I think Greg Judy is able to consistently graze 1/3 of his pastures because he has mostly endophyte infested fescue. The endophyte is concentrated on the roots, stem, and seed head. The top 1/3 of his grass has the lease endophyte as long as it doesn't set seed. I think it's important to realize He wouldn't be successful using this type of extreme non selective grazing. But it is effective for general graziers in most other environments.
I disagree, if he adopted this type of grazing, I believe he would get better results, however, Greg has 1600+acres for him to do this he would have to increase his head count, otherwise he wouldnt be able to graze all the pastures, now he selectively grazes and that's why his pastures are dominated by Fescue 31. Further because he has Fescue 31 dominated pastures he cannot intensively graze his pastures cos it would poison his cattle when the endophytes are present, which is when its warm. It's a cycle that I believe is preventing Greg from increasing his head count, cos hes more worried about winter stockpiling than he is about his headcount and warm season grasses. I think what he has been doing has worked for him but I also think he is being a bit blinkered in his approach. But I know nothing. Greg has 400cattle on 1600+acres with 400ish sheep, with Pigs and LSG dogs. Jim has 600cattle on 500acres, I can appreciate one is in Florida and the other is in Missouri and the weather&climatic conditions are different, but Jim's approach is based on quantitative data and analysis, science. Greg's is based on guts, sticking to what works, but he doesn't seem to experiment like Jim does. Jim is an academic that's farming, and Greg is a farmer that got into it through his family. I love Greg Judy I watch all his videos I think he is great, but, I think Jim's approach would significantly increase Greg's profit per acre, double it at least, I think Greg is set in his ways, it's not easy to teach an old dog a new way to bark. Just my opinion. It counts for nothing. 👍👍👍👍
Further just so you understand what I am trying to say if I confused you, cos I confuse myself sometimes, go to 17minutes in the video, Jim explains what happens to cells when too much potassium is in the diet. He is a scientist, he explains about osmotic pressure and why the calves can end up having high birth weight because of the relationship between sodium and potassium in the cells inside the phoetus and the oedema it can cause. He knows his stuff. Greg, bless him, rambles sometimes. Dont we all. Jim seems very calculated in everything he says, it might be because english isnt his first language, and he has to translate some things in his head before he says them, 🤷♂️👍❤. Just my opinion.
@@denozz I just recently found this video series by Living Web Farms and Jim's just blowing my mind with his stuff. At first when I heard about his Total Grazing "system" it didn't make much sense, but now as I'm going through these videos (and will have to again and over again when I feel the need to), Jim's research and extensive knowledge just make so much sense. Jim definitely knows his stuff, man! Like I said, mind-blowing, so glad I stumbled onto these videos!
I'm not questioning Jim's extensive and deep knowledge, but just a suggestion: chickens to follow cows sometime after to break fly cycle in cow poop. More profit and natural solution with no cow-wash needed.
Thank you so much! I now have the means to regenerate the degraded selectively grazed pasture that we inherited!
Very impressive Mr. Elizondo

What did you add to the 6 seed blend to promote growth? Microrisions?
