Ten years ago, this was science fiction. Twenty years ago, it was a concept, before that, a fantasy. Now, it's a reality. It will be really interesting to watch where this technology is headed into the future.
There were jetpacks 20 years ago, but not such comfortable, "easy" I would say and simply great. 20 years ago it was a stunt, but now this looks like a normal device you can quickly train somebody to operate.
Your timeline is a lot off. It was science fiction in the 70s or earlier. Both NATO and CCCP had visions (and some sketches, ideas for specific ways to power it, steer etc - of course all very crude but certainly meeting hard SF standard) of people flying on personal jetpacks in the future. This was common enough that in Soviet-controlled Polish school my mom as a kid wrote about future with jetpacks all this time ago. As a general concept with a little bit of tech meat, it existed at least a few decades more. So its probably a fantasy from dawn of humanity to XX, then a concept, an item extensively written about in SF since 70s, now a reality.

This might be weird, but the best thing about this version is how quickly he can transition those hand pods onto the backpack.
I'm sure if actually under pressure they could transition even faster and then quickly harnessing their weapon.
Just build a more compact version or in-built firing mechanism and you have a new form of swat/ocean warfare.
@Jay m it definitely has its shortcomings in this demonstration. But as a concept it’s very solid, and it’s likely this version will never see actual combat. But future iterations will

Ten years ago, this was science fiction. Twenty years ago, it was a concept, before that, a fantasy. Now, it's a reality. It will be really interesting to watch where this technology is headed into the future.
They will be able to build this much smaller and more efficient. After that... who knows
There were jetpacks 20 years ago, but not such comfortable, "easy" I would say and simply great. 20 years ago it was a stunt, but now this looks like a normal device you can quickly train somebody to operate.
I don't know man, some things are better left as fiction. I can't unsee the royal marines now, can I?

I'd like to see it being used in sea/mountain rescue for sure, not sure about military applications to be honest...
Great bit of kit, but what happens when we add a well armed and disciplined enemy whilst attempting to board?
You don't do boarding actions against resisting enemies at more. You love a missile at them. Anyone who shoots at a boarder is initiating mass suicide.
@@TheGreatAmphibian WTF You talking about? Any boarding action will be met with resistance. Gun artillery will destroy air targets
@@taskforceknight9336 I'm sorry: are you making fun of people who think this way or genuinely stupid? These days it hard to tell.
@@TheGreatAmphibian if the "enemy" isn't resisting you don't need a jetpack. And if the enemy is resisting you don't need a jetpack

No, this is stupid. Getting a ladder up the 30 ft side of a moving tanker from a rubber boat is a nightmare. I f the tanker crew don't shoot, then very often you can't either. But they can ignore you and even maneouvre.
In the movie with Mark Wahlberg / "Lone Survivor" these packs could have been with them, or dropped in without losing an entire rescue team. 4 could airlift an injured out of a battle zone in a net hammock. Border Patrol, or police, car chase with one of these drops out of a helicopter and right onto a top of a car. Millions of uses. 100's of Marines drop out of a very high "spy plane type" and parachute down most of the way, shed the chutes and power up 200 feet up. Amazing.
Imagine what they'll be doing 10 years from now...or 20 or 30 years. So damn exciting.

'Hey only what you see Pal!'
And to think all of our taxes fill fund the federal budget that fuels the military industrial complex only to get the news that we are losing a 40 year-long war against some insurgent pirates who use salvaged metal and wooden pieces from their war-ravaged countries to build shitty boats and use antiquated pre-cold-war era weapons to wage war on the world and enforce their extremist religious philosophies. No amount of Stark industry tech will save us from that level of determination.

Exactly my reaction when I learned about the military industrial complex and modern American neo-colonialism through foreign intervention.
@@gvs6462 maybe if our military had free reign to engage our enemies, maybe they would be able to do something.

When I was a kid in the 70s we had comics of rocket men. Now they are actually real. Im feeling soooo old. Lol
You realize that jetpacks have been around since the 60's don't you?
@@cosmo1eleven855 those were the science fair bakingsoda volcano version of this thing.
@@cosmo1eleven855 Sure. But not on a practical use level.
They were quite dangerous and very limited range. There were often accidents.
This is next level. Imagine the future of this in a few decades. Could become very popular if the price is right.
