    Double stops are essentially when you play two notes at the same time. Double stops also mean playing two notes of the same chord at the same time. It's kind of a weird name since you don't actually stop the guitar from making noise, or anything like that. In this lesson, Gary will show you double stops and how to use them by playing three different types. Double stops are great to use in lead play, riffs, and more. Don't miss out on this lesson!

    That was one of the clearest, most helpful guitar lessons I've ever watched. I love that you didn't explain a simple concept, then demonstrate it with a super complex solo. You played examples that I can actually see myself playing with a little practice. Thank you.

    Nice overview of double stops. I use them all the time. I don't think double stops is a weird term - just not typical for us fretted instrument players. Stopping is another term for pressing the string against the fretboard - usually used when talking about fretless instruments - violin, cello, etc. I suppose you could call double stops "dyads", but that's discussion for a different day. :-)

    The thing I find interesting with the minor pent double stops, is that you're harmonising each note of the minor pent with it's perfect fifth, except for the 5th, which ends up harmonised with it's min6. So, in the Amin example, the 5 note (E) is harmonized with a C (E's min6) and not B. Keen to try it out with that variation and see how it sounds

    when playing lead guitar lines and double stops on the guitar aswell as includings scales in guitar playing is it important to actually include and play the main root note of each chord of the chord progression in order of the song aswell as adding extra notes inbetween and extra double stops inbetween to help form lead guitar melody lines for lead guitar ? is this a good approach ? or have i actually got the wrong idea ?

    Why you were teaching the etiquette to double stops what I'm doing is playing the 12 Bar Blues and working out of my minor pentatonic box I don't understand the etiquette all I know is is 3rd 4th and 5th etcetera so what I'm doing is taking my notes and going 333 spaces above for a third or four or five etcetera

      If a double stop is playing two notes simultaneously, then I think yes a power chord is a double stop?
      So, all power chords are double stops, but not all double stops are power chords. Would this be correct?

    • @marlonlopez931

    double stop is a terrible term. who named this technique and why did everyone just went along with it

    • @GuitarTricks
      @GuitarTricks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This term comes from the violin way way back. "Stopping" is simply putting your finger down on the string, to produce a note other than an open string. So technically, it refers to using your fingers on both of those strings. This term was carried over to guitar.
