the basic than actually learning by yourself. Remember gym training with trainer will always best
No carpel tunnel, no gain
I got good just by watching, observation skills are important.
@@anonymousstout4759 Learning by myself was faster...much faster, something I found lacking in society back then and today's times.
These are straight *BASICS* that every Tekken player starting out should use. Just because you can do combos and MAYBE tech King's throws doesn't mean you are good in this game.
Practice defense more than offense and you'll win more.
How am I wrong?
You're not wrong on that.
I stress defense because people need to know how to block strings and punish accordingly. If one were to just do offense only, they'd get their ass kicked more and more. Western players focus on offense more than defense. Playing with Koreans and Japanese exposed how bad we REALLY are and forced me to change up my playing style. By playing defense more and catching opening, i've been able to capitalize more on opening for pokes, grabs, and launchers.
I'm not where I want to be but understanding the basics of defense on top of offensive basics really helped.
@TalonXI FG if mew2king plays this game he for sure will learn those frames
You will get bodied trying to be defensive. Unless you know the opponents moveset well it's best to be as offensive and unmerciful as possible.
It's funny cause I've been playing tekken casually since tekken 3 back when I was 5 years old, but I know none of those technical words and terminologies and shit. I've been playing by instinct my whole life and its too late to come back. Still a very interesting video tho

I just started playing tekken7 a couple days ago,and she did the best beginner guide that I have ever seen.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Everytime i play tekken i always pause the game and remember some combo, but end up forgetting them.
welp..haha gotta practice more man..btw im just a noob
That happens to me when I play street fighter
Keep practicing and it'll be in your muscle memory
go on practice mode and keep doing combos till it feels like breathing for you.
“By calming inputting the moves, you will be fine.” *does a crazy ass combo*
Iv havent played tekken since I was a little kid and I definitely will not be fine lmao
Also, practice practice practice! That's the only way to master your combos, or to be better at the game in general.
she's a real life kazumi

@@SyenPie "I'm an adult virgin."
Good lord the learning curve
Do note that in Asia, the terminology for the buttons is different than in the west. We simply number them rather than describe what they do. Core-A did go over this in his translation but it’s probably easy to miss.
1 = Left Punch = Square
2 = Right Punch = Triangle
3 = Left Kick = X
4 = Right Kick = Circle
The notation helps for players to communicate better when they use different controllers, and among those who speak English, they will almost exclusively use the numeric notation.

imo punishing should be earlier than combos
That combo ain't starting till you launch em.
gotta have a combo ready TO PUNISH. what good is punishing, if all you can do is land stray hits.
Not everything is launch punishable
NephiL I think trying to learn combos is something most people naturally gravitate towards. Since that's the flashy part about tekken
That’s what people say after they get good or learn fundamentals , but let’s be real everyone picks up combos first to learn high damage . It is a rite of passage and what gets people into the character.
