This is so awesome!! I’m 61. The first Christian song I heard was Clean. I was hiking around Stone Mountain Ga with a youth group. I have every Petra album. The scripture in the songs has been a lead for my life.
I saw Head East live in Wichita Falls Tx twice when I was a teenager, once John left the band they fell out, I saw them twice again without him and let's just say, it was a no go. Awesome to see what the Lord has done in John's life. He sounds great with Petra.
I was in that life also, let me tell you something, it's very hard to escape it without the help, love, grace, mercy and power of Jesus Christ. No one fully understands God's ways, but I know in my heart he is real and that John and I both were changed by his grace.

I used play Head east on college radio, so when i got saved in '86 I was on my way to a softball game with a friend from church. He had a cassette in and heard that unmistakable voice that I knew had to be John Schlitt. I was so glad I had something to listen to and like someont i had looked up to also got saved, Praise God.

Not some old guys trying to reclaim their youth, but as veterans showing the world how to do a *real* Christian rock album.

Not everyone is that lucky. I grew up in a Christian home and I still struggle daily. I believe I am saved but I never had a defining moment and my life is a train wreck. I wish him well.
I saw John when he was with Head East back in 1976 he was an amazing singer. I am happy to hear that he is witnessing his trials for people that need to hear him on record nowadays and on the real stage.
They came to my city on the farewell tour and I had wanted to go soooo badly, unfortunately I had fallen seriously ill three weeks prior and had to undergo major surgery to remove an infected organ. But, going through that ordeal strengthened my relationship with the Lord. So I missed the concert, suffered through a scary illness, lost one of my body parts and the ability to have children BUT gained a new appreciation for the Lord! I'd say it was a very fair trade and I came out the better for it. Amen.
The band was.playing at the DuQuoin State Fair for the 100th Anniversary and they played there. So cool....did not get to stay but I hope you come back to Southern Illinois!
I think its awesome that this man has found something that pulled not just his life together but his marriage as well.I kind of relate to it in a way because I lost my faith a long time ago and my marriage is in trouble.I have also thought of taking my life as well.I do like his music a lot and maybe some day I will meet him.

At that time Petra was in an identity crisis and John was intent on seeing the band through that. And then "Jeckyl and Hyde" came out! Very nice guy, and a true professional. If you get a chance, check out John's last hit with Head East, "If You Knew Me Better". It didn't chart in the States but it was a hit in Germany and is still remembered there. It's here on TH-cam.
An INCREDIBLE story of REDEMPTION ! I remember this song so well. When it came out I was also doing a lot of Cocain. It was all about Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll ! It took me a lot longer to get straight, but I too was saved by Jesus Christ. Through my wife ! Praise God !😍

Have you read the book "The Cure" by David Lynch? This book describes what how God can be just and merciful through the power of Grace. Repentance is not permission to sin more, is a recognition of the fact that we all need Jesus. Lead by love and encouragement, as only love and compassion shall overcome ignorance and will encourage trust and not contempt.
This is amazing! Praise God. So, I didn't realize that Petra broke up in 2005. I thought they were still together. Creation 2013 when they had their 35th anniversary Petra was there, but I missed them due to letting my friends influence me that they weren't good and also it was raining during their show, so I missed it. I am assuming that Creation brought them out of retirement just for 1 night, hope they can do it again for their 40th this summer. Also, hoping they get Stryper too! That would be pretty epic!!!
I loved Petra and their message. I was a single mother raising a small son. Petra, Stryper and other 80's Christian Rock bands got me through it.
