At the "Club" Turbo, I saw him in maybe a 30×30 feet space, the small venues always are the best.
It's criminal that he's more beloved in Europe than his native Canada. Like seriously, maybe 55 people at the gig I referred to above. There's still many of us in Canada, Toronto especially, that revere him as a God. And it's our little secret. As how do you recruit more people in to loving him as my mates and I are were DEEP into him. That fanaticism is hard to duplicate.

This set is still super magical and deserved the exposure not for some algorythmic reason, but because not many DJs have this kind of elecrifying composition. Every track is an unexpected turn. Tons of respect to Richie for being on the forefront of DJing since forever.

Richie, I miss you! Your private parties in Detroit and Windsor in the 90,s and early 00’s were parties for the ages..most of you will never know the incredible, surreal spaces with the most sublime music and amazing people back when. Richie is a true genius, listen really listen to layer upon layer of his compositions, they may sound simple to many, but it’s far far from it. There is a reason Richie Hawtin is legendary. Still sound and look amazing Richie xoxox
I miss those days too, the D was the place to be for top techno and minimal music. His set at Tomorrowland in 2015 tho might just be the best set I have ever heard, I can hear some of the similarities here in this amazing set.

Ben franklin Is he adding his own production sounds to the tracks? That's what some of the fills sounded like to me...
Sun W. Kim He's mixing multiple tracks at the same time, he's shown his set-up in numerous videos for Native Instruments. He usually uses four decks in Traktor software, so it allows him to play multiple tunes simultaneously which is why it sounds so much fuller than just listening to the individual minimal techno tracks by themselves.

Met Richie in Tokyo in 2001 at Liquid Room. He gave me a pre-release copy of Closer to the Edit and signed it, still a treasured possession. He was completely bald then! Saw him live several times - genius DJ.

People sitting in their computer chair hating on Richie. I can understand why you aren't immediately blown away by minimal electronic music, I wasn't either. Put this shit over a banging system and get your friends together and see if you don't feel different about it. Also, a healthy dose of acid will do you one better. Cheers!

For the best atmosphere you should check out the Boiler Room from Rodhad (the one from 2014).
This guy is one of the best DJs ever born. The atmosphere he creates in each set is crazy!

It's not about how he mixes it or what he plays, it's about enjoying the rhythm and getting lost in a different dimension. Instead of criticizing him, dance. Let loose. It's a completely different experience than staring at what he's doing.

Richie is on the techno/Minimal Mt. Rushmore for sure, with Robert Hood, Sven Vath and the 4th is a close call between about 10 or 12 top spinners. It really depends on what drugs you do before you listen. LOL

this was just an informative post so people catch the difference when they go to clubs. Given equal talent, live sets are ALWAYS better than dj sets.
@@TheGamblermusic He's playing tracks from other artists and adding sounds and effects. Thats what a DJ set is. A live set would be his own tracks, often straight from the software or synth it was made in.
