    Hey Walt, great work with your Rybakov. I worked VK3EY a few days later from the beaches of Brittany and I mentioned you as my chosen source of inspiration😁
    I have a Rybakov I bought from M0CVO (as the "Magitenna") before I watched your videos (I would have built it myself instead) and sometimes it works really well, sometimes not so good. The ground conductivity seems to alter its efficiency quite a lot. I use it with 8x5m ground radials when I can't take advantage of a wire to the sea water like you did here.
    On 40m my SWR is in the 2.5 range. I need to use the G90's tuner. Also on 16m.
    I've experimented a longer radiating element (29ft, 8.84m) with a 9:1 LDG unun and SWR was worse. I ended up using the 4:1 that came with the Magitenna but saw no significant difference from the original 25ft, 7.6m wire.
    Best 73s to you & family, Walt.

    Hey Walt, I just wanted to say Thank You for the tip off about using "speaker wire" for building antennas. I bought some off eBay (it arrived this morning) and I'm thinking about building the Rybakov as a simple home base vertical here. I'll need to get a 4:1 unun but it's payday this week so fingers crossed I can grab one next week. 73 and good DX. DE G7LPW (Keith) in Norfolk England.

    I use this antenna often for POTA since I can just use my drive on mast mount and a 30ft pole. It's not as good as my 53ft or 71ft EFRW but it's quicker and less trouble to use in high foot traffic areas.
    Like you said, for 40-10 it's a good option and gets decent results.

    Great fun Walt ! Yes early morning . Grey line DX is great ! For last Fall/Winter?early Spring 10/12 meters was GREAT ! Both the Rybakov and end fed half wave veritable and the longer 9:1 random wire veritable ground mount is great DX antenna .Easy to set up. Someone north of me did a POTA on 7200 and got it done. Did video on youtube. Was great ! I did FT8 on 17 meters and 15 meters just the outher day. was great. some DX . I got my QRO 49:1 warm. got over 100 contacts from 5Am to Noon. 400 watt . Same setup but was a Park . and 49:1 with mono band wire cut for 15 and another one for 17 meters. Just drop down change wire. I did 4- 17F counterpoise on ground. works great ! I got tune around 1.3/1.5 on FT8 . stays under 1.8 on SSB part. I get better tune on my 10/11/12 meter wire and the 6 meter wire. 20 meters goes up but under 2:1 the whole band. I used a 2 stack of FT 240-61 wound with 10 AWG mag wire and 3KV 100 PF cap. Not hard to make a UNUN . 73

    Your videos are inspirational. I am finally getting my stuff in now to build my go kit for the beach. Thanks to your videos for ideas. Ignore 7.200 MHz. And even above 7.200, you have to deal with shortwave broadcast stations in the evening from Europe transmitting in AM mode. But again, I just turn the dial, change the band, or change the mode... Sadly, CW and digitals modes have a higher duty cycle which depletes the battery faster. But I should have decent time to play SSB voice. I've been wanting to test not only antennas I build myself but also ham radios too - either from a kit or homebrew. But anyways, another good video. The portable HF on the beach has gotten me excited about ham radio again.

The heatwave here has delayed things, but hope to get it up this week. Wee question if I may. The fully extended pole is 32ft and the Rybakov 25ft. Do you just tape the wire to the pole at that length or are you using one of those s-biners for this? If so, how? Again, really inspirational stuff. Les, Oregon, KK7TPM

    Here is a video of my radial kit. 4 x 5m long. Made from silicon wire to make them easier to unroll. My whole antenna system is made from Ali Express parts, but I bought the 10mm to 3/8 adapter for the telescopic whip to keep things at 3/8. Even the spring and the string winders came from Ali Express. th-cam.com/video/zKSV8wBxUhE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_iig0XBlcRMzIHJW

    I want to try at the beach here @ South Padre Island, we can actually drive on the beach north towards port Mansfield and have little or no traffic sometimes. DX Commander looks like a reasonable option for for the beach, do you use an umbrella mount sometimes? Screw into the sand?

    Thanks for another great video. I'm going to build one of these. I'm semi retired, so I'm on a budget. Can I use a painter's pole that's about 24 feet when extended, or would the aluminum pole sections cause problems? I could cobble together some PVP pile ( I can't really afford a DX Commander pole). Also, I've noticed a lot more nonsense on the 40 meter band these days: people playing music, swearing (got nothing against swearing just not on ham radio), and political rants. I love amateur radio because it's a place I go to to avoid the craziness of life. Thankfully, there is the 20 and 15 meter bands for DXing. I live in Marin CA, so we're near beaches. I really want to try putting a counterpoise out into salt water. Thanks again...73...KN6KNB

      Thanks for watching! Unfortunately that painters pole will cause problems because of its metal parts. Here’s an idea I’ve tried and it works. I’ve used a couple old smaller poles and taped them together to make them extend to the 25 feet I needed. You could get a couple cheap Crappie poles online or find some old fishing poles and strip the eyelets off them. That’s actually how I built my first Rybakov when I was over in Poland. If you go back and look at the beginning of this video, that green mast is a couple poles tapped together. 73, Walt

    • @COASTALWAVESWIRES
      @COASTALWAVESWIRES  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      it's about 45mm or roughly 1-3/4 inches. I have not been able to find an umbrella spike big enough to support it and that's why I use PVC pipe as a support spike. 73, Walt

    • @COASTALWAVESWIRES
      @COASTALWAVESWIRES  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They are very similar antennas especially on 20, 17 and 15 meters. The Rybakov adds 40 meters and is really amazing on 10 meters.

    • @abundantlifehomestead3100
      @abundantlifehomestead3100 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @COASTALWAVESWIRES Thanks for the info! I've been using a 17.5 as my qth antenna for some time now. With my tuner, it's good for 15-40 meters. It appears to tune up on 10 and 12, but I've only been able to complete a couple of contacts on 12, and none on 10.
      I'll try the 25' soon.
