    This video is inspired by the Greyscalegorilla video ( • Better Renders with AC... ) on bringing aces to octane in Cinema4d. I adapted it to Blender.

    Hey, thank you for the tutorial! I have one problem however, when choosing OCIO view to ACES rgb my screen goes pitch black, same applies to all other presets except ACES Raw, I would really appreciate if you (or anyone) knows how to fix this.

    quick question, I am not able to download just the specific config you outlined. Only getting the option to download it all which is taking quite some time, I doubt youll respond before it finishes, but one could hope you potentially have a solution. Appreciate this video. Ive been deep diving into 3d after having figured out modeling and texturing. now delivering a final product your stuff is a whole vibe! subbed. look forward to more!

    Aren't you supposed to use ACEScg instead of ACES sRGB and ACES2065 ? Can't say about the preferences, but pretty sure in the OCIO settings it has to be ACEScg or in Octane the ACES sRGB is same as ACEScg + sRGB View Transform?
    Quote from ACES Central:
    "Generally, you should avoid rendering with ACES2065-1 because it is far from optimal for computer graphics rendering, some RGB colourspaces are performing better than others and ACEScg (AP-1) is greater than ACES2065-1 (AP-0) here." - Thomas Mansencal

    How do you approach your color texture maps? Do you convert them into the ACEScg ColorSpace?

    • @ManningMoore

    Do you have to convert textures in blender to ACES as well?

    • @ManningMoore
      @ManningMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good question. I have not had to do that. I am not certain octane has a way to read the color space of a texture as ACES. If it does, then you would want to do that. If it doesnt, there is no way to do that. Ill have to check that out and follow up with you

    • @AnnisNaeemOfficial

      @@ManningMoore I did find that octane has an OCIO colorspace node now that lets you select your aces colorspace for each texture.

    • @ManningMoore
      @ManningMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnnisNaeemOfficial good on otoy! And the people working on the blender plugin. I know blender 3.2 supports "ocio color space aliases" and "new linear acescg color space". So it should probably allow that to happen natively in cycles.

    Hi, thanks for the video, it's very helpful for me, but may I ask how did you set up the color management there and why the camera view and free view look different?

    • @ManningMoore
      @ManningMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm confused with your first question. Maybe you can explain that one a bit more.
      The second one is because when you render out of octane, you typically render with the view in a camera. You can do the same preview lut in just the viewport. Hit "N" to pull open the right side panel in the viewport. Go to the "octane" tab and do the same setup but with that viewport image processing. It works the same way

    Great Video! how about if you do compositing inside Blender? or Inside Blender but with Octane Compositor?

    • @ManningMoore
      @ManningMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If at all possible, I dont recommend doing that. Blender's compositor (as far as I know) is not able to work in the aces color space. octane or not. So I recommend using Nuke non-commercial (its free but has a resolution restriction) or Natron. also free

    One question is, what are your settings in Color management?

    • @ManningMoore
      @ManningMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your asking about the blender color management, it doesn't matter if you're using octane. It gets overridden by what we set up for aces. So I have my just set as whatever blenders default is

      @@ManningMoore thank you! Also I don’t understand why you use ACES2065-1 in octane system settings and when saving Aces CG? What is the difference? Why aren't you using the ACES2065-1 when saving the image?

    • @ManningMoore
      @ManningMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dmi3ryd When creating ACES, There are a few different profiles that were made for different departments. The ACEScg one was made for the vfx/3D/cg side of post. There is ACEScc for the color correcting. ACES 2065-1 was made for archiving the large information in ACES. Its too large for practical use inside of compositing or CG and doesnt have the falloff that colorists like (which is why ACES cc was created). Instead its really just used for archival stuff. ACES CG is more than enough for studios and personal work, so I stick with that. I dont have a need for long term storage that many/most houses use, so I dont need to render things in ACES 2065-1
