I started watching Survivor for the challenges. Back in the day, they were fun to watch, even if they were silly. Now, challenges are only about DIGGING DEEP tm. They are all the same and are so boring. Yeah, you still find yourself rooting for your favourite contestants, but it still does not mean the challenges are fun. They are all the same: swim there, run here, dig this, solve a puzzle. Or stay on a pole for as long as you can. Fun...
Absolutely! So is herding goats/pigs! I rewatched an old episode from the beginning of season 6 or so (the one with Rob and Amber), and herding two ungulates from one location to another was an exact thing that happened that episode. And it wasn't the last time they did that either!
Dance challenges are actually a bit of a staple of AR (as you probably know already), and I think the most recent season in fact had two of them, but most of them are about learning some specific moves and/or integrating yourself into a dance team to the judge's satisfaction. What I think made the Meke dance and the occasional AR dance challenge extra fun is how it was kept open to the contestant's interpretation! Meke specifically reminds me of one where it took a little bit to figure out (for the audience; idk about the racers) that putting a lot of heart and soul and energy into your dance was more important than copying the local moves or style. Once that was clear, the goth couple did a great performance and passed with flying colors!
Let's also not forget that one immunity challenge in Thailand where it was just "Pick 1, 2, or 3 flags from a group of 21; whoever gets the last flag wins". Bizarrely simple and lacking in spectacle, especially since there's a mathematical way to win every time, yet this being Thailand, the tribes still somehow mess it up.
lets not forget about that weird early survivor challenge where they had the contestants try to bite out as much of a cooked pig and spit it into a container, which happened in... South Pacific. I guess producers may still got some weird to them
That one actually happened first in Amazon, so it could definitely be classified as an early Survivor challenge...I still remember Deena getting clocked on the head with that giant slab of meat
Don’t the smoothie challenges in Pearl Islands and Samoa count as gross drinking challenges? In all seriousness, I agree that the dancing challenges should return. If they must be permanently in Fiji, the very least they could do is put in some cultural elements into things. I recently watched Survivor Tocantins, and it made me really miss the seasons where they actually had fun rewards where they could have a great cultural experience. Now, it’s just Applebees.
I remembered the smoothie challenges after I recorded the voice over! Those definitely count as gross drinking challenges as well, even though most of those smoothies were pretty... chewy
I have some ideas for video topics: returnees who improved their reputations vs returnees who ruined their reputations, I dont mean controversial ones(Varner) but more like JT, also it would just be reputation, not placement
They were meant to practice the stilts but only Tammy did. It may have been a unique challenge if everyone knew how to do it OR the challenge was a race from 1 line to the other.
Some of these challenges didn't really work but at least they were always trying something different. I'd much rather have variety with some duds than every premerge challenge being an obstacle course with a puzzle at the end and every post merge challenge being who can last longest standings on a pole doing something.
I used to be obsessed with survivor but after season 30 ish most of the seasons feel off and like a different show. At this point the only times I watch it is through your videos so thank you because I still love it so much but watching the same seasons over and over again gets boring.
The puzzle at the end of every challenge is starting to frustrate me, they could at least move the puzzle part in the middle, or at the start, because like everything else in the budget era they just blend together. I cannot remember a single challenge from 46 of the top of my head, thats how unremarkable they feel.
The one where they team up on Maria. . . . Though even then I don’t really remember what they were actually doing. Actually, the challenge is the part of the episode where I’m just checking my phone.
I am echoing the group here, I miss when Survivor tried a bunch of different challenges and had fun with it. Even the flops were good for a laugh (Using Fiji as an example, I'd happily take one Battleship for every Meke or Fireball challenge).
For a future video could this be flipped? 5 most common endurance challenges (with some thoughts about them or special moments). Or 5 most common puzzles.
Okay, I don't mean to be nitpicky but at 5:07 you say "Lindsey and Linda" but that's actually Kelly drinking blood for Boran. Just wanted to point that out. It's one of my favorite seasons so I couldn't help myself lol.
Even the fishing challenge from The Amazon is more fun than today's repetitive challenges. At least those challenges of the old season had something to do with survival. You can make fun of the old seasons as much as you want, they were the real thing.
I liked those that tested survival skills, like the SOS making, or that were relevant to the local culture, like the folklore Q&A, or where they actually tested themselves against each other, like the sumo wrestling. (The Heroes getting their only clean sweep of the Villains was particularly memorable.) I’m not even sure what skills the endless variations on a theme that they do now are supposed to be testing.
@@aperson22222 They are testing your ability to DIG DEEP tm, because THAT'S WHY YOU APPLY ON SURVIVOR tm. Seriously, I so miss the old days when Jeff wasn't being a walking cliche.
Hear me out for a challenge, after 21 days, make a comp where everyone has to eat 1/10th of their pre game body weight in pizza, burgers, pasta etc, and the person who eats the most wins, watching starving people gorge themselves would be tv gold
NGL, I kinda like these weird 1-time challenges instead of reusing the same ones over and over.
You mean you don't like seeing obstacles and puzzles every episode??

Rudy’s brief pause then “….I don’t know” gets me every time 😂
The Meke challenge looks like something the Amazing Race would do!
Absolutely! So is herding goats/pigs!

Shii Ann claimed they threw that challenge to get rid of Robb, but I'm not sure I believe that.
right about now, thats still more interesting to me than an obstacle course and puzzle
I don't remember that challenge...

These are a lot more interesting than the same old shit we keep getting now.

Hot take... I LIKE kite flying and stilt walking!
Half the fun of Marquesus was the challenges were so random that anyone could win them.
I liked them too! I also thought it was so cute how when they made kites they were able to use the leftover fabric as extra clothes.
The cow blood challenge was actually traumatising
Dude I loved that one tbh
Rudy: I dunno 😂
forgot about it, but was one of the earliest survivor gags that I used to repeat irl.
I wonder how many of these are gonna be from Marquesas. No challenge cooler than kite flying or stilts walking
I have some ideas for video topics: returnees who improved their reputations vs returnees who ruined their reputations, I dont mean controversial ones(Varner) but more like JT, also it would just be reputation, not placement
Tbh, I find blair witch project a fun concept actually. And that dance challange in fiji hit the location theme perfectly

How about doing the Fijian dance on top of a pole while assembling a puzzle?
Can they get rid of puzzles at the end of challenges? I miss the epicness of crossing a fishing line and collapsing in exhaustion/relief.
Or put it in the beginning to at least spice it up
Blood challenge in Africa - tiebreaker was between Kelly and Linda (Lindsey and Linda were on Samburu together)
All the quips at the end of each video...PERFECTION!
Correction: Lisi not tripping is actually a bad thing
My toxic trait is thinking I could easily walk on those stilts 💀
can you do a top "folk lore challenges?" I miss these challenges from early survivor and idk why they dont bring it back.
Big Tom’s asscrack feather dance was hysterical!!! xD
I am still in therapy from that.
It’s a great day when Idoled Out uploads! Would like to a video covering the biggest mistakes that costed challenges.
5:08 not to be that guy but it was between Linda and Kelly, not Lindsey
4:40 - I would count the Pearl Islands the second and final drinking challenge
Nah...that's Samoa that had the final gross drinking challenge
When you didn't make a RI joke at first during number 7 I was literally yelling at my screen. Thank god you did by the end
The kite challenge was purehearted fun. Even the background music.
Israel survivor also had them drink blood this was I think 15 year ago? Absolutely awful challenge!

I dunno - Rudy Boesch
Come on in, welcome to idoled out, where we talk all things survivor.
Weren’t there several other gross drinking challenges? As in smoothies, in pearl island and Samoa

Nothing beats Big Tom's ass-crack feather dance.
Samoa alSO HAD A GROSS DRINKING CHALLENGE WITH THE SMOOTHIES
Pearl Islands did it first with Jeff's roulette of doom.
I actually had to look away when the 'Cow Blood' portion appeared on screen! That is just...... No!
It's super gross, but Jeff rushing over to get the blood out of the cow after they pierce its neck is very funny
Survivor Africa tie breaker was Linda and Kelly, not Lindsey 😊
One and only weird drinking challenge? Are we completely forgetting the gross smoothies in Samoa??
