Man I love the beggars bazooka because I like luck and RNG, I think luck and RNG are the best game mechanics in the world. They must've been made for games or something.
my all time favorite screenshot is when i went to a server and tried learning airblast counters. but i just anihilated the huntsman snipers so hard they told me they understamd i am good and i should leave. still have it uploaded on steam. and will always be proud of that one because i just stomped the via luck, i was the lucksman hunter
If you DO want to get into some of the nuance, the arrows are more likely to literally latch to an opponents head if you are BELOW them when you take the shot. Literally intentionally taking low ground or even something as small as crouching before letting the arrow loose will increase your success rate at hitting headshots a good degree. Also, crossbow bolts move in the same arc and speed as huntsman arrows, so playing med is an AMAZING way to get better at huntsman shenanigans.
The more i use huntsman or lucksman, the more kills i usually get from sniper, because i found myself most of the time hitting bodyshots and when i use the lucksman, i just don't pray for the best, but pray that a pyro won't reflected it. Oh yea, you forgor to miss out the fact that if an "airblast pro" pyro knows what he is doing will be capable of killing your own arrows
Now I actually know how the huntsman projectile actually works, and it isn't luck based at all, but more like the hitbox is just huge in some scenarios. Hitboxes are something we are all familiar with, the boxes that make up the model of a player, if a hitscan bullet hits one of these boxes, it will register as a hit. Projectiles use Collision boxes, not hitboxes. Collision boxes are just 1 big box all around the player, that is the same size for all classes. If a projectile hits one of these collision boxes, they will count as a hit. Collision boxes are called "collision" because they are also used for the maps, and use collision boxes for when you collide with something, or some one. Each player has both of these on at the same time, and come in to play for whenever htiscan, or projectiles head their way. All the projectiles can't headshot, besides one. The Huntsman Arrows. It's a projectile, but it has to headshot. Remember Collision boxes are just 1 big box, if a projectile hits, it is a hit. To compensate, since they both are active at the same time, arrows use both htiboxes and collision boxes. If it hits a hitbox, it's a hit. Hits a head hitbox, it's a headshot, buuuut, if it hits a collision box, it will locate where on the collision it exactly hit, and it goes to the closest hitbox. So if it hits the side of the collision box, it locates the closest hitbox to where it landed and relocates to that hitbox. Since heads most of the time stick out from the body a lot, a lot of the collision box is more head hitboxes then anything. Basically, huntsman arrows just have a 2x bigger hitbox for enemies. It makes sense because well think, it's a projectile, so it has arc, no scope, takes time to hit your target, and hitscan doesn't have any of that jazz to deal with. Since scout has a pretty tiny, skinny body, he has small hitboxes, but since collision boxes are the same size for all classes, this makes scout have a HUGE area on where you can hit him with your arrows. Heavy is the largest of course, normally heavy is the easiest to hit because of his slow speeds and huge hitbox, but the collision box veritcally is about the same height as heavy, leaving a small area of heavies head hitbox left, unlike scout. In summary, nothing about it is luck based, just a big, big hitbox.
Valve : makes soldier demo and scout classes absolute funfests with overtuned stats, game changing mechanics and fun high mobility Valve giving the sniper one item that actually allows him to play the game differently : *stupid idiot sniper you're bad and should feel bad*
If the weapon wasn't broken it wouldn't be a problem but it is. Not the sniper player fault but the luckman is indeed total bullshit that needs a rework.
am i the only one who's never had luck with the lucksman? Like i nearly exclusively get body shots even when hitting them pretty much on the neck and dont even mention getting corner spam kills. Is it really just hyped or am i unlucky and bad?
lucksman is just a meme man. I've encountered a few very insane huntsman player, consistent headshots always top scoring. -And same here I suck at the huntsman and rarely get kills unless enemy just doesn't move. Truly unlucky.-
Thank you for reminding me that the TRUE Choppa animations exist, as I have now realized a way to make them work with my other animation mods. This video was truly life changing.
As someone currently maining sniper for no greater or more interesting reason than "My aim is shit so let's go trial by fire", the lucksman fills me with an unspeakable contempt.
Fun Fact: Random crits actually do not benefit worse players! In reality you have a higher chance of random critting if you are doing a lot better than everyone else. So the system is already benefitting the good players (valve moment).
There is also some strange quirks of that system iirc, such as Engie's sentry damage counting toward his own crit rate, or a Medic's healing being counted as damage dealt.
Lucksman enthusiast here. This video is a great meme and as a sniper main my class needs the roast. Real talk though, I feel like the huntsman is one of the most difficult usable primary weapons to do well with in tf2, especially on more open maps. I feel like the whole rng thing is definitely present, but rather confusing as soldier and demo have so much of the same luck when playing. I mean let’s be real, it’s impossible to always guess midair strafe patterns for air shots and I can’t even count how many times I’ve brainlessly shot at control points, gotten a random crit, and killed the entire team. The huntsman to me seems no different than rockets and pills, just harder to use imo. Still the lucksman without a doubt since I can’t even think of how many invisible spies I’ve killed, but also an incredibly fun, difficult, and rewarding weapon to master
Yeah, anyone can pull out the Huntsman and get some lucky kills. But you have to be doing something well to topscore without using the choppa. It's a crutch and you don't need it when you're using the best melee weapon in the game: The Huntsman
One time I came back to tf2 after a long time and hopped on a server, after a while I became bored and asked to anyone in the server which was the hardest playstyle/weapon to use. A guy answered "probably the huntsman", from.that day, I picked only sniper with bow and arrow and then...you pretty much summarized my experience with it :). Aside from peeking, I think it takes more skill to actually see advantages and opportunities, rather than taking advantage of said opportunities.
Literally the greatest summary of the huntsman. I used it against my friends the other night when I got auto balanced and pissed them off to kingdom come. I also just sent this video to them too.
The headshot hurtbox is stupid and it is easy to get accidental kills, but there's legitimately a lot of skill involved in learning your opponent's movement patterns and predicting where they'll end up. It's read, like in fighting games.
The DDS needs it's extra 25 health back. It's perfect for huntsman snipers, as it lets you be more aggressive. Plus, you can still instantly die to a single quickscope, as a quickscope headshot does 150. The only problem the DDS had was the bullet protection. Not the health.
Cleaner’s Carbine is also pretty good with this loadout. Like you said, it takes just one bullet after a body shot to dispatch a light class, so the slower firing speed isn’t that bad. Plus, the mini-crits can actually be pretty effective when you miss a headshot with the bow (somehow) or with the Bushwhacka.
It's uses the bounding box which is a big rectangle that's the same for every class to register hits. If it doesn't hit the class' hit box but hits only the bounding box it teleports itself to the nearest hitbox to where it hit on the bounding box. So effectively it screws over scout the most and heavy the least since scout covers very little of his while heavy takes up most of his
The flip side to that jank ass head hit box is sometimes you like up a headshot on an idle player that's guaranteed to hit and it somehow just bodyshots or misses instead
Just want to point out that Overwatch wasn't even in development yet when Valve released the Huntsman for TF2. Hard to say that the Huntsman was made in response to the popularity of Hanzo in Overwatch when Overwatch didn't even have gameplay elements released yet in 2009. Otherwise great video.
