The Paragon/Renegade system can be quite inconsistent, you'd think responding violently would be a Renegade action. It's like punching Zaeed is also a Paragon interrupt , as well as grabing that C-sec officer who threatens to run in that quarian for vagrancy.

My daughter is autistic and everytime i play this dlc i bawl my eyes out. i think it's important that stuff like this is shown, people often see autistic people as their condition and not as people. they can be treated with cruelty throughout most of their lives.
I'm with you -- I have one kid officially on the spectrum, another who might be dipping his toes in. It is rough, but I will say they are getting to be teens now and they are getting better all the time. I am fortunate that they are both very high functioning, and also that I think cultural understanding of autism has progressed quite a bit since the making of this game. (Much as I love this game.)
On the ending. Was it necessary for the story to have the impact it did? Yes. People have complained about it and maybe that's why so many recent stories are so homogenized, but it was a good story that showed just how crazy Cerberus could be. It's why classic BioWare was good at punching in the feels. That the BioWare music team is great at heart ripping music.

Giving him a bloody nose and probably a huge gash on his face... and then she delivers the line, warning him if he came after David, she would have a bullet waiting for him. OMG MY FAV DLC! This is the DLC that made me ultimately hate the illusive man and cerberus with a passion. This DLC just speaks volume to how evil cerberus is and will do anything to get what they want which means breaking moral bounds. This DLC is depressing but def not out of the norm for cerberus. This DLC is my fav because it showcases some of the best voice acting and story this series has to offer and im glad that Bioware didnt shy away from touchy subjects to showcase the evil that happens in this world.
And this isn't the first time they tried something like this. There's a book called "Ascencion" that tells story of autistic biotic Gillian Grayson. She's never brought up by name in Mass effect 2, but Tali mentions her few times in the game. Bombing of Migrant fleet was Cerberus trying to get her back.
Yeah, the depiction of autism here is one of the things that doesn't hold up quite so well a decade plus on. (Got a child on the spectrum as well.) On the other hand, the depiction of his brother's actions and decisions holds up really well. One of my favorite game series, and most of it is fantastically on point and aware.
I'm a teacher and one of the most important aspects of our job is supporting students with autism. Autistic kids have been some of my best students so every time I play this DLC I start crying at the end.
If I heard you correctly you mentioned that The Tower of Terror launched Aerosmith's career. You may want to get your facts right!!!! Aerosmith was formed in 1970 and was famous before 1974, The Tower of Terror opened at Disney in 1994..... The Tower of Terror ride is based off an original Twilight Zone episode.

That conversation with Mordin is also hilarious if you are staying loyal to your me1 love interest. He tells that he gets hits on constantly. His skin complexion is apparently considered attractive by Turians while there's also some Krogan sexual deviants who are very interested. And of course, Asari, and Mordin actually says he found their offers intriguing.
He’ll turn you down due to his mistaken assumption that you were coming on to him, but say that he is flattered, and “If wanted to try human, would try you.”

Fun(kinda) fact, this DLC has several outcomes in Mass Effect 3 depending on your choice. You got the kindest one with David going to Grissom, but if you let Gavin keep David, it's revealed he keeps testing on him in Mass Effect 3. You can find Gavin in the rogue Cerberus facility where you find Jacob. He mentions how they got some data out of him for communicating with the Geth, but eventually David falls apart and goes catatonic. Gavin sadly euthanises him. This caused Gavin to eventually defect from Cerberus since the guilt finally became too much. But to add another layer, if you finish the Rannoch missions beforehand, and reach the ending you achieved with the Quarian/Geth peace, you essentially nullify all of Gavin's effort. You tell him this and he commits suicide after having done horrible things in the name of science. and if you don't do Overlord David gets nuked or some shit I don't remember because every time I have played since, I have rescued my boi.
You can do Lair of the Shadow Broker now as well if you wish, it's probably the best DLC of the trilogy. Just wait until you've finished Mass Effect 2 before doing Arrival since it bridges the story between ME2 and ME3.
And what is worse is that the Geth were monitoring Project Overlord at least long enough to copy their work and produce a system that allows an organic mind to interface directly with systems like the Geth Consensus. And the Geth’s system was minimally invasive. So all of the suffering was pointless. The Geth knew about the project pretty much from the get go.
I don't think so. It was established that Cerberus acts as a bunch of independent secret cells. I'd say their big problem is a lack of oversight, which often attracts terrible people.
As both an autist and a massive Mass Effect fan I was ecstatic the first time I played through this DLC. I absolute love their interpretation of what "peak" autism could evolve to given another 200 or so years. I say "peak" autism because this is obviously a very extreme representation of the stereotypical asperger autist. The only thing I was worried about with this DLC coming out, was social media giving us autists a "victim badge" that we never asked for, as if autism is a disease or disability. Especially because I really liked how Bioware did it, despite not being anything like the type of austist David is. I love being autistic. Despite being so different from one another, autists, whether they're like David or like ones you don't even notice, all share an almost supernatural understanding of each other, and not in a "I know what it feels like" way either. We view the world in a way I wished everyone did and all of us have unique talents that perfectly define who we are, I always say "nature has to give autists some obvious weak skills like not being good at socialising because otherwise we'd be overpowered". Honestly I could talk all day about how I view autism in a very positive light and how happy I am to be one too, but I am gonna cut this comment relatively short lmao. Love your Mass Effect playthrough Meg, been binging it since I just finished my own like 30th playthrough of the trilogy! (Btw this isn't a comment about anything specific that happened in the stream, just felt like sharing. Y'know the obsessive need to clarify by providing an unecessary amount of information is another common aspect I like about autism xd)

Not sure if anyone already shared but... the Arrival DLC, which Admiral Hackett prompts you about, is best to be played after completing the main storyline. Just a suggestion.
An autistic person usually avoids eye contact... only if he completely trusts the person, or is very grateful to him. And at the end of this DLC, David looks directly into the camera, right into YOUR eyes.
Once upon in time I did a DnD campaign with a few buddies of mine and our DM did a similar twist at the end of a mission we did. Considering the type of character I was playing with a background that involved some of his family dead, because of a pact he foolishly made as 14 year old. I beat the shit out of this guy till death and had my teammates cast revivify and cure wounds on him several times and I just kept doing it over and over till we couldn’t cast the spells anymore. Then I gave a good speech and casted soultrap to take and use his soul for my needs. I miss that campaign
I know most people prefer fem Shep as the commander, but with of ending of overlord, I think Meer did a better job then Hale at showing Shepards utter rage towards what happened to David, mainly with the paragon lines.
I will say that I miss when these kinds of stories could be written. Today its all trigger warnings and too offensive and because there are people who have this problem you cant talk about it. That is the worst mindset ever and the reason stories like this dont get written nearly as much anymore. I'm high functioning autistic. I want more stories like this. Stories are supposed to make you feel something, if it offends you, thats part of the point. Teenage me was equal parts horrified and emotionally moved by this, and it was powerful. I havent had a good story told to me in any tangible form in years now because no one is allowed to talk about anything before they get cancelled, or get told they dont have enough trigger warnings to protect peoples feelings. I miss when stories were powerful, and people didn't have to be "protected" from the feelings they brought

I left him there, also let Morinth Kill Samara, let the Batarian die in the hallway when looking for Mordin and in ME:3 let the Quarians get wiped out (they annoy me), made the dying Batarian terrorist suffer longer in the docks area. When the paragon option came on screen as Tali threw herself off a cliff I ignored it. At the end of ME:3 instead of choosing a path for the reapers, I tried to shoot the Catalyst talking to me. The only time that playthrough I did anything paragon, was when dealing with anything that could affect the total military strength score...like not punching the reporter at the Citadel embassies.
The ending of Overlord is so shocking, not even Renegade players can bring themselves to leave David with Dr Archer and Cerberus

I think that was paragon because simply pistol whipping him is spoiling him in comparison to the horrible things he did to his brother.
