Exactly what I was thinking when I saw last week that you can place a pre-order to be delivered on november 7th about anywhere. I haven't seen "sold out" anywhere. In the mean time, on e-bay, people still post "confirmed pre-orders" for sale at + 1000 (up to 1700) dollars. I hope those scalpers are now stuck with their PS5 Pro's and that they will have to put them second-hand for lower than sales price.
They will do whatever they can to not admit that no one wants to pay $700 unless you are a diehard Sony fan. I’m sorry the graphics on the PS5 Pro are not that much of a jump to pay $700 when the PS5’s graphics aren’t that noticeably different to me from the comparisons out so far. This is a money grab. Makes more sense to save your money and wait for the price to drop in about a year and a half when they’re still not selling enough or wait for the PS6

They specifically explained that the image on PS5 Pro is alot better coupled with 60fps framerate but does not translate to youtube videos as youtube is not a good container. Except for Alex, they all had a hands-on with the actual PS5 Pro, and are all impressed with the visual upgrades they have seen with their own eyes. The only gripe they have is with the pricing, which is weird as opposed to the PS4 Pro at launch, and the lack of a disc drive. I hope you have a chance to go back and watch their hands-on in multiple videos. I'm not going to buy it because of the pricing in Europe. I do not expect any price drop for the Pro in the next few years, as this console generation has not seen price drops, but price increases for the console, for the controllers, for the disc drive, ... The PS6 isn't expected before 2028 and might be even more expensive than the Pro. I understand you not willing to pay the price for it, as I'm also not willing to pay the price for it. Sadly, we will have to adjust to the new reality when it comes to console hardware: prices will never go back to down. It hasn't happened for smartphones, graphic cards, cpu's, ... in the last few years. And as the companies are making more profit now, they have no reason to change course. Only if consumers bundle together and stop buying products at these prices, then a change might happen. But again, it hasn't happened for other hardware, which shows that people are willing to go along with it.

Mass market model and enthusiast model do not have the same selling points or price points. PS6 will be cheaper like the PS5 base is. It was 400$ at launch and the pro is 700$. PS6 will be 550-600$ for the base model and max 800 for the pro 4 years later. Wanting an optional console to fail because you're afraid the base model will cost more in the future is weird behavior. Do expensive TV's make cheap TV's non-existent all of a sudden?

PS4 Pro only sold 13 Million units. It was only $400 at launch and was great value for people with a 4K TV. The PS5 Pro is the polar opposite. It should sell 5 Million units end of life.
@@cocacola3269 Xbox One X and PS4 Pro were both "Upscaling" to near 4k, starting around 1440p with Dynamic Resolution Scaling. Seems like the PS5 is your first console. We can tell. Ps5 can barely run Native PS5 720p games.
They are predicting the PS5 pro will sell 12-13 million by the end of the life cycle and I think there will. It’s a great value despite all the cry babies online. However, it SHOULD have a disc drive
Its also hard to put a number on it, but the camp consisting of people feeling like Sony just pissed them off just a bit too much with this whole launch has to be getting quite big. Grievances like no disc-drive or stand, ridiculously high pricepoint, lackluster demonstration of the point of all these features definately rub me the wrong way, and combined with other blunders in recent times, the premature PSVR2 abandonment for example, I just dont want to support this shit anymore. I've always looked the other way and just got the newest coolest thing, but I'm not happy with what they are doing here, and while the system looks neat and "I want it", I'm sticking with my principles on this one, and I have a feeling I'm far from alone. However, is this group of people even remotely big enough for Sony to financially even feel the slightest tickle..?
I don't think my principles will be the deciding factor on this, but they definitely factor in. Thing is I can go with my principles but they will sell the Pro's regardless of my stance and people will get their Pro's. The only result of that decision will be me not having a Pro. If it can make a difference, take a stance, but if not I only think we make our own life more sour, meanwhile the world moves as it does regardless. Not really a good strategy for your own sake. You could say "but someone has to do it, or no one does", but the thing is I don't think enough people will take that stance, people look out for themselves and in this case they will do what benefits them, I don't think anything's changing that, so you might as well do the same. So for me it depends on whether the Pro is a good thing, and ultimately that will be the deciding factor I think. People say "you're poor" etc. Money is not the issue, I can easily afford and that's even before selling my base PS5. My thing is I need to know is the Pro actually worth it, as an upgrade. They can say "well we already know what it is, they've told us", I'm sorry but what did I miss, we are trusting marketing now? I need hands-on impressions from trustworthy sources, and it needs to be 100% yes it's a lot better, not it's a bit better or "it depends". Too vague for me. So far I'm not sold.
Well if over 20k PS5 Pro Pre order units sold alone already on Amazon. That's over 14 Million dollars in sales already at just (one location). You still have walmart, bestbuy, gamestop, ps direct.
I’m cancelling my pre order because, well, I just don’t ‘need’ it. Plus, I want a new fancy sofa so I feel a little stupid spending £700 on a console that I don’t need right now. It’ll be available next year if and when I need it then.
I distinctly remember both the PS2 and N64 selling out everywhere in North America when they launched. They were very difficult to get until well after the holiday season as well.
The Pro consoles aren't meant for everyone, they never were, they are just there to keep players that care about resolution enough from jumping to PC I feel. The PS4 Pro sales accounted for like 12%-20% max of global PS4 sales according to different sources. Sony knew pricing it high would mean ever lower sales than that this, but they also knew from the whole PS5 scalper years, that when people really want something, they will buy it regardless of price. If it doesn't sell like crazy, they will simply lower the price to move units, and that will be it.
Well i was in the PS4 Pro target group, i'm not in the PS5 Pro target group, at least not for that price. PS4 Pro prices did fall relatively fast and deep too, will be interesting how the price develops in the next year or two. I can still buy it when its cheaper if i even need it anymore.
Sony should focus on investing in new games, not a hardware update that brings nothing new. The move to try to sell more before the release of Gta VI is understandable, but I highly doubt it will make a big difference.
i dont know if it will be a "failure" or not, but i personally game with 4 other PlayStation players on a regular basis and none of us are getting the Pro. that says a lot to me.

I have plenty of money to buy a ps5 pro, but it's honestly not worth it, especially if you own a ps5 Edit: I never really considered selling my ps5 to offset the cost of the pro.

Quite a few of my friends have PS5s and none of them have any interest in upgrading. They all have the disk version and lots of physical media so it's the cost and having to then purchase another drive.
If any of them have the slim then they can just reuse their current detachable disc drive in the Pro? If they have launch models, then just trade it in towards the Pro and only pay the difference? I'm trading my launch with 4 games to get the Pro half price.

@@PhillipLemmon except inflation has skyrocketed and wafer prices (where chips are made from) have also increased by multiple factors. A lot of gamers are simply ignorant. Sony actually still loses money on the hardware. Of course this includes all PS related hardware they sell but I imagine the controllers, portal and VR are sold at a profit so the PS5 must be sold at a a loss.
As a lapsed PC gamer of over a decade (due to lifestyle changes, not because I don’t love it) the PS5 Pro doesn’t feel overpriced for me. I spend significantly more than the price of one on a new iPhone every 3-5 years, which also nets incremental improvements rather than anything revolutionary. I can offset the cost of the PS5 Pro by selling my PS5. I’ve been all digital library since Steam launched, and so I don’t care about the lack of a disc drive. Also I bought my PS5 Pro in Japan where at the current exchange rate it effectively cost me £630. So with the money back from the sold PS5 I’m more than happy to spend ~£100 per year on hardware for my primary source of entertainment. I’d even happily just pay PlayStation ~£150 per year to always have the latest and greatest console hardware delivered on release day, with them collecting the old one to refurbish/resell themselves. I suppose I’m a unique case, but for me it feels fine. It would have been *nicer* for me and everyone else if it was only £500 and came with a base PS5 price drop, but an extra £130 on top (at the price I paid) doesn’t put me off.

Me too , I’m looking forward to it. I mean, I do have a base model. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great console. I use it practically daily, but I’m still playing a lot of stuff in Fidelity mode., if I can get away from that the rest of this generation then I’m all for it.

The PS5Pro was never going to be the same price as the base unit. they didn't even lower the price for the PS5 yet (As in a definite price cut.) the cheapest systems are all digital (this is what they're really aiming for ;) ) There's a reason why they made the PS5Pro standard digital only as well.
Same here, i want to see if the pro is going to be able to run ff16 and space marine 2 at a locked 60fps, but having the same outdated cpu id say very unlikely
True. Quality mode going from 30 to 60 fps is such a small difference. It's probably not even noticeable, especially when you compare it to 30 fps vs 30 fps
Well it’s not many enticing PS5 exclusives out there so gamers don’t really find the PS5 Pro attractive at the moment, Many people is waiting on Nintendo to announce the Switch 2 so they rather put money towards that to be honest
Alan Wake 2, Black Mith Wukong, Space Marine 2 Are only the beginning of the base ps5 underperforming. I am looking forward to the pro. I don’t want to switch to pc (yet) and with a trade in it’s ok.
I don’t know, but I preordered one. I currently don’t have a console or a PC and I wanted to get best hardware to get back into gaming without going as expensive as getting a PC
In that case, it was a good buy. I have always had both consoles and PC but if you are not sitting at a desk the PS5 Pro will be the better option. I do have a living room PC but it takes some tweaking for suitability that many don't want to deal with

@@booster2853 yeah absolutely. You do have to factor in the cost of even PS plus essentials as well but yeah it’s still going to be a cheaper option. If you want to dip your toe into PC land have a look at a refurbished steam deck as back in stock at the moment. In a weird way steam deck bought me back into serious PC gaming after a long time away mainly using consoles and macOS machines for other stuff. DF have been very positive about the PS5 Pro as a whole and that’s a good sign.
I think consumers are waiting for it to hit store shelves and get more honest reviews of the PS5 Pro. I know that's what I'm doing because I don't trust youtubers that are invited to something because I know most of them will only say good things so they can continue to be invited back by Sony. That's just my two cents
I think that the PS5 Pro will sell really poorly in Europe because of the ridiculous pricing for Europe. 799 Euro without a disc drive and with a vertical stand. That would be 960 Euro in total. I have seen that Sony has lowered the price for the PS5 slim digital and PS5 slim with disc drive in the mean time, going under 500 Euro. The decission for parents will be easily made. 500 Euro difference...

I already have invested into so many physical games for PlayStation so I dont wanna rebuy games. It's like getting a free $10 upgrade for most of my games. At 20 games getting upgraded, that's a $200 value already.
To me the biggest disappointment is the lack of improvement in the CPU department, I watch all DF videos (have been for more than a decade I believe, I remember very clearly PS3 black ops 2 analysis for example, good times) and I can tell that PS5 has a lot of issues in those CPU heavy scenarios, and the 10% boost likely wont be enough to achieve steady 60fps… a shame as I truly believed that this generation would finally drop 30fps titles altogether
Alot of us paid a premium for ps5 because of the pandemic and the scalpers just to upgrade and get a decent gaming session. I wont pay over $500 for another console again
I was able to order 4 at base price. 2 for my home. 1 got my cousin, then another for my youngest daughter the following February after they initially released.
It’s a luxury item. It doesn’t need to sell out. It’s just a mother revenue stream for Sony for people who want to upgrade. It’s nothing to them. And better yet we get a CHOICE. It hasn’t replaced the intro SKU so why are people moaning?
Increased Price you pay with zero added function. Good sales imply an even more absurdly priced console next. Sony puts their exclusives on pc as a sign that they no longer give a fuck about console sales, so they'll continue to overcharge their addicted fan base, for their underwhelming hardware.

I just bought a $3k laptop. If I wanted to buy a new flagship phone, that's $1k ($1.5k for a fold). $700 (+disk drive) doesn't seem all that expensive in comparison. I'm not saying it's cheap, but not unreasonable if you want console h/w that has less compromises, for those who don't want a gaming PC (like me). In this day and age of multi-platform, where console versions are getting reviewed a lot of the time as "not as shiny", it makes sense to me that Sony (and MS if their heart was still in the game) would like to not hear a review always making it sound like you get a much lesser experience on a console.
I made my first PC with a 1070 GPU and it was worth it it for a while against my PS4. Once the PS5 came out, that came out ahead and for me to upgrade my PC today would be more expensive than the Pro. Seeing as consoles are now including performance and fidelity settings for pretty much all games, I'm more comfortable with just going with consoles and their mid gen upgrades over upgrading a PC. I'm eventually going to have to turn down settings as newer games come out on PC anyway. There were quite a few that I played that were poorly optimized and couldn't even run well on lower settings.

Why is no one complaining about the $600 Series X that just dropped. They removed the disc drive (can't be added on with an attachment), didn't upgrade the hardware, but increased the storage to 2TB. They are charging an extra $100 for it.
First of all the Xbox series x that's $600 has a 2 tb SSD it also has a disc drive too. Microsoft also has an all digital white Xbox series x coming out that has 1tb SSD and no disc drive for $449
@@TheBoochi-j7b apart from a tiny handful of enthusiasts, nobody on Xbox _actually_ uses a disc drive though because they don't buy games, let alone physical ones thanks to GamePass training them not to, so including a disc drive just balloons the price of the console unnecessarily just like the Kinect did for the XB1 at launch because nobody actually wanted it. I think the _real_ reason Xbox are including a disc drive is to sell off remaining stock of disc drive hardware they still havn't yet sold before going all in 100% digital, and the best way to sell off stock nobody wants is by FOMO for hardcore collector enthusiasts with a "special" edition adding paint splatter to the console... Meanwhile Xbox think they can get away with charging almost PS5 Pro money for it which is just wild.
The next problem would be game devs deliberately poorly optimizing their ps5 exclusive games for the base ps5 but make it super optimized for the ps5 pro to force base ps5 owners to buy the ps5 pro
This is one of the most ridiculous questions I think I’ve ever heard within the gaming community. The answer is very easily NO, because: A; We don’t know how many PS5 Pro systems Sony have already made pre-release to ensure they have enough available. B. We also don’t know how many PS5 Pro systems Sony are capable of producing in the 5 to 6 week timeframe between pre-orders and the release November 7th release date, which for all we know could be millions of PS5 Pro’s alone. C. But more importantly, we are no longer in the middle of a pandemic, and Sony are no longer struggling to meet demand due to a chip shortage like they were in 2020 when the base PS5 launched either. Seriously, I’m really starting to question the IQ level of the average person online, because people continually ask the dumbest questions imaginable. Questions that can often be answered with just 5 minutes of (minimal effort) research.
Allot of people don’t have £700 to part with in one go. I’d expect sales will now go up with it being on sites like very where you can spread the cost. And not including a stand that would cost pennies to manufacture is a bad move.
If you didn’t have a PS4, the PS4 Pro made perfect sense. Similarly, if you don’t have a PS5 AND the price doesn’t immediately turn you off, it makes sense. For everyone else though, it’s a pass.

That will not happen for marketing and industrial reasons. It's easier and more profitable to just have to produce one model. The thing I hope now is that the PS6 will still have the option to add a detachable disc player to at least have the option for physical games (PS6, PS5 and PS4 backward compatibilty). But now we can be sure that the PS6 base model will be only digital like the base PS5 Pro...

The real metric Sony is tracking isn’t sold out/not sold out, it’s how much unsold stock they have. If it’s 2000 units, it’s going great for them. 2 million, and they’re paying a lot of money to store units they’ll have to eventually discount. We won’t know which one is which until their financial results hit.
The price is not the problem. Even gougers are not touching this thing. People were buying ps5s for 1k plus during the pandemic for the excitement of having a new console with new games. Don’t try to damage control for their cash grabbing.

I pre ordered a PS5 Pro but I was having issues finding the disk drive for a couple weeks and I was ready to cancel the whole thing over the frustration.
As far as I'm concerned if you're going to call it a pro console it should come with everything. So the stand should be included, the disk drive should especially be included. After hearing so many Sony fans talk about liking physical media it's wild to me that they wouldn't include at least the disk drive in that $700 price.

Right off the bat you’re right about walking into a store and picking up a console. Since now scalpers have ruined everything, it’s my biggest concern for the Switch 2, I seriously hope I won’t need to wait nearly a year to get one like I had to with the PS5.

Uh, ya, that's how it works. COVID still mutates. It's also why there wasn't one FLU vaccine and then suddenly we "beat" the flu. *My dad almost DIED from COVID just two months ago as he has cancer and is immunocomprimised. He's already had FOUR vaccinations (includes boosters). PART of the reason it's still spreading is people that don't take COVID seriously.
I personally would argue that not having a display that uses most of the latest features like VRR,,Freesync 120Hz (OLED preferably) there's very little reason to actually spend this kind of money when you can utilize a lot of it with a PS5 already.
Word on the digital street is is that the PS5 Pro is top 5 best seller on Amazon. Idk who to believe or trust anymore. All I know is that I will not support the Pro which I think is really a Con.
It grew in popularity and is doing better than people thought. Even content creators who bashed it at first have had a change of heart. It seems like it's going to be a success. 👍🏿 The only thing I can slow it down is Sony and the Switch's successor 🤷🏿♂️
Think about, it is the only new console. Doesn't mean it sells well because it is a top seller. It is new and at the beginning many people are buying this console.

The ps5pro made me realise I actually wanted a PC in my living room too, so I built a SFF with a 5600x and a 4070 Super for a little over 800$. I can play all my games with no need of buying them twice nor paying for online gamig...

Over 20k pre-orders already sold on amazon. Who knows how many sales ps direct has booked. I live in LA and we have a ton of gamestops, targets, walmart, best buy and theyre already sold out on pre-orders. So keep lying to yourselves thinking this console isnt gonna sell.

Not that I care about the PS5 pro but people want the pay the same price they used to pay for consoles 15 or 20 years ago. They don’t complain however when GPU prices sky rocketed in recent years and they happily shell out $1200 only on a video card.I don’t mind paying even a $1000 on a next gen console provided that its done right and its hardware will last for more than 4-5 years. If you dont like the price, buy a PC.
Yep. Go build a PC, including a GAME CONTROLLER that's roughly comparable to the PS5 PRO and see what you get. I get that it's a lot more complicated (software etc) but just start there and you'll discover it's a pretty crappy gaming PC if only comparing the hardware costs.

They cared very much when they artificially constrained manufacturing of the PS5 and sold them to scalpers (not gamers) during the cxvxd pxndxmxc that they had to port the majority of PS5 games to PS4 to stay afloat. Now, PS5 Pro owners must pay the Concord tax. Sony has a habit of shxxtxng both their feet.
At this price it won’t sell out and it does not need to. Only die hard fans will buy at launch the rest will wait for reviews if it’s really worth it and the rest won’t even bother and they don’t need to i f it was at 550 or 600 price range the story would have been different

Well, you're just wrong and Digital Foundry gave several, sensible reasons why "selling out" didn't mean much. If you "sell out" does that mean demand is high or you couldn't make enough? WHY does Sony need to sell "x" number of units? Do you have a reason? Sony got hardware out that helps game devs get a jump on PS6 development. They offer a solution to enthusiasts. But you just think that it's a "disaster" to not sell out with no facts, statistics or even logic to back that up. Sad.
I very nearly ordered one but then ordered a 4080 Super instead. The issue may be that if you own a PS5 (like I do) the price to the difference it makes isn't balanced enough. Having gone through each model from OG Xbox and PS3 (I never had the 2) this feels like the least impressive upgrade and yet cost the most. Of course that is the same issue facing smartphones and other technology as well.
Why is everyone so upset? Let me be straightforward. If you don’t see the value in it, or if it’s beyond your budget, then you’re simply not the target audience. Stick with the base model, and you’ll be fine. As for the disc drive debate-how long has PC gaming been discless? How many people are still actually buying physical discs? Even if you own the disc, you don’t truly "own" the game. What’s the point of the disc when you pop it in, the console sounds like a jet engine, and you still need to install it to the SSD? Then, to top it off, you’ll have to download patches anyway, because most games today are practically unplayable without a day-one patch. Just my two cents..
Be careful what you wish for. If this fails do you think it won’t affect Sony and future plans. I don’t think you want people to move to pc. I got a 3080 I can play everything on high in real 4k I buy ps5 games because I can own the disc. Take that away and I think people are going to consider going pc.
PC game keys are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper/cheapest which helps offset the intial investment in building/buying a gaming PC. Steam, GMG, GOG, et al have much more frequent digital sales than the big three which happens every quarter in the year give or take. Since inception, consoles have been made with traditional disc drives in mind. If megacorps want to go fully digital, then console gamers can just move onto PC. The only practical reason to stick with consoles in the near future would be to get early access to timed-exclusives.
Call it 4 cents, then. I'm with you on the disk drive. You are still just buying a license and the entire thing still has to be installed to the SSD. At this point a disk is just the illusion of ownership and kind of a headache. And I'm someone who insisted on a disk drive on my PS5.
The honest question is can you get a pc with equal performance for the same price? I don’t think you can. Pc prices have gotten so bad that I actually think the ps5 pro price is not that unhinged

Sony said before the psvr2 launch they didn't want to make the same mistake as with the ps5 and make sure there would be enough stock. They probably did the same with ps5 pro now. Seems logical.
No one raised an eye brow over 600$ Xbox with 2tb with no improvements. Now it's 2 TB with wifi 7 and enhanced graphics and world is going crazy. Buy a cheap PS4 if you're that broke, to get better graphics, we need to increase GPU which is expensive. I'll buy one.

I’m getting simply cause I want the most powerful console around. It’s not hard if you are an enthusiast and prefer superior performance. Additionally, PS5 and XSX performance modes have become so blurry. Outside of super optimized first part titles on PS5, resolutions on games have been bad. The PS5 Pro GPU upgrade and significantly better upscaler will alleviate this.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw last week that you can place a pre-order to be delivered on november 7th about anywhere. I haven't seen "sold out" anywhere. In the mean time, on e-bay, people still post "confirmed pre-orders" for sale at + 1000 (up to 1700) dollars.
I hope those scalpers are now stuck with their PS5 Pro's and that they will have to put them second-hand for lower than sales price.

They specifically explained that the image on PS5 Pro is alot better coupled with 60fps framerate but does not translate to youtube videos as youtube is not a good container.
Except for Alex, they all had a hands-on with the actual PS5 Pro, and are all impressed with the visual upgrades they have seen with their own eyes. The only gripe they have is with the pricing, which is weird as opposed to the PS4 Pro at launch, and the lack of a disc drive.
I hope you have a chance to go back and watch their hands-on in multiple videos.
I'm not going to buy it because of the pricing in Europe. I do not expect any price drop for the Pro in the next few years, as this console generation has not seen price drops, but price increases for the console, for the controllers, for the disc drive, ...
The PS6 isn't expected before 2028 and might be even more expensive than the Pro.

Sadly, we will have to adjust to the new reality when it comes to console hardware: prices will never go back to down. It hasn't happened for smartphones, graphic cards, cpu's, ... in the last few years. And as the companies are making more profit now, they have no reason to change course.
Only if consumers bundle together and stop buying products at these prices, then a change might happen. But again, it hasn't happened for other hardware, which shows that people are willing to go along with it.

Mass market model and enthusiast model do not have the same selling points or price points. PS6 will be cheaper like the PS5 base is. It was 400$ at launch and the pro is 700$. PS6 will be 550-600$ for the base model and max 800 for the pro 4 years later. Wanting an optional console to fail because you're afraid the base model will cost more in the future is weird behavior. PS4 Pro only sold 13 Million units. It was only $400 at launch and was great value for people with a 4K TV. The PS5 Pro is the polar opposite. It should sell 5 Million units end of life.

Its also hard to put a number on it, but the camp consisting of people feeling like Sony just pissed them off just a bit too much with this whole launch has to be getting quite big. Grievances like no disc-drive or stand, ridiculously high pricepoint, lackluster demonstration of the point of all these features definately rub me the wrong way, and combined with other blunders in recent times, the premature PSVR2 abandonment for example, I just dont want to support this shit anymore. I've always looked the other way and just got the newest coolest thing, but I'm not happy with what they are doing here, and while the system looks neat and "I want it", I'm sticking with my principles on this one, and I have a feeling I'm far from alone. However, is this group of people even remotely big enough for Sony to financially even feel the slightest tickle..?
I don't think my principles will be the deciding factor on this, but they definitely factor in. Thing is I can go with my principles but they will sell the Pro's regardless of my stance and people will get their Pro's. The only result of that decision will be me not having a Pro. If it can make a difference, take a stance, but if not I only think we make our own life more sour, meanwhile the world moves as it does regardless. Not really a good strategy for your own sake. You could say "but someone has to do it, or no one does", but the thing is I don't think enough people will take that stance, people look out for themselves and in this case they will do what benefits them, I don't think anything's changing that, so you might as well do the same.
So for me it depends on whether the Pro is a good thing, and ultimately that will be the deciding factor I think. People say "you're poor" etc. Money is not the issue, I can easily afford and that's even before selling my base PS5. My thing is I need to know is the Pro actually worth it, as an upgrade. They can say "well we already know what it is, they've told us", I'm sorry but what did I miss, we are trusting marketing now? I need hands-on impressions from trustworthy sources, and it needs to be 100% yes it's a lot better, not it's a bit better or "it depends". Too vague for me. So far I'm not sold.

I distinctly remember both the PS2 and N64 selling out everywhere in North America when they launched. They were very difficult to get until well after the holiday season as well.
PS2 was kind of a special case, it was one of the cheapest DVD players at the time and many people bought it just to be a DVD player.
The Pro consoles aren't meant for everyone, they never were, they are just there to keep players that care about resolution enough from jumping to PC I feel. The PS4 Pro sales accounted for like 12%-20% max of global PS4 sales according to different sources. Sony knew pricing it high would mean ever lower sales than that this, but they also knew from the whole PS5 scalper years, that when people really want something, they will buy it regardless of price. If it doesn't sell like crazy, they will simply lower the price to move units, and that will be it.

Well i was in the PS4 Pro target group, i'm not in the PS5 Pro target group, at least not for that price. PS4 Pro prices did fall relatively fast and deep too, will be interesting how the price develops in the next year or two. I can still buy it when its cheaper if i even need it anymore.

Sony should focus on investing in new games, not a hardware update that brings nothing new. The move to try to sell more before the release of Gta VI is understandable, but I highly doubt it will make a big difference.

Quite a few of my friends have PS5s and none of them have any interest in upgrading. They all have the disk version and lots of physical media so it's the cost and having to then purchase another drive.
If any of them have the slim then they can just reuse their current detachable disc drive in the Pro? If they have launch models, then just trade it in towards the Pro and only pay the difference? I'm trading my launch with 4 games to get the Pro half price.

@@PhillipLemmon except inflation has skyrocketed and wafer prices (where chips are made from) have also increased by multiple factors. A lot of gamers are simply ignorant. Sony actually still loses money on the hardware. Of course this includes all PS related hardware they sell but I imagine the controllers, portal and VR are sold at a profit so the PS5 must be sold at a a loss.

As a lapsed PC gamer of over a decade (due to lifestyle changes, not because I don’t love it) the PS5 Pro doesn’t feel overpriced for me.
I spend significantly more than the price of one on a new iPhone every 3-5 years, which also nets incremental improvements rather than anything revolutionary.
I can offset the cost of the PS5 Pro by selling my PS5. I’ve been all digital library since Steam launched, and so I don’t care about the lack of a disc drive.
Also I bought my PS5 Pro in Japan where at the current exchange rate it effectively cost me £630.
So with the money back from the sold PS5 I’m more than happy to spend ~£100 per year on hardware for my primary source of entertainment.
I’d even happily just pay PlayStation ~£150 per year to always have the latest and greatest console hardware delivered on release day, with them collecting the old one to refurbish/resell themselves.
I suppose I’m a unique case, but for me it feels fine. It would have been *nicer* for me and everyone else if it was only £500 and came with a base PS5 price drop, but an extra £130 on top (at the price I paid) doesn’t put me off.
I have an excuse; last Playstation I had was PS3 😅 So I’m gonna get it!

I don’t know, but I preordered one. I currently don’t have a console or a PC and I wanted to get best hardware to get back into gaming without going as expensive as getting a PC
In that case, it was a good buy. I have always had both consoles and PC but if you are not sitting at a desk the PS5 Pro will be the better option. I do have a living room PC but it takes some tweaking for suitability that many don't want to deal with

@@booster2853 yeah absolutely. You do have to factor in the cost of even PS plus essentials as well but yeah it’s still going to be a cheaper option. If you want to dip your toe into PC land have a look at a refurbished steam deck as back in stock at the moment. In a weird way steam deck bought me back into serious PC gaming after a long time away mainly using consoles and macOS machines for other stuff. DF have been very positive about the PS5 Pro as a whole and that’s a good sign.
I think consumers are waiting for it to hit store shelves and get more honest reviews of the PS5 Pro. I know that's what I'm doing because I don't trust youtubers that are invited to something because I know most of them will only say good things so they can continue to be invited back by Sony. I think that the PS5 Pro will sell really poorly in Europe because of the ridiculous pricing for Europe. 799 Euro without a disc drive and with a vertical stand. That would be 960 Euro in total.
I have seen that Sony has lowered the price for the PS5 slim digital and PS5 slim with disc drive in the mean time, going under 500 Euro.

I already have invested into so many physical games for PlayStation so I dont wanna rebuy games. It's like getting a free $10 upgrade for most of my games. At 20 games getting upgraded, that's a $200 value already.
To me the biggest disappointment is the lack of improvement in the CPU department, I watch all DF videos (have been for more than a decade I believe, I remember very clearly PS3 black ops 2 analysis for example, good times) and I can tell that PS5 has a lot of issues in those CPU heavy scenarios, and the 10% boost likely wont be enough to achieve steady 60fps… a shame as I truly believed that this generation would finally drop 30fps titles altogether

Digital Foundry literally showed games look BETTER, especially if the base resolution was higher AND they used PSSR instead of FSR. I guess on PC, it's "zero added function" to upgrade from, say, a GTX1080 to an RTX3080?
I just bought a $3k laptop. If I wanted to buy a new flagship phone, that's $1k ($1.5k for a fold). $700 (+disk drive) doesn't seem all that expensive in comparison. I'm not saying it's cheap, but not unreasonable if you want console h/w that has less compromises, for those who don't want a gaming PC (like me). In this day and age of multi-platform, where console versions are getting reviewed a lot of the time as "not as shiny", it makes sense to me that Sony (and MS if their heart was still in the game) would like to not hear a review always making it sound like you get a much lesser experience on a console.
I made my first PC with a 1070 GPU and it was worth it it for a while against my PS4.
Once the PS5 came out, that came out ahead and for me to upgrade my PC today would be more expensive than the Pro.
Seeing as consoles are now including performance and fidelity settings for pretty much all games, I'm more comfortable with just going with consoles and their mid gen upgrades over upgrading a PC.
I'm eventually going to have to turn down settings as newer games come out on PC anyway. There were quite a few that I played that were poorly optimized and couldn't even run well on lower settings.

Why is no one complaining about the $600 Series X that just dropped. They removed the disc drive (can't be added on with an attachment), didn't upgrade the hardware, but increased the storage to 2TB. They are charging an extra $100 for it.

First of all the Xbox series x that's $600 has a 2 tb SSD it also has a disc drive too. Microsoft also has an all digital white Xbox series x coming out that has 1tb SSD and no disc drive for $449

I think the _real_ reason Xbox are including a disc drive is to sell off remaining stock of disc drive hardware they still havn't yet sold before going all in 100% digital, and the best way to sell off stock nobody wants is by FOMO for hardcore collector enthusiasts with a "special" edition adding paint splatter to the console... Meanwhile Xbox think they can get away with charging almost PS5 Pro money for it which is just wild.

This is one of the most ridiculous questions I think I’ve ever heard within the gaming community.
The answer is very easily NO, because:
A; We don’t know how many PS5 Pro systems Sony have already made pre-release to ensure they have enough available.
B. We also don’t know how many PS5 Pro systems Sony are capable of producing in the 5 to 6 week timeframe between pre-orders and the release November 7th release date, which for all we know could be millions of PS5 Pro’s alone.
C. But more importantly, we are no longer in the middle of a pandemic, and Sony are no longer struggling to meet demand due to a chip shortage like they were in 2020 when the base PS5 launched either.
Seriously, I’m really starting to question the IQ level of the average person online, because people continually ask the dumbest questions imaginable. Questions that can often be answered with just 5 minutes of (minimal effort) research.
Well, had it been the price of the PS4 Pro or in that ballpark it would have probably sold out.

If you didn’t have a PS4, the PS4 Pro made perfect sense. Similarly, if you don’t have a PS5 AND the price doesn’t immediately turn you off, it makes sense. For everyone else though, it’s a pass.

That will not happen for marketing and industrial reasons. It's easier and more profitable to just have to produce one model. The real metric Sony is tracking isn’t sold out/not sold out, it’s how much unsold stock they have. If it’s 2000 units, it’s going great for them. 2 million, and they’re paying a lot of money to store units they’ll have to eventually discount. We won’t know which one is which until their financial results hit.
The price is not the problem. Even gougers are not touching this thing. People were buying ps5s for 1k plus during the pandemic for the excitement of having a new console with new games. Don’t try to damage control for their cash grabbing.

I personally would argue that not having a display that uses most of the latest features like VRR,,Freesync 120Hz (OLED preferably) there's very little reason to actually spend this kind of money when you can utilize a lot of it with a PS5 already.

Not that I care about the PS5 pro but people want the pay the same price they used to pay for consoles 15 or 20 years ago. They don’t complain however when GPU prices sky rocketed in recent years and they happily shell out $1200 only on a video card.I don’t mind paying even a $1000 on a next gen console provided that its done right and its hardware will last for more than 4-5 years. Sony got hardware out that helps game devs get a jump on PS6 development. They offer a solution to enthusiasts. But you just think that it's a "disaster" to not sell out with no facts, statistics or even logic to back that up. Sad.

I very nearly ordered one but then ordered a 4080 Super instead. The issue may be that if you own a PS5 (like I do) the price to the difference it makes isn't balanced enough. Having gone through each model from OG Xbox and PS3 (I never had the 2) this feels like the least impressive upgrade and yet cost the most. Of course that is the same issue facing smartphones and other technology as well.
Why is everyone so upset? Let me be straightforward. If you don’t see the value in it, or if it’s beyond your budget, then you’re simply not the target audience. Stick with the base model, and you’ll be fine. As for the disc drive debate-how long has PC gaming been discless? How many people are still actually buying physical discs? Even if you own the disc, you don’t truly "own" the game. What’s the point of the disc when you pop it in, the console sounds like a jet engine, and you still need to install it to the SSD? Then, to top it off, you’ll have to download patches anyway, because most games today are practically unplayable without a day-one patch. Just my two cents..

Be careful what you wish for. If this fails do you think it won’t affect Sony and future plans. I don’t think you want people to move to pc. I got a 3080 I can play everything on high in real 4k I buy ps5 games because I can own the disc. Take that away and I think people are going to consider going pc.
PC game keys are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper/cheapest which helps offset the intial investment in building/buying a gaming PC. Steam, GMG, GOG, et al have much more frequent digital sales than the big three which happens every quarter in the year give or take. Since inception, consoles have been made with traditional disc drives in mind. If megacorps want to go fully digital, then console gamers can just move onto PC. The only practical reason to stick with consoles in the near future would be to get early access to timed-exclusives.
Call it 4 cents, then. I'm with you on the disk drive. You are still just buying a license and the entire thing still has to be installed to the SSD. At this point a disk is just the illusion of ownership and kind of a headache. And I'm someone who insisted on a disk drive on my PS5.

I’m getting simply cause I want the most powerful console around. It’s not hard if you are an enthusiast and prefer superior performance. Additionally, PS5 and XSX performance modes have become so blurry. Outside of super optimized first part titles on PS5, resolutions on games have been bad. The PS5 Pro GPU upgrade and significantly better upscaler will alleviate this.
