    Ya472, Nice work! I like to figure out what’s wrong with broke stuff also. Even if I don’t end up getting it fixed making some little thing that might help …haha. Did your fix keep it working and running so you could build that other thing with it?
    I know it’s been a few years and our memories are not what they used to be but I had to ask something. I have a peerless transmission on my old Lawn tractor given to me with a blown 18hp B&S engine I had to rebuild and yes it’s still running strong. Anyway, the differentialportion of my transmission is different than yours but the Hydrostatic pump seperate section appears the same as mine. My question is, what fluids (if different) did you use for the Differential gearbox and what type for the Pump itself? And, did you install a drain plug and refill plug on them?
    Hope all is well with you and yours! Thanks

      Thank you for the comments. I love my little 4 wheel steering Craftsman lawn tractor. I had the issue with the 2 cylinder engine not cranking over to start, and was informed a valve adjustment might be due. So I did, and the engine now starts well and purrs. I just used this tractor to pull my new 44" Agri-fab lawn sweeper over 2 acres. It was fun at nearly full speed. As far as oil, I believe the differential and pump use the same oil, so I just used some #42 viscosity hydraulic oil, same as I use in my Kubota BX25. Basically any oil will work, as long as it is correct weight (viscosity). In the front axle (4x4 differential) of the Kubota BX25, one can either use hydraulic oil, or 80 - 90# gear oil. Some people prefer the heavy oil because it is less likely to leak through the seals. (so they say)

      @@ya472 Glad you’re still having fun with it and it’s working well. 4 wheel on it has got to be fun!
      You didn’t say if you put fill and drain plugs in it when you had it apart? Thanks

      @@MRrwmac It has been a few years. I can barely remember what I did last week. I doubt I went to that trouble, or perhaps it wasn't necessary? Can't remember, that is why I didn't have an answer, sorry.

    I have a Murray Tractor with the same type of Transaxle. My pulley is just free spinning as well. Was going to scrap the tractor but after watching your video, maybe I'll tear it down & see if i can fix it.

      If you might scrap it, and you have time, I love to tear things apart to see what went wrong. Good luck. Fixing a simple issue is very satisfying.

      @@ya472 After tearing the transaxle down & inspecting there was no obvious damage to the hydrostatic pump and motor assembly. My best guess is either the pump or motor failed. need a new transaxle, or just the the removable pump & motor housing assembly.

    • @ya472
      @ya472  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidpettengill914 I am confused. If there is no obvious damage, what pump or motor failed? If the input shaft turns the pump, it has to work? It is possible there is some type of pressure relief valve, that could be stuck open, or a casting failure that would allow fluid bypass?

    • @ya472
      @ya472  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidpettengill914 On mine, the retaining clip was the problem, so the gear would not engage the pump, as the shaft moved up. Any further update on your machine? thx

    Did you clean off that rust and put some new rust resistant paint on

    • @ya472

      These c-clips are inside the case, bathed in oil. ???? I have never had one of these apart before, and I don't have a parts diagram, but the c-clip that came out was bent because it wasn't fitting right, so I assumed it did not belong. And I had to shop around, or look around the shop to find a clip that would do the job. :-)

    • @ya472
      @ya472  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am thinking that wavy spring is part of the reason my hydrostatic did not work, as it wasn't in the right place. 🙂 A shaft moved and disengaged a gear or spline, and prevented the drive from operating.

      Any hydraulic oil will work. I think I used #46 weight, and #32 would be fine. It has been years, since I did this. lol What kind of oil came out of it? Theoretically even engine oil, like 30 weight will work too. Good luck with your build.
