I think the S15 might give it a run for its money, but they never officially made it to the US, so there's that somewhat expensive problem. I just checked and a fairly clean Spec-R S15 goes for over $40k right now through an import agency, so I guess that's another car I'm never meant to own.
This west coast video is the best video Everyday Driver has done since Pilgrimage. The sense of adventure was beautifully captured and allowed the viewer to feel like they were along for the ride. The scenic shots were cinematic quality. The long format piece suits your storytelling style and lets us share in your natural humor (plus the occasional breaking into song). There’s an honesty to this video that is such a refreshing contrast to the usual click bait content made by others. The underlying theme of using a car (even a modern classic) for its intended purpose is a timely reminder during a period of escalating vehicle values and an important rebuttal to the misguided urge to stow away our prized possessions. Enjoyment doesn’t come from simply possessing an object, it comes from using that object for its intended purpose. You both have succeeded at doing that here. Looking forward to the next part of this 4 Points series. Thank you for making such original and engaging content.
I was literally formulating a comment that conveyed how this video made me feel and you expressed my feelings exactly! This encourages me to go on some journeys myself . Thank you guys , truly 🌍
There's few things more satisfying than having an old car you love and fixing the things that haven't been working right and you've just been dealing with BECAUSE you love the car
Neither made sense though. Allowing consumption of weed in your private time does not contradict prohibiting using a mobile phone while driving on a public road. And when a cop stops him, he will be stationary. Noone will know his speedometer doesnt work. But we might use his singing to scare russians away.
These are two of my favorite cars! The 928 is one of the best-looking cars of the 80’s and the Z32 300ZX is one of the best of the 90’s! You guys have great taste in cars!
I know you have a tv show but for those of us that can't see it you have know idea the eternal gratitude for uploading these in their fullness best channel for driving on TH-cam you guys always understand the meaning of driving
We're uploading all our TV stuff here after it Premieres on MotorTrend Cable and goes to Amazon Prime. Thankfully, we've been able to shorten the time between these steps as we go. Thank you for watching and enjoying what we do!
Gorgeous cinematography as always! I can’t wait for the rest of this series. Definitely can relate to some of Paul’s 928 pains with my own car, but he’s right that all is forgiven when you drive it!
Thank you from Sydney Australia. We've done San Diego to San Francisco several times but never to Seattle. This is a must do next time we are in the States. Thank you again.
What did Paul's wife say when he told her how much he spent fixing the Porsche? "Oh you Schmucker" Guys this was one of the best presentations I've seen on any channel! I love how you guys let the trip itself tell us a story. It honestly didn't feel 45 plus minutes long. Awesome cinematography. Kudos to the entire crew for putting this together!
A huge thank you to you for the compliments. We're glad this resonated with you as intended and we're encouraged by your comments. Three more big trips like this on the way this year. Glad to have you watching!
Taking your own car on a road trip, I wholeheartedly agree. Buying a car that I love and that is fun to drive.. I don't want to look back on it and say "It got me to work every day". After realizing that, we've been packing it for week long road trips, and it's been great. I don't regret putting a few extra thousand miles on it at all. Those are the good miles. Those are the memories with the car.
Thanks for reminding me about this trip. My wife and I did this the opposite direction last June in my 2018 Miata Club. The weather for us was great, so much of the time we had the top down. The six speed manual was so much fun.
I actually kinda appreciate the night time footage and the not perfect weather. It's a REAL TRIP. Not a Top Gear episode. Now I want to revisit my plan to drive to Maine.
I live in Oregon and have enjoyed a lot of the road seen in this video. My wife has family in New England, most of them located in Maine. There are a lot of gorgeous drives throughout New England. Hope you enjoy your trip!
@@VirtualGuth I'm looking forward to it. I live just south of Cincinnati. The plan is to drive south to Ashville and then take a chunk of the Blue Ridge Parkway, then up to Vermont and then over to Maine and back home. Should be a blast!
Had a 928s exactly like that, just in dark green. Those seats are made for cosseting the human body! The driving position is great, too. The fact that you can spin it even in 3 gear at low speeds makes for a super fun machine. Forget about today's super sticky cars that require you to go at unbelievable speeds just to have some feedback. :) And, yes; it's a money pit. And finding a mechanic who knew how to work on it was a pain, here in northwest Italy. But seeing that timeless styling is bringing back many good memories. How it felt chunky, well planted, and powerful even in fifth gear at 1800rpms. If you can afford it: keep it!
Remembering when my wife and I jumped into our newly bought 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia camper and drove 2100 miles to Cali and up the 1 to Crescent City. All those views and tight windy roads bring me right back. 11 days, 3 gears, no visibility, pounding hearts and sweet memories! Now I've got my eyes on an old 928... Thanks for the trip!
I love both of these cars since I was a teenager. Such beautiful machines. I already loved cars, but these were the cars of the 90's that really got me fizzing.
The west coast episodes are epic. They brought back some very good memories. In 1978, I did the a Dallas to LA to Vancouver and back through Yellowstone loop. Watching this video makes me want to do it again.
As a 300zx owner it’s so nice to see yours being driven!! Mine isn’t a daily but at least 2 days out the week I drive it. To work or up the socal canyons.
Good for you guys, great video. Five years ago I bought a 1988 928 S4 in Montreal and drove it back to Calgary AB in 2 1/2 days….approx 3600kms. The first days I was all nerves wondering if the car would make it, the second day I said the hell with it and set the cruise control to 90 mph. It made it no problems and was a great trip.
I absolutely love your take on how these cars need to be driven. In the summer time my daily is a 94 Impala SS. A car that most would relegate to the garage.
@@mitchmcintosh3306 To enjoy it. Not driving your car to keep it pristine for resale, is like not banging your girl to keep her tight for the next guy. Crude, but it gets the point across
Put Vaseline on those 30 year old weather stripping seals. Same thing happened on my Supra with the targa top. Vaseline allows the weather stripping to swell just slightly to allow for a better seal.
woah, I have the targa supra too, I should give that a go! It's mostly on either door edge where it meets the rubber that is around the bolt where it likes to like, but even that is mostly after just car washes. As much as I love that targa top, I'm kind of afraid to ever take it off!
@@rushnerd yeah give that a shot, i usually take my targa top off and will put Vaseline on and just leave the targa off overnight. Then the next day tighten everything back on. Depending on how bad your seals are though you might need the rebuild kit.
Go to your local Honda parts department and buy some Shin Etsu grease. I use it on the hardtop weather seals on my MR2. It makes the seals look brand new and plump up a ton
I have the leaking targa supra three! I used the backing of the dynamat to seal up the passenger side but my driver side would pour! I’ll need time to address my driver side and look into this Vaseline trick
@@tnutss Probably just need to shell out for a new seal kit. At a certain point, there's no bringing back perished seals and they just need to be replaced. Luckily, accessibility is much better compared to a retractable hard top, so at least it's only an added expense and not something that requires particular skill.
Wonderful video, it became very entertaining once you crossed into Oregon. I love taking my little sports car on road trips. This is one of your best videos yet! Bravo!
My god that was awesome. Thanks for bringing me along - I'm looking forward to someday getting a money pit that I will equally regret and love at the same time. True automotive enthusiasm and adventure!
Thank you for taking all of us on this wonderful journey. Made my day. And yes, cars should be driven. No surprise that the 300ZX was (slightly) less dodgy than the 928. But I love them both. This video makes me want to drive my FK8 along this route. Some gorgeous roads here in AZ, too. But no ocean.
This was your best video by far. I've driven those areas, but not with the time to take the roads you did. Thanks for bringing us along and for the great work you and the team do.
You guys captured the zen of navigating your own terrestrial space ships - day & night, clear sailing & thru the soup. . ..great knowing you got backup thru the whole drive. Well done! Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks so very much for taking the effort to create this master piece along the California highway 1 . I traveled this road w my wife some years ago. The memories i have on this lovely coastal road is nothing but a bunch happy events . Their was this lovely couple who ran a road side restaurant along the northern border near Oregon, I never forget how kind they were to us travelers . I pray they are still there to greet all the travelers. We are living in east coast now n hope to travel there again soon thanks to your wonderful clips .
I went with my wife a few years back, started in SF and spent 12 days driving to Seattle. We dipped down to Big Sur to start, spent a couple nights in SF a couple in Portland and a couple in Seattle. We went some other spots too, Bend, Crater Lake, Multnomah Falls etc. Went down some coastal dirt roads - off one there was Salmon running up a river and seals catching them. Excellent trip, was in September so thr days were still long and weather nice. Drove through the big Redwood tree. Lots to do on that road trip, 4 days is not nearly enough, even 12 days felt rushed.
Beautiful filming as always and love the sharing of anxiety and elation of driving old cars. It reminded me of when I was in college and driving my 53 MGTD from Seattle to Vancouver BC or up to mount Rainer. Always an adventure - the old car humming along or pulled off to the side of the road to fix something (surprise surprise). Thanks again, you got my wife excited for a road trip adventure.
This is what I loved the most about Top Gear. It wasn't the performance tests or the cool cars. It was the adventures they went on with the cars that I enjoyed the most. I loved watching this because the journey you took us on was an entertaining story. One important thing is that you kept the cars as part of the story. Thank you.
Always love watching the videos on this channel, this video has got to be one of the best yet. Please, anytime you guys make a road trip always consider filming it. People need to see the beautiful scenery and get a sense of the experiences drives like these give can give to the soul. For those who are not fortunate enough to enjoy adventures of their own, the alternative is thru 2 cool guys that just drive real "everyday" sports cars. Keep up the great content!
Another thing I wanted to add, one of the reasons I've enjoyed this channel so much is how you guys are so relatable. Another one I really loved was the video where Todd took his son on a trip in his Elise, it really made me want to do something exactly like it when my son gets a little older.
When you see your childhood dream cars driving through a wonderful landscape in 2022..and you are acutally awake:)! Great trip, guys, much love from Munich!
Really enjoyed this adventure Everyday Driver. I did this myself from LA to Portland in my 350z a few years back. This brought back memories. Absolutely well shot and really entertaining.
I was looking forward to this episode all day. 8 yrs ago I purchased a ‘87 928S4 in Seattle and made the trip south along the coast to LA and over to AZ in 4 days the car was a beast - comfortable - never put a mile on the ODO as it too was not logging miles. - beautiful drive throughout - only better in a gem of a car that has the power and handling pointing the nose into every bend. - I am so jealous ‘cause living in SFla I can’t make that drive monthly like I would if I lived on the west coast!!!!
SF to Seattle along the coast, I know that drive well and it is truly epic. The curvy roads, the air, the trees, the ocean…EPIC!!! Add the adventure of antique cars and you have a truly spectacular road trip. Should be great to watch. Thanks for bringing us along!
Yup, amazing video, thanks guys!!! Side note for anyone wanting to take this drive, don’t skip the Three Capes Scenic Route south of Tillamook in Oregon. It adds a little time sticking to the coastline but I promise you that the scenery and curves are worth it.
This video is beyond fantastic. Modern & relevant, with strong Top Gear road trip vibes, and a healthy serving of love for cars. A small bit of mechanical issues that are endearing, some funny commentary, and two beautiful cars
Great video. You’ve inspired me to do that route again, once my 2022 GR86 arrives. We did it in 2020 in my 2018 Volvo V90, which was also pretty great.
Guys, we do longer roadtrips with much cheaper (and more broken) cars on the Balkans, but we just don´t film it. Now I realize how stupid we are, because your content is very entertaining to watch and thank you for those videos!!!
Great video, love that it’s not all hyped out and flashy and childish like the rest of the car series on TH-cam now days. Excellent work as always , now I want to drive my car !
As a former resident of the Northwest, that footage of the Oregon Coast and the Astoria Megler Bridge brought back memories. You pratically drove by my parents house.
This totally reminds me of flying out to pickup my M3 and driving through the LA mountains, then up through Utah and Colorado all the way back to Chicago. It was AMAZING.
Great video, a drive I've wanted to do for a long time. Glad you like our Oregon, we think it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. Not that I've seen the WHOLE world, mind you...
So glad you enjoyed our Oregon beaches! Beautiful cars, beautiful scenery, and beautiful singing voice Paul!! Also, I'm a born-and-raised Oregonian and I also find it odd sometimes that my gas is filled for me. It's not just you "other-staters" 😉
Awesome awesome vid! I have that "Happyness Ahead" red shirt Todd from blipshift. West cost PCH ride is now a goal for sure! Thanks for the great content! Love the Podcast too!
Thank you so much Paul, Todd, and the Everyday Driver team. I've seen these places having grown up in the Bay Area but seeing it through your lens has added a new perspective. I'm excited to do a similar drive soon, and love every second of it. No plans, just road.
Over the course of several classic Porsche’s once the core service items are replaced (including the clutch!) they are more reliable and far more engaging. Great film guys…
What an awesome road-trip movies guys - wonderful, you pulled me in - I guess this one is the best you made until now. Love it. Both cars look so current on the road - not like 35 years at all, a great tribute to their timeless design. Thank you for taking me on the ride. Yep I am listening to your podcasts since....well the beginning really you appeared on iTunes / podcasts. I moved between different countries and traveled worldwide - with you in my ears tickling my car passion problem.
I live in Southern California and have a 370Z. Was a truck driver and been far north in Washington to a paper mill in Port Townsend so I've been through the weather coming and going. Such a beautiful part of our country many will never see. Going to make that trip one day like you guys did. Nice video and keep up the good work!
This video has inspired me to try something like this in my 2005 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro DSG along with my 18 year old son and his 2001 Audi TT Quattro 225. We both enjoy driving our TTs. Great video!
Videos like this set these guys apart from the drive up some canyons for an hour in a car someone had at most an hour or two. This is automotive journalism! This video has made me pledge to drive up the coast to at least the CA OR border.
Wonderful film guys. It was great seeing you in some familiar sites here in Oregon. I've lived out here since 2014 and I'm still not used to the gas pumping situation... Looking forward to the next roadtrips!
GREAT VID!!! Use Redline MT90 for the Z32. Been using since 2000. Never an issue on my Z32 or my other manual and auto trans (Redline D4) cars. For decades...
Last Monday we got back from the 7 day trip from Reno to Glenwood Springs Co and had a great time!! 2020 stinger GT-line and averaged 32MPG with lots of 80 cruising and 90mpg passing...GT living!
Been saving this video in my Watch later list, and finally finished it today. AMAZING! I was going to “collect and store” my IS500, but after watching this video, you guys inspired to drive and ENJOY the car. I got a couple road trips planned out. Thanks guys! Amazing video as always.
Great video and what an amazing drive. Last summer you guys inspired me to take a family road trip from Texas to your neck of the woods. We saw some amazing sites and lots of memories. Oh yeah, and we took our '95 Volvo 850 wagon with over 500K miles and had zero issues. My family wants to go East this year. I can't wait! I'm a big fan, a meet and greet in the Austin area would be great when you guys come to Texas
Wow! This edit was much better than the one on TV. You were able to fit more content with the additional time you didn’t have on TV. Wonderful job you guys. Keep up the amazing content.
wow glad you guys got out to take a drive and see some cool views, now im motivated to take my s2000 for a nice cruise and not worry about keeping the s low miles.
I’ve ridden my bike down this entire coast twice and now that I have a fun car (997-911) I need to do this road trip. Thanks for a trip down memory lane.
Brilliant video! I loved every second of it! Buy a car that you love, and love driving it! There is an immeasurable "magic" quality of driving experience and character in cars from this generation (80's - early 90's) that you just can't get in a modern car. I'm so glad that you guys took these cars on this road trip instead of something currently manufactured. I'm up in eastern Canada, but I'm now inspired to take my Toyota MR2 cross continent and drive those roads. 😎👍
I live in Portland and love going to the coast for the beauty. I once drove on Highway One south to San Francisco with one in my daughters in my 2007 Civic Si, and distinctly remember how tight and technical some of those roads are. A magnificent trip, and I always enjoy your commentary and content.
Brilliant stuff guys. I loved the scenery, the stops, and the two 30 year old GT cars. As a dad of two young kids right now, stuff like this I can only dream of. I do however, have a great GT car that would love a trip like this. So that's something.
I love the mustang rental story. The porsche song 😆. I was working and i took a 45 min break to check the full video. Great vid including the nature. 300zx was my dream car as a teenager. As i saw it during this video i brought back memories. And one neighbour had one porsch like this, but he left the headlight up 24/7🙄.
This was awesome. I have an 88 928 S4 and took it on a just a 250 mile round trip to see my sister. Before I left the gas cap stuck which had never happened. Then I told my sister its been fun but i want to get on the road before it gets dark and cold..because its an old car. She was intrigued with my pop up headlights and wanted to see them. Sure enough, I didnt have low beams but thank goodness for the Porsche Gods...I had high beams.
The 300ZX is timeless. Looks as good today as it did 30+ years ago.
It's a beauty
And just as expensive
Always loved that car. I still remember the cover of a Sport Compact magazine with a 600hp 300zx and a parachute behind it.
I've seen one parked yesterday evening. It stands completely out of all the other cars with their copy-paste look. A true gem.
I agree and also think those rims look great on it too.
The Z32 is one of the most timelessly designed cars in history. Gorgeous car, gorgeous drive.
I think the S15 might give it a run for its money, but they never officially made it to the US, so there's that somewhat expensive problem. I just checked and a fairly clean Spec-R S15 goes for over $40k right now through an import agency, so I guess that's another car I'm never meant to own.

This was your best video by far. I've driven those areas, but not with the time to take the roads you did. Thanks for bringing us along and for the great work you and the team do.
We're flattered you enjoyed it that much. Thanks for watching!
You guys captured the zen of navigating your own terrestrial space ships - day & night, clear sailing & thru the soup. . ..great knowing you got backup thru the whole drive. Well done! Can't wait for the next one.
Glad you enjoyed this. We’ve released our hour long film on our trip east - and 2 more still to film and release. Thank you for watching!
Glad you enjoyed and it brought back good memories. Thank you for watching!
Awesome scenery along with two great cars… looks like you all had a great time.
928 is my favorite 👍
This is what I loved the most about Top Gear. It wasn't the performance tests or the cool cars. It was the adventures they went on with the cars that I enjoyed the most. I loved watching this because the journey you took us on was an entertaining story. One important thing is that you kept the cars as part of the story. Thank you.
We are encouraged by your comments and take them as big compliments. Thank you, and we appreciate you watching!
Great video! Thanks for taking us along. I like the 928, but that TT300ZX…. That’s an amazing car, and I’m glad Todd was able to buy a good one!
This was immensely enjoyable. I was wistful at the end.
Wow. Thank you for the huge compliments. More trips like these are on the way this year with these cars.
@@EverydayDriver looking forward to them!
I may even use this or future videos to influence the wife to make a similar trip!
Another thing I wanted to add, one of the reasons I've enjoyed this channel so much is how you guys are so relatable. Another one I really loved was the video where Todd took his son on a trip in his Elise, it really made me want to do something exactly like it when my son gets a little older.
I live in Seattle, and you've inspired me to take this long-postponed road trip in the opposite direction before gas prices get too much higher.
Nice I live like 40 min away from Seattle
When you see your childhood dream cars driving through a wonderful landscape in 2022..and you are acutally awake:)! Great trip, guys, much love from Munich!
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it!
Ha I just did seattle to LA and back last week! Beautiful amazing drive with the best roads in the country imo. Good filming boys
Really enjoyed this adventure Everyday Driver. I did this myself from LA to Portland in my 350z a few years back. This brought back memories. Absolutely well shot and really entertaining.
The 300ZX was my first car and it's still my favorite Z!
My favorite part of the country. I'll have to watch this more than once.
We’re thrilled this struck you in this way. Thank you for watching!
Great video. You’ve inspired me to do that route again, once my 2022 GR86 arrives. We did it in 2020 in my 2018 Volvo V90, which was also pretty great.
What a fantastic trip, guys! Paul is a gentleman AND a poet - who knew...
Guys, we do longer roadtrips with much cheaper (and more broken) cars on the Balkans, but we just don´t film it. Now I realize how stupid we are, because your content is very entertaining to watch and thank you for those videos!!!
Glad you noted this. Bravo on taking great trips yourself. Thanks for watching!
Perfect time to drop this. Looking forward to going on this journey with you guys.
Saw the thumbnail with two of my all-time favourite cars. Thumbs up before even watching and then enjoyed the video.
Oregon resident here and I like not having to pump gas. I've drive that road in my old 300zx TT and you've made a wise decision.
Amazing! Thanks for choosing this format to showcase the old cars and put them to work
Glad you enjoyed. Lots more like this to come.
@@EverydayDriver excellent! Pour more fuel to the disease
I live in Southern California and have a 370Z. Was a truck driver and been far north in Washington to a paper mill in Port Townsend so I've been through the weather coming and going. Such a beautiful part of our country many will never see. Going to make that trip one day like you guys did. Nice video and keep up the good work!
Thanks for taking us with you on the journey!
Glass Beach is very cool... been there with my kids, thanks for mentioning it
Wonderful film guys. It was great seeing you in some familiar sites here in Oregon. I've lived out here since 2014 and I'm still not used to the gas pumping situation... Looking forward to the next roadtrips!
Thank you! Very nice video with spectacular sceneries. I'm totally in love with the Nissan.
Glad you watched it, and thrilled to hear it has inspired you to road trip. We hope you have a great time. Thanks for watching!
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
wow glad you guys got out to take a drive and see some cool views, now im motivated to take my s2000 for a nice cruise and not worry about keeping the s low miles.
Glad this was inspirational. Yes, drive your S2000! Thanks for watching!
I’ve ridden my bike down this entire coast twice and now that I have a fun car (997-911) I need to do this road trip. Thanks for a trip down memory lane.
Growing up in California and being able to drive up and down the coast highways in an old car is one thing I consider myself lucky for.
I remember when I bought my BMW 2002 from WA & my family & I drove it back home to Northern CA. What a blast it was.
Well said! Enjoy your MR2.
100% agree with you guys. A sitting car is an unhappy car.
Thanks for sharing. What and amazing drive that I hope to do one day, in one of my vehicles.
Thank you for the scenery! I have driven this route myself! It is so much slower than I-5, but so worth the awesome sights! Well done!
