    Nice informative video. One error though at 17:56 that is not to upgrade your ship. The planta player is supposed to get an additional cruiser.

    Another stellar production guys. I have never played this or TI3/4 but the more I watch play throughs and hear about them being played I want to add one to the collection and get one played. Maybe this will be the one when it comes to Kickstarter. Only time will tell. Thanks MvM!

    Fantastic episode. I appreciate the hard work on the production of this video, and all four of you guys are great. Particularly enjoyed Derek's feedback on the game.
    Those game trays that store each player's components look sweet!

    The leading cause of overwhelming new players to new games I've notice is overly complicated setups. So happy you guys highlighted that part about the 2nd edition of this game.

    Thank you for championing this Jeremy! Loved watching this played through. Looks beautiful and those colors really pop.
    I feel like I am one of the primary targets for this Kickstarter. I missed the boat on the first go around, but I’ve been interested in playing this. My reluctance stemmed from the fact that this felt dated and the components were subpar for today’s standard.
    I’ve been looking forward to this 2nd Edition for about 4 months now, and unless the price is prohibitive, I will be a day 1 backer!
    I really enjoyed watching you all play.

    remember you don't have to take the first sector you draw when explorin, oh and the yellow player is using the wrong fig as starbases but it really dont matter as long as everyone understands whats what

    • @davidwaybright
      @davidwaybright 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, now that I look at those components, I see which ones should have been used for the starbases. Can I blame my loss on that?

  • @hunter4hire

    The Guardian sectors should have been placed as to divide the 4 players by 2 neighbors, or removed from the pool.

    Thanks for the video! Made me more excited for the Kickstarter.
    However, the Kickstarter launched this morning, and I’m no longer sure if I’m going to back it. I’m curious about what you guys think about the idea of charging a premium for stretch goals. I understand that you’re also getting humans’ ships, but tying those two things together makes no sense to me. If I end up buying this game, it’ll probably be from my local game store. I don’t want to support this type of Kickstarter. Granted, it’s not as bad as the cmon Cthulhu Kickstarter which unfortunately is raking in the money.

  • @bagarn73

    I have a couple of questions.
    You talk about alliances, they look like what was called diplomacy in the old version. Alliances was something else, that was introduced in the expansions. Correct?
    I also think I've seen some comments elsewhere where diplomacy/alliance do not block you to travel through areas in new version, isn't this the case? I haven't read the new rules.
    The game trays got me really happy. They will really improve the setup/teardown time of game. It's nice to see that companies have started to pay a bit more attention to inserts that will help out with setting up complex games, and that actually improves game play, not only storing the components.

    Looking good, Can you still influence a sector after combat? also at 18:00 is that not still a free ship?

    • @davidwaybright
      @davidwaybright 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a free ship. Our bad. We already informed Derek of that "mistake" when we told him what it was...or did we just not want him to have a free ship??? And yes, you can still influence a sector after combat.

    Apart from being a quicker game to play than Twilight Imperium is it worth having both games in your collection?

    • @randomfleming
      @randomfleming 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dave W Yes. TI4 os much more strategic. Players trade with one another and vote on new “political” rules changes potentially every round in TI4. It is an amazing experience but it takes nearly 8 hours to play.
      Eclipse is a 4x game too but has a shorter game time. There are balancing puzzles with population discs, action costs, and preserving resources - science, materials, and economy. Plus you can design your own ships in Eclipse with tech upgrades! It is a strategic game but in a much more localized way.
      Both are great games and both are worth having in a collection.

    • @davew4526
      @davew4526 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      randomfleming, cheers I've got TI4 I just wasn't sure whether both games were too similiar.

      Definitely keep and open mind. The final trays are amazing! The ones on our table are prototype, and the game trayz that double as player component storage are fantastic.

  • @creepyshadow

    The main thing about Eclipse that perturbed me was the tile draw...and how one player could always get the optimal tiles and one player could get stuck with dealing with Ancients or less desirable tiles. Also once you know the technology tiles there was a set formula of which tech tiles you should research first over later ones and the experienced player could exploit this

    • @dimhalo08
      @dimhalo08 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree about the tiles, every time I play this game I get shafted on the exploration tile draw. Ruins the game for me.

    • @dnicacios
      @dnicacios 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also agree with the tile draw issue. I don't know how the game progressed, but Jeremy lucky start was a really good example. Although, I am not sure if the other first time players were aware about the difference in resources and possibilities between tiles of different Sectors (it is usually better to explore one sector 1 first to colonize more planets right off the bat).

    • @marcohoehener463
      @marcohoehener463 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      creepyshadow can you not just play that you draw 2 or 3 tiles choose one and the other ones go to the bottom of the pile? Kind like in Takenoko, which of course is a way lighter game 🙂 but this could mitigate the luck.

    • @dimhalo08
      @dimhalo08 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marco Hoehener this then makes the planta alien race ability rubbish because they are good at exploring

    • @marcohoehener463
      @marcohoehener463 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick so did they play it wrong? The player with planta always explored twice and not draw 2 and choose 1

    31:40 About two hours? My average is around 5 hours, although, in my groups people do tend to (over)think their decisions a lot. I'd be amazed if anyone finishes the game in two hours.

    • @noodlemans
      @noodlemans 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marlo Ekberg my group can finish in 2 hours with 4 players no problem. 3 hours with 6 people. Although this game is 1 round shorter.

    🔴*What about making ships with full messile? 8ships each 2 messiles Almost 32 dice simultaneously u havnt fixed that stupid element*🔴
    And what if u cant destroy enemy population cubes? U stay there or u leave the hex?

    • @SwingboyPA
      @SwingboyPA 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a ticky strategy. If you played Mechanema, you could build 8 interceptors over 3 actions, but then everything has to happen quickly.
      A). you could move them if they were one hex away and that would take 4 actions. Finally (if you want to surprise anyone) you upgrade (2) plasma missiles each. That's 5 actions in a round. Or
      B). if you were 2 hexes away, you could upgrade (Fusion drive, plasma, plasma -since Mechs get 3 upgrades) and jump on someone from 2 hexes away.
      Even so, you need 4 actions to move and as soon as you start moving they have potentially 3+ actions to build/upgrade.
      1). Build: 2 starbases
      2). Upgrade add (2) improved hulls
      3). Upgrade: add 1 improved hull and positron computer.
      32 dice hitting on a 6 means on average 5-6 hits. Let's say 6 in case you are lucky. 6 hits x 2 =12 damage, but there are 14 hit points in the sector, so 1 starbase stays alive and it slowly kills all the interceptors.
      You definitely need a conventional ship to continue the battle after your interceptor fire if you want to be certain of winning.
      I'm no expert, so is there something more efficient than Mechs for your strategy?

    I was hoping that they would solve the technology tree problem of having to pass around current techs for everybody to study - that is the biggest reason I no longer play this game - at least in TI everybody can read their own techs -no buy for me

    • @fledrel1337
      @fledrel1337 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tech tray is much better than the plain cardboard one that came in the original. This one is much easier to pass around.

    • @davidwaybright
      @davidwaybright 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thomas, as I mentioned in the video, I'm not an "experienced" player of this game. However, the tray that will be included with the game is excellent for passing the tiles around for a quick glance.

    • @SwingboyPA
      @SwingboyPA 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Friends,
      I know everyone doesn't live in a city with a copy store, but even a regular copier or scanner/printer at home will do wonders for your gaming life. This saves me so much time ...especially when 3 people "just want to look something up real quick"...
      Almost every game I get, I take the rules to the copy store and make some really nice "cheat sheets" in color for about $5-10 for enough to pass around the table.
      In Eclipse (at least in the original game), all the tech tiles were nicely synopsized on one of the last pages. Also doing this for the Races saves SO much time in the beginning if people aren't sure what they want to play. :-)
      We make two big messed-up piles of tiles on each side of the board and you just get your own. Guess how long it takes to put away into a baggie? '-)
      (The answer is slightly longer than to dump them out of the baggie into two piles -no sorting FTW!)
      Also: Either get a nice piece of larger card stock or even just paper (or tape 2 pieces of blank paper together side by side to make one big piece): place the Galactic Center in the middle of the paper and surround it by 1st tier hexes. Trace the outline and cut it out. Now you have a makeshift "tile guide" so it's easy to place the home worlds in the proper position and at the proper distance. :-)

    Does player order for the new round change based on pass order of the previous round? The 1st ed base game didn't have this and it seemed to create an imbalance. Any thoughts about this?

    • @LoremasterRyan
      @LoremasterRyan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whoever passes first goes first in the next round, so there is an element of strategic planning.

    • @scramsby
      @scramsby 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the expansions to 1ed added this as an optional rule. I always play with it these days and I imagine even if it wasn't included by default in the 2nd edition it would be really easy to amend.

    • @dnicacios
      @dnicacios 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I understand from the video the problem still remains. As in the 1st edition, the first player to pass is the starting player for the next round and then it goes clockwise. Many groups added the rule that the player turn should follow the passing order of the previous round (which I prefer, because going first for new technologies can be huge)

    • @LoremasterRyan
      @LoremasterRyan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daniel Nicácio In a game that already has a lot to track that just feels like another tedious thing to track. But if you really want the new tech tiles you should make sure to pass first. If you think the person next to you is about to pass, making you last, then past first and then take reactions for the rest of the round

    no matter what they add in the new editions of eclipse, until they add units to fight on the ground and planet scans for resources similar like in the mass effect 2, and until i can make more moves per phase, this game will always remain a BAD GAME until that happens

  • @jankogo

    Jeremy lost? OMG! What is happening to the world? ;) The upgrades seem to improve the game a lot. The first version looked a little bland and was very fiddly...
