@@claudiagilzene6180Far more complicated than that. They fought, freed slaves during 1st Maroon War. The Treaty ending the war now brought Maroons as in support of the British
Like the video on German Settlement in Jamaica. I am Jamaican, who has been living in the U.S. for over 40 years. My grandparents and great grandparents coming down from slavery in Jamaica, who were free, did not get anything but their freedom. White slave owners were only concerned about who's going to continue working for them. That is why they brought in the indenture workers from India, China, German, and Ireland for cheap labor. Free black slave were left to fend for themselves. Just like the free slave in the U.S. were promised 40 acres, and a mule got nothing. They never want blacks to be economically empowered. Keep in mind there were also a lot of German prisoners being shipped to Jamaica after World War 2 by the British. My father used to tell me about these stories.
We were struggling during those times and trying to build Jamaica The British didn't do much after we got Independence in 1962.That is why Mr Michael Manley The Honorably Prime Minister of Jamaica .He became friends with Mr Castro in Cuba. He contributed a lot to Jamaica, Doctors, Teachers, nurses and even build schools. He helped if when we have any serious disaster.I will always respect the people if Cuba. They were were there even with Covid. One Love Cuba. 🇯🇲
The Germans integrated by mixing with those of African heritage because there weren’t many Germans left to continue the German bloodlines. The Germans tried to preserve their bloodlines within their own community, but that mainly entailed inbreeding, which created many genetic issues. So, if you explore Seafort’s community, you’ll find many of the African looking people actually are of mixed heritage.
This brought back alot of memories.I watched that programme growing up, it was called "Hill and Gully Ride" .It focused on rural areas in Jamaica and focused on the history of said areas. This particular episode was either the late 80s early nineties like 1990-1991.
That old man that was showing us how he does his coffee got some of that thicccc accent that some of the rural people have. The accent that I only hear when I visit my relatives in Trelawny .
The video is really old, a lot has changed includung the transportation system is no longer a problem in that area. There is even a highway passing next to that community currently. There are enough schools, training centers, private and public doctors/hospitals/medical centers, etc. Jamaica use to have doctors from Cuba....back in the days, even Indian Doctors you will find still plus J.A doctors. There is an Indian population and a Chinese population which fill certain Industrial gaps. ❤
As far as I've learnt, Emancipation happened and it was every free man for himself, a lot of freed people transitioned to apprenticeship and sugar cane workers. But we do have a lot of rural areas still that depend on health volunteers and donations.
Slavery may have ended earlier but the Brits weren't keen on education of Africans and African descendants. So even under self govt, limited actions we could do so education pushes took place AFTER independence in 1962. When Britain left in 62, literacy was 13%. It's 80+% now.@@TheDemouchetsREACT
The slaves got nothing , in fact, they had to work for five more years after slavery was abolished , to pay half of the compensation that the British government paid the slave owners for lost of their property , it was the biggest bailout in British history, the loan that the British borrowed to pay off the slaves owners wasn’t paid off until 2015.
Things have not really changed much in Seaford town. Majority of the white people in Seaford town are still poor and mostly rely on the support they get from agriculture. What I'm about to say next is a little controversial, but what I like about Seaford town iis that it breaks the narrative spewed that all white Jamaicans are rich because seaford town is a reminder that the narrative is false.
Jamaican doctors even today do not want to work in these rural areas. So many public health establishments still have Cuban and Indian doctors working there. The Irish doctor’s timeline in the video was long after independence so Jamaica was not under British rule.
There was jamaican doctors but because of where the locations are, no doctors would want to give up the opportunities in urban areas where they can make more money with better facilities..
It's hard to get the Jamaican doctors to work in those remote areas they want the Benz lifestyle you'll find them I n the USA Jamaica has to import doctors from india
The former slaves received no land. They had to work for their former slave masters for little or nothing as peasant farmers. There was little or no hope of owing their own land because of how little they were paid for their hard work. They were not given the offer of free land after five years of working as an indentured servant as the Germans and the Indians were given.
Well it wasn’t the fault of the Germans or other indentured servants. They were just taking opportunities offered to them because of extreme poverty where they were coming from at that time - in the early 1800s!
We know it wasn’t the fault of indentured servants. It was a moment of reflection in connection to our ancestors’ lives. Thank you for sharing with us @drs1350. I was hoping maybe they had a different outcome being that it ended earlier.
Interesting that a large portion of Indian, Chinese, Irish, Scottish and German populations in many British colonies were descendants of indentured servants. After the loss of their slave supply, they transitioned to cheap labor from other cultures. I'm Malaysian. Many Indian and Chinese families here were descendants from indentured servants brought over by the British.
Hi im Jamaican how can i contact you guy to talk more on this to give a little understanding Jamaica is very small island but at same time very big there is alot of community in Jamaica the youtubes dont have time to show or to see if you have a number to call that be great

The man they call father is a Roman Catholic Priest. That’s why they call him father.
The maroons didn't fight for any land they were traitor to the other slave.

I was hoping to hear Jamaica had a different outcome that we didn’t hear of before rather than sharecropping like our ancestors had here.
A lot of what you wrote are wrong

My white family came to Jamaica in a little before the Germans from Ireland for new prosperity

This is not a blame game. This is just information in response to the hosts musings about what happened to former slaves.
