      Back in the '80's, I had several pairs of Amalfi black business pumps made on the same last: one with patent leather toe caps, one with snakeskin accents, one plain. Getting dressed one morning, I slipped into one pair, checked in the mirror, tried another, decided to wear the first. I kicked off one pair of shoes, stepped into another and headed off to my critical meeting. I presented my marketing campaign to the CEO and his senior staff: they approved it, and we took a break before we would detail out responsibilities. I took a corner seat in reception, checked my voicemail and glanced down. Yep: one patent toe cap, one snakeskin trimmed -- and no opportunity to go home. I spent the whole day with the executive team and department heads until I left for the airport to spend the weekend with my sister in Florida. My bag did not arrive with me. My sister is much taller and thinner than I am.

  • @katdixon8390
    @katdixon8390 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    That last one... some delusional disorders can manifest while someone behaves completely "normally" otherwise. And these delusions can be EXTREMELY hard to treat, because the person suffering the delusions honestly believes there's nothing wrong, and mental health treatment really only works if someone WANTS to get better. And there are few medical options; the same medications that work brilliantly for things like paranoid schizophrenia simply don't work well for something like persecutory delusional disorder, despite the delusions in those two disorders seeming very similar sometimes.
    In some cases, delusions can be triggered by drugs, and in some of those cases, they can go away if the drug use stops; but they don't always go away, and sometimes they're just inherent to a person's brain and have nothing to do with drugs (or there was a predisposition already and it was simply *activated* by drug use).
    Delusions like that just seem so much more sad to me than something like SovCits because SovCits are *willfully* ignorant, choosing to cling to something untrue because it makes them feel good; whereas people with these kinds of delusions don't necessarily WANT to believe what they believe, but just can't see any other reality and don't even know they need to TRY to see reality. It can cause the sufferer and their loved ones immense distress and destroy entire families.

    Lower court judges in Texas have immense power. Apparently they can order defendants to take drug tests on the spot before continuing the hearing they showed for, suspend drivers licenses on the spot, force defendants to sign affidavits for the sole purpose of contempting them if they don't comply, and even more. I'm with you Fleisher? 3 years ago, a co-worker of mine was at a dead stop on the freeway late one night and in a construction zone, after a day trip to a National Park. When an uninsured drunk hit his Van in the rear at 80 mph. His wife, 16 y/o son, and the family dog are DEAD! He is disabled 100% for life, he is now a single parent to a 14 y/o daughter who recovered from her injuries. Since this is very short version. Gone; his beautiful home they designed and built themselves, his 200K a year job, his master's degree is useless, his hobby & passion was astronomy, he had to sell all his scopes and equipment he'd been investing in since childhood. Yes, he had insurance, a lot actually but his medical bills were staggering. I could go on, but you get the picture right? Did I mention the deadbeat is no longer with us and left his own family destitute? When these clowns go uninsured my blood pressure is unsafe. That poor guy has been living a nightmare for years now. • @julianokleby1448
      @julianokleby1448 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like he needs it. He asked if he had applied for social security DISABILITY, not if he'd applied for SSI. There is a big difference in the two. Disability pays you a certain dollar amount monthly, based on your highest earning three years. It doesn't seem like he'd been able to hold a job down for 3 years in his life, so he would be ineligible for it.
      SSI is supplemental security income. With it you get a small check ($827/mo for a single adult not working with no unemployment income) and you get Medicaid. Sometimes food stamps depending on your situation. You have to be poor to get it, unable to work or find gainful employment. Both SSI and SSD deny you at least the first two times you apply in every circumstance. They want to know if you really need it, and if you keep applying, you probably do. Of course they know how much you make and if you're working, so he wouldn't cheat the system.
      Average wait time for either one is around 2-3 years from the date you apply. Not as easy as you'd think. He might possibly be able to get a job, but would he be able to hold one down is anyone's guess. He seems off his rocker in a lot of areas. Honestly, if you were a business owner, would you hire him? Why should Walmart?

The way it's offensive is that it sounds like it's perfectly fine to have non-black/brown people in jail, that the only thing we should be concerned about is black/brown. He's notorious for making racially biased statements in FAVOR of black/brown people, not against. He ran for judge based upon 'more visibility of Latino judges'. Fleisher is racially biased... it just happens to be in your favor. So, um, of course it wouldn't offend you.

      Mike just gets his panties in a bunch if anyone even hints at the idea that the BLM movement has a valid point. Judge Simpson has made nearly identical comments to the ones you mention and tossed a "driving while black" case for "improper lane use" and the kid had just pulled off the highway because he got a flat tire.
      Mike, like many Republicans, wants to believe that merely acknowledging, discussing, or mentioning BLM, CRT, or Historical Trauma is ridiculous because to him, DEI is a bigger issues than racism and discrimination. Just mentioning or acknowledging that darker skin people (or women) could be getting unfair treatment is playing a race card or getting something extra based on unwarranted sympathy or that just giving sympathy is the same as excusing if not encouraging bad behavior.
      Mike is aware of his biases but he discounts any concerns about his blind spots as "woke" or invalid.

      Fleischer's entertaining, he's odd, he likes to talk tough, he loves to appear objective & socially conscious - but his sentencing is weak. He'd rather put a recidivist back on the street with one of this cathartic lectures & zingers, than to lock them up where they belong. Don't worry, Fleischer, we'll build more prisons. You're right about that guy too - I see a lot of that, guys walking defiantly through traffic as though they've got a portable crosswalk - that is jaywalking, it can cause accidents, it is illegal. For some dumb reason, so is possession of pot. Now cops know not to enforce jaywalking laws unless they're catching a white guy. Fleischer shared a lot about his preconceptions & how he frames his persona in that one. Want cops to stop caring? Watch what happens. When it gets bad in Fleischer's neighborhood, that's when he'll start caring.

    First case, while it sounds pretty serious and he really needs this reality check, if they hired a lawyer before hand, likely they would have disputed the "marijuana residue" on the floor of the car, if impossible to prove, the scent of marijuana can't be proven, and can win a probable cause hearing and have the other evidence found dismissed. I know because I had a possession charge for another substance when I was younger, and wound up consenting after they said they would search anyway due to small of cannabis, though I did not have cannabis. My lawyer said if I hadn't consented, and they searched based off smell of marijuana as probable cause, he could have gotten the probable cause overturned - since the only way to prove a smell is by finding something that would provably cause the smell. It is very common for police to make finding traces of weed, because they know a judge would dismiss it due to lack of probable cause if they find nothing. Sounds like mom wanted him to learn his lesson, and also sounds like the judge wants the drug test done because if he tests positive I'm sure he'll say that the findings if he came back with a lawyer who disputed the "residue" in the vehicle which very well may not have existed(though typically they really would need to lab test the alleged residue, and if just residue, they might not have a physical sample of it).

    You read my mind, inverse relationship, not adverse relationship. Also, my first impression was the same with the racial comment, pandering, though I think he was trying to be personable for the sake of the fact the defendant is young. He is bucking the system, and judge is trying to be like "hey man, I am the system, and I totally get it, be on our side and follow the law we don't want bad things for you". Also, I noticed he worded it as "I'll pay for your lawyer if you want" to the mother, I think he was assuming the mother may not have much money and wanted to add some dignity to the option of public defender by making it sound more like he was going to help them specifically so the kid thought he was getting a better lawyer and the mom could not come out of her pocket for a professional lawyer(also, I think he already knows what sentencing guidelines he's going to follow, so giving the hint, don't bother with paying extra for a lawyer since it won't make a difference either way). I do think he wanted to get through the kid and really didn't want him to keep getting in trouble, that judge does care. Though definitely pandering(almost trying to be fatherly with the mother and child IMO, to some may even be condescending, though may be kind since maybe that is the issue idk), though I think it was more so the kid listens, as the kid may have a complex about race and the justice system, the judge is really trying to make it clear like "hey for real we aren't going to treat you unfair and you don't have to be in and out of jail ongoing because you're black, but really just don't keep getting in trouble" type thing.

The way to reduce the number of black and brown people in prison is for the individuals who are convicted to stop committing crimes.
