      Ireland have been hamering scotland at this age grade in the u20 six nations for the last couple of years. Scotland tend to be technically ahead of their opponents but lack size. So when they've come up against wales and England their technical prowess has shone through(beating wales, coming close to beating england), but since france and ireland are not only bigger(Ireland have only produced bigger sides in the last two six nations) and their technical prowess is greater than scotlands. Scotlands only advantage at this level is gone, pretty much allowing both france and ireland to run riot.

    This a direct result of scouting for foreign mercenaries that might have had a great grandfather that met a Scotsman on a boat hundreds of years ago. The money would be better spent developing the academies and you Scottish born players. The damage this thrashing this has done will last a while. Not one of the Scottish under 20 will ever play test and that's a testament to the Scottish set-up.

    Scotland and Wales need to copy the Irish system ,which itself is very much like a copy of the NZ system

    • @jmo8934
      @jmo8934 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s not as easy as just copying a system. Multiple factors go into it and what works for one country may not suit another. As an example the Irish provinces have existed for hundreds of years and already have a defined identity in a sporting context through GAA which is far far bigger than rugby in Ireland. In Wales they just threw former bitter rivals together forming regions on the spot. It was never going to be the same. Then there is the financing, the private school setup, the ownership and control of the teams involving unions or private benefactors. Historical issues with certain groups having control in these countries and not wanting to relinquish it etc. Scotland and wales could of course take some pointers but they ultimates have to find what works for them.

    Rugby just isn't played enough in Scotland and its sadly elitist. This is the future. And a warning to Scotland. Ireland are capable and so should Scotland. Embarrassing beyond reason. Ireland have went from being mediocore for decades, to the the worlds best and it looks like its going to last for a long long long time. It all comes from young kids playing rugby. SRU and rugby needs to leave its private educated, elite mentality behind. Grow it in the west and north east where football is religion.

    • @jmo8934

      @@jmo8934 most but there is a pathway established for the clubs and state schools are getting better. Over the next couples years we'll see a shift tbh. Trust me as a lad who's played in one of the top irish schools there's been some serious improvement. I moved to Scotland however and their system is in tatters, players in state schools and clubs getting poached by the elite schools after u16s. Leaving these state schools and clubs with less players who then can't field a full 15. It happens everywhere, players going am hour to find a better club who can get consistent fixtures. Scotland underage representatives not getting game time despite the fact super six was developed for just that purpose. Its no wonder really.
