I've been watching and listening to Richie since Lost in the mid to late 90s. One of the few real DJs. He has a talent that others can only dream of and will never have or understand.
Exactly. Same here. My prefered album ever is Consumed by Plastikman. I discover minimal, techno, abstract art, repetive music, minimalism, and so much more with that album (+ psylosibin, THC, Caffeine and Alcohol). I was into my master in design at that period. So my mind opens up at the perfect moment. All because of that album. Consumed. Just the CD case was a piece of art (design) who inspired me than after, for years. When I listen to Consumed sometimes for fun... I still "don't understand" how he did it. It's sooooo special and appart. It's sublime (when you can describe your feeling because it's too much, or kind of...).
My first touch with Richie was his loop Album DE9 Closer to the Edit from 2001... so amazing... a vinyl with only loops on it. I had so much fun playing it and to make my own edit of it. And of course I enjoy listening to him every time he plays. Except one time he played here in Berlin at Strandbad Grünau. It was the time he and Ricardo used too much special K. Gosh... he constantly turned the music down until you could barely hear anything. That day me and my friends started calling him "Richie turn it down Hawtin", but only until the next gig where he played proper minimal techno again - which he more or less invented too - and it was awesome. And one shouldn't forget the awesome DJ Mixers he built. PLAYdifferently Model 1 and I think he helped also to develop the X:one 92 with the 4 EQ knobs.

First time listening to Richie Hawtin since I tuned out of his uninspiring minus phase like 10 years ago and it’s amazing and exciting to hear him coming back to proper techno with full force, like for real. Seems to me like he’s re-connecting with the place he came from and with his early motivations and influences as he’s getting older. It’s moving to witness such an artistic trajectory. Those who followed him closely might not agree with me but this is just my experience.
I completely agree, never liked his minimal/minus phase, ridiculously overhyped and uninteresting. Can't stand his DJ Hell hairstyle but love 14:00-16:00 👌
definitely not, Richie has a lot of cycles in his music, and the minimal phase or the tech house phase were not good at all, Mulero has been way more consistent producing-wise and djing, all that being way more prolific in the techno scene
@@BetinhoRoveda for my part all the times I saw him, more than 10 times it was crazy, Oscar Murelo is also very good and technical for many years but he mixes on vinyl and Richie on a controller or other machine which is not 'has nothing to do with style, they are two very good styles different from techno
I've had the pleasure seeing him playing several times. He's just so far beyond every techno hype over the last decades. This is the true master, the purest techno, always technically innovating and far ahead of anyone else. Unmatched!! Living legend
I was there... It was so good that some guy turned to me and said: this is the modern day Mozart/Beethoven. I recently saw him again in Neopop, and brought my gf who hates techno. She could not stop dancing for 1 moment and said she loved it. It's fucking IMPOSSIBLE to stay still. This guy is a fucking magician.
So this is the crazy thing about real techno, it can deform from very minimal about a decade ago to quite hard and heavy of todays Techno wave and still remain true. The true artist will ride these waves, Richie is a prime example.

That light show was intense and Rich was on point that night. Best set I’ve heard from him since he’s went back to playing at a higher BPM. The way the bottom end of the kick drum overlap makes that fast hard techno sound completely different when you hear it on a loud sound system compared to what it sounds like in a pair of headphones.

A sign that he s in top level is also, that he is active since nearly 30 years! I have been a Teenager as i first listen to him. Not my style but that does not minimise his top level.. Impressive light show here and what y huge crowd of people!
