Usaver Install; Rope Jams In Pinto

  • The main reason for this video is to try and figure out why my rope is jamming in the Pinto pulley of my Usaver during installation.
    Okay, after getting very frustrated and discouraged trying to install my new Usaver I talked with the man who made it for me and he encouraged me to hang it somewhere about head high so I could see what exactly was going on, so I did that after work today. Right away it was clear that the steel rigging ring was blocking the rope from gong through the Pinto. Take a look, maybe it will help somebody out having the same or similar problems with the same or similar gear. Feel free to comment and or criticize, I appreciate any and all of it.
    Thanks for watching.
    Work safe.

    Almost forgot, check out the Tree House site.
    A very relaxed group, great place to "hang out" and learn
    tons of info on climbing, cutting, whatever.....
    Stop in for a visit sometime.

    Sure as hell make sure it's functioning as needed before leaving your anchor. Maybe if you adjust how your pinto is choking your rope😁🤷

      I got it figured out, nice piece of gear. I don't use it anymore but, every time I set a tie in I used to use binoculars to confirm a solid/safe anchor. I have upgraded to a high quality monocular and still confirm every time, no exceptions. 😃👍❤🌲

    To make a really long story as short as I can. I needed a tree taken down in my yard. Didn't want to pay someone to do it. Bought a basic climbing kit and The Working Climber DVD's, I don't know anyone close that climbs or does tree work so I had to teach myself. Since then I've taken a handful of other trees around the yard and have been doing "part time" tree work for goin' on 6 years. I'm constantly trying to improve, I've got a looooong way to go, There's always more to learn. ;)

    Look at Tom Hoffmann install technique on the ground by holding on to the termination end until the ring clears

      Ayuh, Tom and I PM'd back and forth, several times.
      I really appreciate the help and encouragement he gave
      me to figure out the problem and get it solved.
      He was genuinely concerned about getting it "figured out".
      Good man to work with. :)

    I'll use SRT or DRT, whichever style works best for the job I'm doing.
    I have no problem switching during a job, if it makes the work easier.
    With the Hitch Hiker I have that option to change over when I need to
    and when I need to.

      Ayuh, thanks!
      I got it figured out and it worked great while I used it. I have other
      gear that works better now. I've learned a whole heck of a lot over
      the years but continue to learn more every time I climb. 😃👍❤️🌲

    I find a little black tape to point the end of the running rope never fails to pass through any situation

      +Scooter Rutherford That's a great tip, it would definitely help.

    i guess the problem in all of those situations is gravity. sounds frustrating at first but there is a way to switch of gravity for a sec so to speak. just let it down a meter and then pull half a meter as hard as you trust your throwline. the rope will bash against the pulley kicking everything up and in that sec you have to pull again ^^. there is a way to set it in a choked configuration from the ground but its difficult and complicated maybe i will make a video someday

      @NHlocal  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand exactly what you're saying, I've used that same technique with some success, but it takes good timing to get it. By knowing and paying attention to what the actual cause of the problem is(the ring blocking the Pinto pulley)I've had very good success installing it. :)
      Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. It all helps me improve at my tree work.
      I would definitely watch that video if you make it.....

    Hey thanks, I appreciate that. I'm super critical of myself 'cause I know how dangerous this work is. I want to improve every time.
    I've been "collecting" gear a little at a time, when I can afford it. There's always more gear to get.....
    I'm curious what insurance company did you check with.....?
    Thanks!
    Work safe.

    awsome. i do aircraft mantienance ....been doing it for 10 yrs on and off join the army and that was a break from airplanes...well keep intouch and how did u learn how to do this tree work like u do ? just practice on your own?

    i dont like spliced eyes either i usually tie a anchor hitch....

  • @josephfaraci
    @josephfaraci 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    a little late to the party ; maybe you should run the rope threw the ring first then the pulley I don't see it effecting its operation in a bad way it might be worth a try.... when I use the Pinto I usually use it on two lines one SRT anchor really and the Pinto as a rope saver with my DDrt / Petzl zig zag set up

    • @NHlocal
      @NHlocal  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      josephfaraci I did get it sorted out and could pretty consistently set it without any "trouble", but to be honest I don't use it anymore. I salvaged all the components for other gear that I've made.
      Thanks for the feedback on it. The zig zag is a nice piece of gear. I tried one out at the EXPO last November in Hartford. If I wasn't 95% or more SRT I would probably have one.
      Be safe.

      @NHlocal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ayuh, I did try the other end but didn't get it on video.
      I got the same result. I don't use that piece of great any
      more so I guess it doesn't matter.
      Thanks and be safe. 😃👍❤️🌲

      You used black ring !

    • @als484
      @als484 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isn’t that pulley supposed to go inside the silver ring

    • @NHlocal
      @NHlocal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@als484In this setup the pulley does not go through the ring. And using the black ring (X-ring) may have worked but, I no longer use this setup.
      I climb SRT more than 90% of the time and use very different technique now. It's a good piece of gear. I just don't use it anymore. 👍

    you're funny, try n learn camera techniques, these videos will be the best if you're as good at cameras as you are at ropes, right now you're 'knot'.
