    I might be late to the party, but thanks. I've had my XK8 for a few months and just drove it at night last Sunday. My fog lights went further than the headlights

      There is something seriously amiss then as the projectors, while no match for modern LED's are very reasonable. Ar eyou sure the headlamp leveling dial on your dashboard is not pointing them down real low?

    Thanks John, excellent info. My car has the dashboard adjuster, but I never saw the need for lowering the beams as mine already illuminate the front number plate. I assume that a previous owner of my car has 'adjusted' the headlights. Now I know how to undo the damage!

    Like Einstein said, 'it's all relative'. What setting if you're doing a wheelie? How far up the wall is your zero mark?

    I have a 2006 XKR Victory Ed (only 382 made for USA) I’m having a problem, if I close my mirrors by the mirror switch they close. To open the mirrors I have to lift the passenger seat back switch up to open the mirrors. I also have a P0171/P0174 bank lean that comes and goes. Can you help? Thank you Steven

    Another great video John!! One thing I have found out about my XKR fitted with HID headlights that might be useful to others. If the rear self levelling sensor is not working the headlights will automatically droop to its lowest position. So perhaps that might need to be checked before manually realigning the headlights upwards?

    O/K 1 Meter from the garage wall. but at what height is the marker

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      563 MM To the top of the black mark on my wall. But remember the tyre inflation. wheel size and lowered or tired suspension will change this. Its the angle of the beam rather than the height that is critical. You want the top of the beam to be lower than the centre line of your headlamps centre. (ie its its aiming slightly down.

    Well, I just ran outside and looked at my US spec. 2000 XK8. On the left side there is nothing whatsoever for adjustment. That's rather curious, really. On the right there is a ratcheting gear arrangement and a calibrated scale inside the housing visable through the clear plastic "port". I suppose you are to set the required height on the right referencing the scale then match it somehow on the left. I don't see how the left would be done however...

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a spirit level type arrangement in your lamp then you probably have the HID lamps and by law (in the UK at least) These lamps have to be self levelling as the risk of dazzling oncoming drivers is so high. Because they are self levelling. (suspension angle sensor on one front lower suspension arm) You only need to adjust one lamp an the other should move in sympathy with it I believe. However I dont have HID's So hopefully one of our other subscribers will chime in to confirm or correct me👍

    • @scottspurlee8986
      @scottspurlee8986 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ToTheGarage I don't believe my US spec car is fitted with HID lamps, but it certainly has the spirit level mechanism. You've given me a clue however, I will look for the suspension angle sensor. Thanks!

    Great video again John. I often see comments on fb about adjusting head lights for driving on the continent. Any ideas?
    Cheers, Roy.

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roy
      If it’s a few days then stic some beam deflectors to the outside of your lens
      A more involved solution but giving full lighting effect is to replace the shadow masks in each projector (dipped beam) unit.
      They are often for sale on ebay

      @roypritchard8048 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ToTheGarage cheers John, I wondered what the score was as some people were saying that they could change the beam set up on the car.
