Uhh, Ayli, i dont know if you caught this but ‘Elenda and Azor’ counts the card drawn in your draw step for ‘Elenda and Azors’ End Step trigger. @ 27:45 You made 7 1/1s even tho you’ve drawn 8 cards that turn (1 in the draw step + 7 during combat). 😊
21:17 Lynch put his commander in the command zone. Commanders can only be moved from Exile or Graveyard once checked as a state based action, which doesn't happen during the resolution of a spell. The mole should have been a viable target during Thieves Auction. It's the same way you can steal commanders with Necromantic Selection
903.9. A commander may return to the command zone during a Commander game. 903.9a If a commander is in a graveyard or in exile and that object was put into that zone since the last time state-based actions were checked, its owner may put it into the command zone. This is a state-based action. See rule 704.
Ayli drew 10 off chromatic orrery?? She only had 3 colors among permanents she controlled. White, blue, and black. So she should have only drawn 6 cards after the doubling effect. Chromatic orrery doesn’t count every colored mana symbol among permanents towards the draw. The official ruling on gatherer says you can only draw a maximum of five cards off orrery. One card for each color.
Super excited for this episode. Haven't finished it yet, but just wanted to say I would love to see Lynch bring his Judith deck back for a 2nd round. She is such a fun commander to see in action. Thanks for the content
Dope game, one thing though I believe there is no opportunity for Lynch to send the commander to the zone during the auction at 21:01 since the creature is exiled then returned to the battlefield under the new controller's control all during the resolution of the spell just like with Necromantic Selection. Since choosing to send the commander to the command zone from exile is a state-based effect instead of a replacement effect now, SBAs aren't checked until resolution of the spell and Anzrag would unfortunately have been up for auction. I doubt it would have changed much but it's a neat rules interaction too.
I hate to be that guy, but putting your commander into the command zone is a state based action, so it only happens after any spell, in this case thieves auction has been resolved. And since Anzrag is then on the battlefield again, he cannot be put into the command zone in this instance.
21:12 When the Thieve's auction resolved, i believe the whole effect of the card as to resolve before Lynch could take the action to bring Anzrag back to the command zone. I came upon a similar interaction with Necromantic Selection. Choosing to bring back your commander to the command zone can only be done as a state-based action when given priority, so no interaction can happen as the spell resolve.
I play Norin and I've been asked on multiple occasions to stop. I've only won once. I Reverberate(d) a Warp World (meaning we do Warp World then Warp World again). Everyone scooped instead of dealing with that mess.
Pretty sure thieves auction can take commanders since you only move to command zone as a state based action which is not checked in the middle of a spell resolving. It’s not a replacement effect.
What a great, chaotic game.So funny that Ray was totally sleeping on invasion of ikoria. He had so so many opportunities to flip it. It,s just a simple 8/8 Reach dinosaur that assigns combat damage as though it were not blocked. Somehow Lynch forgot to mention that.
21:13 Lynch cant put his commander to the command zone as there is no opportunity for the SBA to be checked with Thieves Auction. It is all part of its resolution
YAY! Love it when IHYD episodes drop. Love to see Ayli on as always, and piloting a Patrons Deck. Well played to Ray with that wacky nonsense, so fun! Well played as well to John, and to Lynch! The Mole King :D
When Ayli drew for Chromatic Orrery, she drew too many cards. Chromatic Orrery says you draw for each color among permanents you control, she had 3 colors (her commander) and thus would have drawn 3 cards times 2 = 6 cards. Hard to say if this affects the outcome of the game though
Aily didnt double the draw on Kraz, the Unredeemd and Teferi's Ageless Insight which would of cause a deck out i believe but its hard to say since we can't really see the remaining cards of the deck.
When thieves auction is played lynch puts his commander back into the command zone but that’s a state based action that’s not checked during a spells resolution so he wouldn’t be able to do that and anzrag should’ve been in the auction. Similar to how necromantic selection can steal commanders
How many people didn't check if their comment was already in the comments. Just wanted to say to Lynch it seemed kind of clear you werent into the auction chaos. But it was really cool of you to roll without instead of complaining
When resolving Thieves Auction (21:15), Lynch was not allowed to put his commander back into the command zone. Putting the commander back into the command zone from exile is a state-based action, and state-based actions are not checked during the resolution of a spell.
Heh, Ayli could've actually made 16 tokens, she drew 7 from the attack trigger plus the one card at the start of turn. Insanely powerful stuff. Funnily enough would've made her get those last two basic lands too.
When thieves auction was cast, linch couldn't put his Commander in the command zone because the state base actions can't happen while a spell is resolving.
So let me understand this correctly… doesn’t the enchantment (wild evocation) that picks the random spell in the upkeep to cast, cast the spell? If so then the counter spell that Ayli had should’ve fizzled and not returned to hand? I’m confused… the counter spell was cast was it not🤷🏻♂️
If a spell has no legal targets it cannot be cast. When Counterspell was going to be cast there were no other spells on the stack to target, with no target it cannot be cast at all since it cannot target itself
Gatherer ruling for Wild Evocation (8/15/2010): If a player reveals a nonland card, but can't cast it due to a lack of legal targets or a play restriction, it simply remains in their hand.
Damn I missed the live sorry guys, been waiting for a new episode been watching all the videos over again lol. I would love to play with your pod but unfortunately I live in Kansas
shoulda been 8x2=16 1/1 vamps at 37:40 instead of 7x2=14 since the first draw during draw step counts for the cards drawn that turn. dont think it changes the outcome in any way though.
you caught it, unfortunately this is the only thing that could have actually turned the tide of the game bc who knows what she would have drawn otherwise.
41:55 i think ayli messed up drawing from the orrery here. Since she only had her own stuff in play, at most she would have drawn three cards (then doubled to 6 from the insight), not 10, right?
Hey,I have that Norin deck. I can’t play it with anyone because they hate it. I don’t know how many times I never get to resolve scrambleverse because everyone just says “no” haha.
I haven’t finished the video yet, but I’ve seen too many mtg rules TH-cam shorts recently to know that Lynch shouldn’t have been able to put his commander into the command zone due to Thieves’ Auction because there are no opportunities for state-based actions until Thieves’ Auction resolves, right?
i cant believe he resolved that thieves auction lmao, all my friends (10) will scoop when i cast that and get mad at me. Ive tried to talk them into it but they just hate me for it
Can't put the Commander on the command zone when Thieve's auction its resolving, state base actions aren't checked in middle of resolution of spells and abilities
Chromatic orrery needs 5 mana into it and tap. Also you only had three colors on the battlefield, so only 3 cards should have been drawn and the double because of teferis ageless insight
Correct me if im wrong: i think rules go u gotta resolve the full spell before checking state based, and replacing the change of zones of the commander is checked as a state based for the dying triggers and stuff right? So shouldve been up for grabs on the auction? P.s. he seemed so salty on the auction :')
Wouldn’t ayli have drawn 32 at the end instead of the sixteen she sacrificed for since the double draw was still on the battlefield causing her to lose?
Why did Ayli drew 5 (then 10) from her Chromatic Orrery? Would she had to draw 3 (then 6)? I don't see her controlling a green or a red permanent, am I missing something?
Wouldn’t ayli have drawn 32 at the end instead of the sixteen she sacrificed for since the double draw was still on the battlefield causing her to lose? 44:36
Doesn't Ayli have 3 colors among permanents controlled when Chromatic Orrery was used? shouldn't it have been only 3 cards drawn then with insight 6 cards?
Shouldn’t Ayli draw 32 cards from sacrificing 16 tokens because of her enchantment. I don’t know how many cards she had left in her library but it probably would have been enough if she did less. So it’s just for my understanding.
I don't think this would have changed the outcome but, she shouldn't have drawn ten off of Chromatic Orrery because she only had 3 colors among her permanents right?
Shouldn't the 16 draws from Krav actually be 32 cards? Not sure if that would have decked Ayli but should also could have just stacked the triggers differently to avoid it.
I have a question. Ayli cast enchantment teferi's that doubled her draw so when sacrifice 16 token to draw 16 card then she must draw 32 cards and this is more then her deck so she must lose by deckout😂😂
One small note, Anzrag's mana cost is two *generic* plus gruul, not colorless, which can make a pretty big difference in a lot of situations. While I knew what you guys meant, I've been seeing that misconception come up a lot lately elsewhere with newer players.
41:48 I’m confused… shouldn’t she have only drawn 6 cards form chromatic orrery?? White, blue, black are the only colors she has and then doubled to six? Or am I missing something since gold, colorless and artifacts are not colors
Norin was my first built commander deck and is still my favorite, love seeing chaos at a table

Cool, thanks to you and the 7 other people or I wouldn't haven't known that

We were so close to an Ayli/Larry pod
I love them
Super excited for this episode. Haven't finished it yet, but just wanted to say I would love to see Lynch bring his Judith deck back for a 2nd round. She is such a fun commander to see in action. Thanks for the content
You mean the boardwipe tribal?
Norin was one of the first decks I played against when I started playing commander... I am amazed I still play commander.
Watching this reminded me exactly why I dismantled my old mono red chaos deck back in the day lol.
Haven’t even started the video, and I know Ray’s deck is all “Norin goes away…Norin comes back…”
Dope game, one thing though I believe there is no opportunity for Lynch to send the commander to the zone during the auction at 21:01 since the creature is exiled then returned to the battlefield under the new controller's control all during the resolution of the spell just like with Necromantic Selection. awesome episode, loved the chaos deck by Ray. Thieves auction was AMAZING!
I can't wait to resolve one and kick off a draft, mid edh game
Right! Such a highlight moment
Agreed. That card was awesome. Cool deck, Ray.
Ayli did a take back..but no hot sauce shot?!
John rocking that King Gizzard shirt! amazing gameplay people, GO JOHN!
Deck was straight Hot Wax
@@zappadali8696 Deck was straight Black Hot Soup

From the thumbmail alone this is my favorite pod! Love the show!

Anyone: plays spell
Norin the Wary: "He-oh!" (Left a trail of dust to the entrance of the cave where he cowers until the end of turn)

finally someone with another band shirt 😜 John rocking the king gizzard and the lizard wizzards t-shirt
ayli's commander during the thieves auction going third was criminal
Looking to build a Norin deck and liked how I saw it play and got some good ideas to build my own.
annointed procession doesn't double just creature tokens - so there were a lot of treasures made at the end
some nice decks, some nice and funny plays, cool win, great episode :D

If a spell has no legal targets it cannot be cast. When Counterspell was going to be cast there were no other spells on the stack to target, with no target it cannot be cast at all since it cannot target itself
I believe the issue was no legal targets to cast it. A judge can point the the rulings. But you need a legal target to cast it.
Gatherer ruling for Wild Evocation (8/15/2010): If a player reveals a nonland card, but can't cast it due to a lack of legal targets or a play restriction, it simply remains in their hand.
I believe it was right since Wild evocation specify ''if able''. Counter spell not having an available target means she couldnt cast it.
Damn I missed the live sorry guys, been waiting for a new episode been watching all the videos over again lol. I would love to play with your pod but unfortunately I live in Kansas
" I am the mole god"
shoulda been 8x2=16 1/1 vamps at 37:40 instead of 7x2=14 since the first draw during draw step counts for the cards drawn that turn. dont think it changes the outcome in any way though.
In true anime form, at 28:55 Ayli went from Yami to Yugi, and no one was the wiser.
John with KGWL shirt, I knew I LIKE THAT GUY!
am i missing something or shoudnt have Ayli only drawn 6 cards since there where only 3 colors among permenants they controlled? 41:31
you caught it, unfortunately this is the only thing that could have actually turned the tide of the game bc who knows what she would have drawn otherwise.
Technically only four cards should have been drawn because she cast wub then four more in X. The card states draw for X.
I’m nine minutes in, and I’m dying to see what Ray has up his sleeve.
41:55 i think ayli messed up drawing from the orrery here. Since she only had her own stuff in play, at most she would have drawn three cards (then doubled to 6 from the insight), not 10, right?

Sick win. That was crazy cool.

Yes!!! That game was crazy! Lol
i cant believe he resolved that thieves auction lmao, all my friends (10) will scoop when i cast that and get mad at me. Ive tried to talk them into it but they just hate me for it
Can't put the Commander on the command zone when Thieve's auction its resolving, state base actions aren't checked in middle of resolution of spells and abilities
Ray is always one of my faves to watch
Is anybody else noticing that Ray doesn’t read his own cards? PanH only triggers for him. Other than that it was a fun episode!
I think my favorite part had to be the Norin sound effects
Chromatic orrery needs 5 mana into it and tap. Also you only had three colors on the battlefield, so only 3 cards should have been drawn and the double because of teferis ageless insight
Pretty sure the Esper Sentinel should have drawn more cards. Its draw unless someone pays equal to its power. The equipment made it bigger
What pain to see the table paying 1 mana for the "Esper Sentinel" when it was a creature with power 2 thanks to their equipment! 😢
I’ve been wanting to make Norin lately! I feel like Ray gets me
been watching too much sports. missed you lynch
Correct me if im wrong: i think rules go u gotta resolve the full spell before checking state based, and replacing the change of zones of the commander is checked as a state based for the dying triggers and stuff right? So shouldve been up for grabs on the auction?
P.s. he seemed so salty on the auction :')
Isn't state based actions checked after cards resolve? So commanders are put in the auction without the choice of moving them?
Ray is so likeable 😂 I hope he finally wins a game
2 minutes in and I'm allready wheezing 😂
Has anyone found out where to get the dice yall use for the show yet?!
Wouldn’t ayli have drawn 32 at the end instead of the sixteen she sacrificed for since the double draw was still on the battlefield causing her to lose?
I’m not one to point out misplays but … Ayli missed the hot sauce shot after she revoked the counterspell!😅
The esper deck was pretty dope
Why did Ayli drew 5 (then 10) from her Chromatic Orrery? Would she had to draw 3 (then 6)? I don't see her controlling a green or a red permanent, am I missing something?
Wouldn’t ayli have drawn 32 at the end instead of the sixteen she sacrificed for since the double draw was still on the battlefield causing her to lose? 44:36
I might have missed something, but how did Ayli draw 5(10) off the orrery when she only had 3 colors among permanents? Shouldn't it have been 3(6)?
Doesn't Ayli have 3 colors among permanents controlled when Chromatic Orrery was used? shouldn't it have been only 3 cards drawn then with insight 6 cards?
41:30 Chromatic Orrery should have only drawn 6 cards instead of 10 as its based on colors controlled
Rule zero of this game should of included One Commander which completely nullifies the other one means that one of you have to switch.
Shouldn’t Ayli draw 32 cards from sacrificing 16 tokens because of her enchantment. I don’t know how many cards she had left in her library but it probably would have been enough if she did less. So it’s just for my understanding.
At 41:32, how did Ayli have 5 colors of permanents to draw 5 cards?
Seen thieves auction cast 4 times irl and seen it cause the table to insta scoop 4 times. surprised it resolved here what a godawful card
I don't think this would have changed the outcome but, she shouldn't have drawn ten off of Chromatic Orrery because she only had 3 colors among her permanents right?
Chromatic orrery draws her six (esper colors, x2) not ten.
Shouldn't the 16 draws from Krav actually be 32 cards? Not sure if that would have decked Ayli but should also could have just stacked the triggers differently to avoid it.
Great episode
I have a question.
Ayli cast enchantment teferi's that doubled her draw so when sacrifice 16 token to draw 16 card then she must draw 32 cards and this is more then her deck so she must lose by deckout😂😂
Holy crap that was insane
Aylie drew an extra land. She likes to sac tokens and not edit the amount she has lol.
What large dice do they use? Anyone know where I could find some of the large ones they use?
Why did she draw 5 (10) off the orrey activation? Is there red and green permanents im just dumb and missing?
One small note, Anzrag's mana cost is two *generic* plus gruul, not colorless, which can make a pretty big difference in a lot of situations. While I knew what you guys meant, I've been seeing that misconception come up a lot lately elsewhere with newer players.
Very hype for the episode! Ayli is my favorite couldn’t have clicked fast enough!
I have friends that play cards like Stifle. My Norin never came back. Sad
I don’t think ayli should’ve drawn 5 off of chromatic orrery since she only controlled 3 colors of permanents.
Ayli should have drawn 32 cards because of the teferis ageless insight.
maybe the dude from patreon whose deck was played would like to have the decklist pinned?;)
Great episode! ugggh oooh
Nice Game with some degenerated cards. Like the chaos spice ^^
15:51 ray doesn't control a legendary to tap his mox amber for......
Are take back shots not a thing anymore?
when she sac'ed 16 to Krav. why didn't she draw 32?
Ayli, wouldn't counterspell itself be a legal target?
No. As I need to name a target as part of casting the spell. Counterspell isn't on the stack at that time to name.
The dude lyed counter would be casted an failed, they created a new mechanich now for that
41:48 I’m confused… shouldn’t she have only drawn 6 cards form chromatic orrery?? White, blue, black are the only colors she has and then doubled to six? Or am I missing something since gold, colorless and artifacts are not colors
Esper Sentinel was equipped they had to pay more than 1
