If you've followed Beterbiev's career, you'll know he's probably been at this level for the best part of ten years. A few years ago people just pretended he didn't exist. Now that he has belts they are finally having to deal with him.

Head movement doesn't work on Beterbiev because he'll throw relentless combinations that follow the head movement while moving in close enough to stifle the counter-punch opportunities.
His combinations are short, and he's not winding up or pulling his arms back as he's throwing the combinations.
This proves that he knows what to imagine when he trains on the swivel bag, double-end bag, and heavy speed bag.
Some of these Russian fighters have truly mastered the fundamentals. For casuals, fighters like Beterbiev might look boring at the start of the early rounds. No unnecessary risks, accurate punches, picking his opponents apart with phenomenal movement in tight spaces, generating a crazy amount of power in short blows combined with a insane stamina. Literally insane because he was bunny hopping vs Yarde and threw 35-punch combo at the end of the 7th round. It reminds me of the UFC where you have the likes of Makhachev, Khabib and even Ankalaev at the moment. Makhachev is similair to Beterbiev in the sense that his fighting IQ is extremely high. No risks resulting in greater rewards. Fans want to see him jump in and take great risk to ko his opponent but these Russian fighters are great at minimizing the damage to their own body. Accurate, patient, explosive and very technical. Khabib was also criticized for being boring and slow paced but fighters gave him the respect he deserved. Praised by heavyweights, middleweights and fighters from multiple other divisions for his technical abilities on the ground which according to the likes of Whittaker, Poirier and countless of others was far more superior and astonishing than that of his opponents to the point they themselves admitted, they never felt such pressure before. Once again, someone who truly mastered the fundamentals which could defeat any orthodox style. Ankalaev is also very technical and accurate whilst minimizing the risk of damage. Some other fighters in boxing like Wilder or in the UFC like Ferguson and Walker are entertaining because people want to see the knockout power but sometimes they heavily lack the fundamental skills and patience. If you're a casual and look at Artur, you'd think he heavily relies on his knockout power but if you analyze his style, you'd see that his technique in tight spaces is phenomenal. For outsiders or people who solely want to see a fast and risky ko, these fighters may look boring but for those who sparred and fought themselves, they can see the stylistic beauty of it. True masters of the fundamentals, repeating the basics a thousand times till they're able to dream the movement and techniques that's needed to defeat other styles.

They push the opponent's chin with their head & then punch the opponent's jaw without looking at it.

I noticed that one of the main reasons why Artur is always knocking out his opponents is because he is very accurate in hitting the sensitive areas of the head. Usually boxers would punch in the chin or cheeks area, but this dude loves hitting the upper sides of the head, which is very nasty and can really rock your world.
Play it back in .25 speed he's hitting a illegal spot in the head plus he's throwing elbows behind his hooks like Mike tyson used to do

Buddy McGirt is consistently one of the most compassionate trainers in boxing. He has saved many fighters from unnecessary damage over the years by stepping him when he knows his fighter is too tough for his own good.
It's because he was a fighter at a very high championship level. No need to take extra damage

May I add, not only the compassion, but if you listen to his instructions in the corner, he is giving his boxers solid advice, correct advice. It’s just unfortunate Buddy has B plus/A minus fighters that just can’t get over the very little humor. Tonight’s fight, he gave Smith excellent AND correct advice, but Smith just couldn’t execute it. Told him to stay off the ropes. Told him to use the left hook to the body, which was there all night for the taking. Not saying it wouldn’t have hurt, but it was there. Told him to use his distance with the jab, but Smith didn’t do it.
Don't forget Buddy McGirt loss a fighter to Subriel Mathias. He knows boxing and protect his fighters. A legend of a trainer for sure. I really love this guy

Those type of punch are hard to see coming because you have the false impressions your opponent is loading up while the push is already in your face

His technical skills are *highly* underrated. I honestly don’t see how Bivol can beat this man. He hasn’t been able to display a 2nd gear in years, and for Beterbiev, he will need a 2nd, 3rd, and even a 4th gear.
This puts Anthony Yarde’s performance in perspective, who put in a spirited display before the TKO came

Beterbiev is, on top of being a smart tactician, just stupidly physically gifted. He barely needs to commit on his punches to generate enough power, so he's always balanced. He uses his arms and slight head movement very well for defense and is just crazy fuel efficient. Plus it looks like he has rocks under his skin. Just an absolute specimen perfect for combat.
Hats off to Mundo. He went until it was stopped and had some good moments until then.
Not to take away from his victory because he's a great boxer and the eastern european amateur circuit clearly produces tactically sound boxers with great ring IQ, but he's also clearly juicing.

Well if he cant even put up a few combos throughout 7 rounds then he has absolutely no business fighting for 3 world titles in the first place (which he really didnt; Smith truly has the priviledge of being born an Englishman). Dude has very basic footwork and it showed against Ryder and Canelo whom Smith towers over. That's why he got outjabbed by someone 4-5 inches shorter and 6 inches disadvantage in reach in Beterbiev.

The way he was slowly stalking smith working his jab up and down out jabbing and out boxing the longer fighter while looking for openings was amazing. The way he punches with those short accurate punches on the inside is beautiful to watch. I dont see anyone beating this man any time soon in this weight class. He is an absolute tank.

Its such a shame the US market is only about money and that is why Artur only has 20 fights. He hasn't been "marketable" enough for guys to take fights but now with all the belts we will see more of him which is fantastic. Hes been at this level for close to a decade. Loved this fight. What impressed me the most is the guy with this freakish power never forgot his jab. The jab he was throwing all night was like a power shot but he stayed disciplined.
