Carly Simon and James Taylor were a power couple in the 70s. After their divorce, Carly kind of quit performing. She only does concerts on rare occasions. Of the two, I always preferred Simon's voice and her compositions. Taylor, though, has written some really powerful songs like "Fire and Rain". This was a lovely walk down memory lane.
My favorite Carly Simon song is "Nobody Does it Better ", but "Mockingbird" with James Taylor sure is a toe tapper. I quit using alcohol 22 years ago so this is the first time I've been sober while listening to "Mockingbird."" I think I had a time warp experience ! Thanks Mary; it was fun hearing this.
Just heard this song on the radio a couple hours ago and thought "that would be a good reaction song". Never saw this video, but it was nice to see them HAPPY performing. Was that Waddy?
I was in the front row , Sept 21, 1979 one of the greatest nights of my life - dream line up - look into the No Nukes Concert movie. It was an unforgettable show. Madison sq garden . I was 18 - gave Carly roses 🥀
@@jaimereynolds258 check out the No Nukes movie - you can find it on youtube in a couple of different parts. It was such an incredible night - I'm Carly and JT's biggest fan - I have a million stories of meeting them or other experiences over the years.... They are both great singers individually but together (as this video shows) they are magic. I love their dancing. They looked so in love. It broke my heart that they split.
Regina so I just checked out their version, and while good, it just doesn't bring the fun and playful sexy like James and Carly as a married couple. James and Carly really sold this one.
@@calme-dx2dp i just read an interview with her where she says that the second verse is about warren beatty. at any rate, it isn't about james, as the song came out in 1972 and they were married later that year. they divorced in 1983.
I have this song, this version, on my iPod I just randomly found this on iTunes one day when I was in middle school and decided I liked it. I didn’t even know the singers were famous or even look at the names at the time😅
A direct cover of the original 1963 release by Inez & Charlie Foxx. It's based on the traditional lullabye, "Hush Little Baby", but thether the Foxx's original nor Simon & Taylor's cover would likely help get a baby to sleep.
By the way if you like this you need to listen to Carly Simon’s version of the children’s song “itsy-bitsy spider and she doesn’t live in the 1980s at a concert at Cape Cod which is on TH-cam if you want to see it there
I saw James Taylor in concert last year. Excellent concert. I was surprised how good it was. During the time of his marriage to Carly Simon he might’ve had a wee bit of a drug problem. But, he doesn’t gloss over the fact.
You should try the 1960's hits "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight" by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. Also, consider "Do it Again a Little Bit Slower" by Jon and Robin
Written by Inez Foxx & her brother. Original Stage performance by Johnny O'Keefe & Del Juliana in Australia 1963. Good to compare the two performances. Just about Identical but many years later. Let me know what you think.
You might enjoy listening to Puttin' on the Ritz by Cole Porter who wrote it in the 1930s and then by Taco who really reinvented it in the 80s. Anyway, nice reaction. All the best.
Ok. So, I like them both individually as artists. And it’s funny. I was really young when this was popular... I first heard this song when it was sung by Chevy Chase & Beverly D’Angelo in the first Vacation movie when they were annoying their kids with a family singalong ha!!! Never really liked this, still dont. 🙈🙉💁🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
lol my dad, one night ,mom said they were out and my dad never drank but I guess this one night he decided to indulge and on the jukebox was this song but by the original artists(Inez and Charlie Foxx) and he played it over and over til they kicked him out haha
it's a great performance and the most animated I've seen Taylor. James very talented guy but to be honest he was the most boring concert I've ever been to, like watching a statue. It's a great old song originally done around 1960, that's worth listening to.
@@RoryVanucchi He has been touring the last couple of years with Bonnie Raitt (who I love) and he has a terrific band and backup singers. Been to several of his concerts and always enjoyed them. Not gonna be dancing all over the place, for sure. But the music is great.
@@PerthTowne thanks. My concert days are over. Hoped to see Doobie Brothers 50th with MacDonald but could cancelled the shows. Taylor great and I saw him 40 years ago so long time ago.
James Taylor has a great voice, this song really doen not do his voice justice, like in "fire and rain" and "sailing to Philadelphia " a duet he did with Mark Knopfler th-cam.com/video/OrLdKYRBOEE/w-d-xo.html
Always been a fan of both of them. This brings back memories. Used to sing it with my 3 year old daughter back in 1975 when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Never forget You're So Vain. It separated her from the also rans.
Carly has had crippling stage fright which is a why she performs so rarely.
Ah yes .. haven't heard that one n a while. So much fun😁 Agree Mary .. much needed .. thnx so much Mary & Ty. Many blessings ❣️
I thoroughly enjoyed that it was such a happy uplifting way to start my day!👏👏👏👏👏👏🎶💓☕

Mary, great pick. That was an absolutely wonderful performance and, yes, fun. Plus, I've always loved Carly Simon's voice.
Yes a wonderful tune
The world Definitely needs more of THIS right now! Might calm people down all around the globe!✌🏼🎼😍
Well, that had my toes tapping. Great memories.
You usually never see James move this much on stage.

That's exactly what made Joe Cocker so great. The ability to cover songs and make them his own.
Just like it was yesterday,, great song!
James Taylor and Carly Simon were married and Carly's family was part of Simon and Shuster publishers.
Yeah...he's the one who thinks that song is about him...it more than likely was (James that is)

He's very smoot in it .
charles and innez fox originals of this is well worth a listen a sixties classic
I bet they’re children have awesome singing voices.

This live performance is far better than their studio version that was a hit on the radio. The energy and the roar of the audience adds so much to it.

Ohhhh this song was sang in Vacation..... with Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo… They sang it in the first of the movie when I got in the car
My mom used to sing that to me as a lullaby.

Blue Lou Marini on sax and I believe he’s still in James’s band, at least he was the last time I saw JT in concert.
He is still with JT.
“ Go on now , go ahead!!!!” Aretha to Blue Lou.

Was this from the No Nukes concert at Madison Square Garden? Because I saw them do this song together, just like they did here.
