I love these ideas! My son loves helping me with EVERYTHING! He is 5 and he does dishes and I watch to make sure he cleans them well, makes his bed, cleans his room, vacuum, mops, makes sandwiches, folds his pajamas and puts his clothes away. He really enjoys helping around the house, and spending time with his mama💕
Love this! My oldest will be 18 this year. Each of my kiddos are assigned a different room each week as their chore. She’ll be leaving soon so she has been mentoring her 6 year old brother. He is assigned the same room as her and she is in charge of teaching him how to do those chores and overseeing to make sure it’s done well. (Teaching chores has always been so hard for me as a mom of several children. It just feels like a waste of time in the moment because it would be so much faster to just do them my self but boy is it helpful once they’ve mastered them!!!)
I’ve seen Jordyn Page talking about how her kids are assigned a different room, and I like that idea! Older kids teaching younger kids is awesome! I agree on that last sentence...in the moment it seems to be SO much easier to do it yourself! But it pays off in the long run 😊
You are such a wealth of good parenting information! I often remark to myself that you just seem so on top of everything all the time, and I think having your kids do so many chores is integral to this. I need to lower my standards and let my kids do what they’re capable of. Thanks again!
What lovely tips! My two year old, Nya feeds her bunny every morning, and cleans up her toys every afternoon. I found it gives her a sense of purpose, and she's actually happier!
This is so helpful! Growing up, I did not do any chores because mom wanted them to be done fast and now as an adult sometimes I struggle but I know I can do it! Will definitely do this with my future children as I know teaching them responsibilities will be useful in the long run!
@@mamatofive1 Ha!! Yes, yesterday I had my little one year daughter bring her laundry to the basket and it was hilarious because she kept thinking it is a game and running away with her laundry. 😂 Hilarious, baby steps!
Great video that a lot of parents should watch... some teach their kids little to nothing or don’t trust them to actually do chores... I will admit that my son has been an only child most of his life so he has less daily chores and he helped me a lot when he was 3 to 7 yo, but didn’t do many chores on his own. I love that you trust your little ones with quite a few chores... One thing I would suggest adding to this video would be pet chores (feeding the dog, brush the animal, taking him for a walk, giving the cat/dog a bath, cleaning the litter box, cleaning the hamster cage, etc....) and Outdoor home chores (like weeding the garden, picking ripe veggies, watering flowers/garden, raking leaves, shoveling snow, planting flowers and seeds, cleaning porch and porch furniture, cleaning off swing set, cutting grass, trimming grass, etc). I’d love to see an update to this video with pet and outdoor chores and your opinions on when kids are old enough to do them...I really liked this video.... Thankfully my son is a teen now and can do lots of chores to help out... I have severe health problems and can’t do many regular household chores... He is such a big help... he does my clothes and his own and his girlfriends... I fold mine and put them away... He also feeds the dog, walks him, bathes and brushes him and his teeth, and vacuums, takes out garbage, etc... he does shovel snow and helps with cutting grass, etc. He and his girlfriend have been learning to cook different foods, especially since Covid hit and they spend most of the time at home..
Thank you for this video, and it was such a helpful reminder of teaching them as you go. Would love to see a video of how they help bake and make meals as well as do they have a chore chart or do you just tell/ask then what needs to be done.
I do have a list of what they need to do, but they hardly look at it because they know their daily jobs right now. Saturdays are always big cleaning days, and I just write each of the kids a short list to complete, and they each get some bubble gum when they show me their completed list! 😄
So helpful, and a great list of chores according to kids ages! We’ve added a new “jobs” layer.. we don’t pay for their normal chores but, now I post jobs with a certain amount of “mama bucks” I’ll pay for that job and they love it, especially when they are really wanting something and need money!
You have some good ideas. I really didn't have to many chores when I was young. I took recycleables out and washed dishes. I am so glad we got a non-human dishwasher when Mom and Dad redid our kitchen three years ago because I hate washing dishes! I still live with my folks so I do things to help out around the house, although I am a procrastinator LOL! kOne of my favorite shirts says I put the pro in procrastination!
Great video! Thank you :) I see I have some work to do teaching chores! I have been guilty of thinking "I better do this myself quickly!" oftentimes lately.
Thanks I am always trying to think up new chores for my chlidren to do. I tried to every night think of a handful of chores that my children can help me out around the house so this video gives me a lot of choices. 💖
I think parents are really setting their children up for failure when they don't have chores. I have a family member whose 24 year old didn't know how to do their own laundry, nor do they know how to load their own dishwasher. By the time both my girls moved out they knew about budgeting, laundry, how to cook etc etc.
I really loved this! I need to up my game when it comes to making sure the kids do their chores. I have a random question. I want to teach my kids piano - but have never taught it. How do you teach piano? Do you teach a lesson then they practice that all week or until they master it before moving to next lesson?
I typically give them 2-3 songs to practice for a week, as well as a couple of pages of theory to do a week. I help them to practice, and usually they’ve close to mastered them in a week 😊
I love this! Do you assign chores in the moment as needed or do they follow a schedule? I only have one child doing chores. (A baby coming in a few weeks 🥰) She is almost 7 and I have her do 2 chores a day M-Sat, but then she usually offers to help with other little things here and there. Especially right now because I am 9 mos pregnant and she sees that I often need help. 😂
Congrats on the new baby!! 7 years old is a such a nice big sister age 🥰 We have a routine that revolves around meal times. At breakfast, one child sets the table, one is my breakfast helper, one washes dishes, and one dries dishes. Every meal has a similar pattern, with the kids rotating each meal. So they only wash dishes once a day, dry dishes once a day, etc. 😊 It’s the same pattern every day, and we switch it up every few months.
@@mamatofive1 I like that! The rotation is nice so no one feels like they always have the same thing. That’s why we rotate too. She helps me with some of my not so favorite chores. 😊
The tossing away their own diaper at one is nasty. I would assume you wash their hands afterwards as I'm sure you do yours. I LOVE your channel and never spoke out against anything you have posted until now.
If they’re by me when I wash my hands, then yes I wash theirs too! But after I’ve folded and shut their diaper and hand it to them, it’s not nasty. It’s really not much different than them putting their clothes in a hamper. Nothing “nasty” is exposed ❤️

Yes!! Little ones love having responsibilities! ❤️❤️
thank you for teaching your children how to live. The parents that do everything for their child think it’s love, but truly it’s crippling.

Absolutely brilliant guidance! Write a book! 🤗

This was helpful! I think sometimes I underestimate what they are able to do chore wise.
Yes! I do too! It’s hard when they just start learning a chore, and you know that you could just get it done so much faster ❤️

my kids can get the mail as well...they cross the street and get the mail often
That’s a perfect chore! Unfortunately ours is across a busy street so it’ll be a while before I let the kids do that alone!
