You need to leave spaces between the slats to avoid the friction. When building this, you need to use a piece of cardboard between them as placing the slats, that way when you move the cardboard they have room to slide without getting bound up. If it is this stiff just wait til you are living it it and it starts swelling.
Do you happen to know what year this Ford Transit van is? All I know is that it was a passenger van with the 148" wheelbase, high roof & the non-extended body.

You haven't left any gaps between slats,it won't work properly without.
