Of course the gain knob SHOULDN'T be all the way down. It should be in the spot where the signal is not clipping inside the software, but isn't too low either. That said, different pickup types (passive vs active) would give different signal from the guitar to the audio interface. Maybe your pickups are very loud and having the gain knob of the interface gives you the best result.
I used to turn the gain about halfway on the interface where the signal was still green and not clipping, but I’ve found turning it to zero gives me better results. Just a matter of preference. Thanks for watching!
