  • The Varnus Organ Hall needs your help. We are asking the community's support to restoring and operating Varnus Hall, Canada's only private organ concert venue owned by Xaver Varnus, to provide a worthy home for organists, famous artists and young talent alike, from around the world to perform, and broadcast their concerts online. We are grateful to you if you can help our work with any donations. ca.gofundme.com/f/fundraising...

    A spine-tingling performance by both players. This, together with Varnus' rendition of the passacaglia on the Silbermann organ, is now in my "top ten".

    Beautful. It sounds so right. sends me to sleep, purified in spirit and mind. I regret to say that I am in a wheel chair but that does mean that the mind is. Imprisoned as well My golden rule is : do what you can. Not what you can’t this keeps you sane too !

    Very good. What a beautiful building, and great playing as always. Xaver's organ concerts are like 90% of the music i only listen to, since i found him on TH-cam. Love the athmosphere and the mechanics of pipe organs, and Xaver's playing is 100% accurate.

    Xaver and the pianist were in perfect sync. Very romantic. I did see pipes in one background view. Maybe the sound was a combination of pipes and electronics. From Chicago, U.S.A.

    I enjoyed this very much, even though it sounds more like Mendelsohn than it does Bach. A thoroughly romantic interpretation of a romantic-period arrangement of a baroque-era piece. Unfortunately, a better understanding of the finer points of baroque performance practice would have produced something much closer to the composer's original intention. For my part, I'd have preferred an 'authentic' (not a dirty word!) baroque tracker organ interpretation rather than a piano-organ rendition. Despite my stylistic criticisms, this is a obviously a very dignified, moving and expressive performance.

    The first part reminds me of all of the pain and madness that I have experienced and then at 7:31, pure magic, I can see through it all, I can see my departed true love, Her standing there before me, smiling, ready to reach out for me, I reach out to bring Her close to me, I can feel that our heartbeats are slightly out of sync, but our souls are in phase, and I get lost in Her eyes, I can see all of this just by listening, She is the piano and I am the organ.

    This is a beautiful variation. But it can never replace the violin presentation as performed by Heifetz, Stern, Milstein or Perlman. The sound of the piano has somehow a far smaller frame of expression than that of a violin. The original contains a sadness and at the same time an exuberant brilliance which both, the piano and organ cannot express, perhaps the human voice.

    unfortunately, it s much better to record this music without anybody as spectators, because people don t really like music and they cough too much. In this video, we hear stupid people gagging all concert long !!

    • @ChaseBlackmoon
      @ChaseBlackmoon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know, all I can think of is that Bugs Bunny cartoon where he shoots that guy in the audience that won't stop coughing, makes me wish one could do that in real life.

      I was at a Ivor Pogorelich concert and this stupid woman behind me kept unwrapping cough drops and crunching the wrappers. The pianist stopped and stared .

    • @absurdengineering
      @absurdengineering 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not stupid people. Assuming that they are not having a cold, they are allergic to dust, and this is quite a typical reaction. Way more than 50% of the people coughing in concert halls are doing it in reaction to foreign (to them) dust. Not everyone knows that to stop coughing during concerts all they need is to have some antihistamine started a day or hours before (depending on the particular drug). There were a couple of classrooms at the university I went to where I’d just cough my lungs out and couldn’t really attend the lecture. I wish someone who knew their stuff would let me know about the possibility of it being an allergy…

    That is a digital organ, the obe is a recording of a real player. If he hols the key long enough the vibrato comes in.. It is nothing more than a 3 manual synthesizer. Such a shame such trickery should be used to play beautiful music.

    • @t8rn8r
      @t8rn8r 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Nothing more than a 3 manual synthesizer"
      The same could be said for imitative organ ranks where the goal is to produce the actual orchestral instrument. This organ just does a lot better than pipes ever could.
      I'm sorry that you can't enjoy the beautiful music because it's produced in a way that you don't like.

    • @mosermarcel1970
      @mosermarcel1970 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dear Mr. Shaw, What is your problem? Sometimes it's better to install a a 3 manual Synthesizer than a Harmonium. In this room you have a big problem. Where you will install a Pipe- Organ or a Harmonium. It's impossible. More advantages are, the synthesizer can be adjustet to the room and the sound of the piano. Sometimes is less a little bit more...
