Radios across Earth suddenly experience 'technical difficulties.' Once alerted to this trouble, the Autobots trace the source of the trouble the moon-located Megatron and Decepticons. With all sorts of human matters experiencing trouble, many Autobots have a lot on their plates. Fighting the Decepticons head-on, though, falls to Blaster who has been itching to prove the worth of his unique power and Cosmos. Omega Supreme also takes on Astrotrain. However, can they all get the job done?

Got to admit, this is one of Megatron’s more insidious plots, who knows how many people got hurt during his radio blackout.

Blaster is a pretty underrated character. In the Marvel comic he was the Autobot version of The Punisher, and in this cartoon he’s basically Jazz 2.0. But honestly, it’d be useful for the Autobots to have their own communications officer, as well as a fun music buddy for Jazz.
Yes they made him more "cool" than "badass". What they should have done is split the autobots into two teams. One for special ops that takes all the dangerous stuff (it would be small team of the best that don't rely on backup and survive alone) and then the main team for all the regular mission. The special ops guys would be able to act independently of optimus prime and Blaster would be leader. (most of the people on the team prefer to work alone so maybe chuck in a dinobot in there for fun or have cliff jumper do some crazy stuff that gets everyone into trouble for humour so missions get even more dangerous than normal) The problem with G1 is at the time cartoons had to be appealing to children and comics seemed to get away with more mature themes. The cartoons always had to have a moral message to them because they were broadcast to a wide audience. These days you can get away with more mature stuff. (eg in Transformers Prime Cliffjumper is killed right in the beginning. That would not happen in the 1980s) I believe if hasbro rebooted G1 with Transformers Prime's budget it would be great way to bring it up to 2021 standards where people can die, get damaged badly enough and be out of action for weeks, or just disappear MIA for a long stretch so it's like a semi-permanent death to make the action more suspensful and characters can stand out more. Blaster to me was like the TF equivalent of Cable from X-men. It was about the 1990s that the restirctions were loosened a bit. Perfect example is Morph getting "killed" and that made wolverine go berserk and stop trusting in Cyclops as leader. (this kind of drama could be introduced into the reboot of G1 where Blaster and Grimlock and Cliffjumper decide to form seperate team that is not dependent so much on what Optimus Prime thinks and they actually succeed a lot so are given more authority to work independently if they meet a standard of success rate in missions done)
If you look at Jazz's bio he is spec ops guy. He and Blaster would be the founders of the team 2 and a third team could be made out of the first. (made up of younger autobots of future that want to act independently of team 1 sort of like how you got the Teen Titans as 'the discount justice league' in DC universe hehe)

I like to think blaster is all about noise (using music to distract people just like Jazz) and soundwave is all about recording conversations to gain intel. One is counter intelligence (feed enemy bad info) and the other is intelligence (gain plans of the autobots to stop them). Blaster likes loud music, soundwave is extremely quiet and sneaky. Polar opposites of each other. One can use loud music to mask other sounds to make people deaf so they can't hear anything else, while the other tries to avoid making noise so the cassettes can hide. One is red (signals to enemy to pay attention or alert) and the other is blue (calm color that doesn't stand out as much) One looks like a regular outgoing extroverted character, and the other looks like a ninja wearig a face mask and has an introverted personality. Soundwave has no charisma as the other decepticons say in the movie - perhaps because he has to be impartial if he is to spy on everyone in the organisation (eg starscream plot to overthrow megatron through betrayal) so making friends would compromise his job. No favourites! His job is to treat everyone with equal suspicion, But Blaster likes to be friendly to people being into music and having culture.

When you think of Transformers best episodes, Blaster Blues isn't the first thing to come mind but there's a lot going on here. The 1985 line getting phased in, battles on Earth and the moon. Omega,Cosmos and Astrotrain fighting it out in deep space and a good characterization of Blaster. It's an underrated episode if ever there is one.
I find that there's TOO much going on. The characters barely get any screen time, barely any development because of that, the plot feels very unfocused even though there's still a main plot
‘Blaster’s Blues was better than the season 3 episodes.
I have said this before. Season 3 lost the balance of mixing old and new characters that seasons 1 and 2 had.

This is the first episode debut of Omega Supreme, an Autobot giant can transform into 3 multiple components (rocketship, base and tank mode.) and can also equipped with sophisticated subspace storage pocket system enabling to carry ground components while in rocket mode. He's one of three space-faring transformers (Omega Supreme, Astrotrain and Cosmos) who came to Earth on their own in the events of the show's second season.

The plot of this episode was ALL OVER THE PLACE. every insignificant mini accident and "oh no" moments you can conceive of and solved within 1 minute. Planes can't land, fire in forest, snowstorm, power glide got shot going to crash, jetpack out of fuel.., prime got shot, going to moon.. Etc etc
That's G1 for you. It keeps things faced paced so it doesn't seem like there's much downtime.

Autobots: Debilitated by the bafflingly combined sounds of Cold Slither and that Disco Rock theme created for the Spider-Man cartoon (why'd they play both songs at once?)

One of the greatest treasures of these episodes is the characters' personalities. We, as children, almost became friends with the subjects because they resonated with us. Gotta love G1!

Powerglide's "Bang, zoom, to the moon!" is an interesting reference. PG's voice actor based the voice on the late great Jackie Gleason, who portrayed Ralph Kramden on 'The Honeymooners'. Ralph would often say "Bang, zoom" as an empty threat to his wife, miming a punch (as in, hit her so hard she goes to the moon). Other times, he'd just say "To the moon, Alice!" To the extent of my knowledge, he never combined the two into a single phrase, though. This is also why PG has a penchant for saying "And awaaaaaay we go!"

I wonder which other Transformers voices were based on real actors. I knew Peter Cullen used John Wayne as an inspiration for Optimus Prime.

I can't help but feel bothered by the fact that the Autobots are always bothered by Blaster's music, but they never complain about Jazz's music.

Why does it seems like they only have one song in the entire cartoon universe? This rocksong were beeing used in almost every SF-cartoon in the 80s to symbolise human music and only that.
The music that is played trought out the Transformers is the same music that also played in Spide-Man, and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends because is made by Marvel

It's a cost saving move. Using the same music for different productions saves on having to commission new work. Animated productions were getting expensive by the time the 70s and 80s came along, and computer animation wasn't yet common place or cheap enough to replace traditional hand-drawn animation until around the mid 90s. Do the math. The most common television quality animation was twenty four frames per second. That's twenty four slightly different inked cels every second! Twenty four x sixty seconds x twenty four minutes = 34,560 hand drawn pictures PER CARTOON! Even sending these to relatively cheap animation studios in Japan, Thailand, and the Phillipines. Filmation used American artists exclusively, resulting in much higher quality but also much more expensive animated programs. Marvel Productions was considered to be a better animation studio than Hanna-Barbera's Super Friends (frequent collaborator of Marvel's chief competitor DC Comics) (both studios used overseas animators to cut costs) but look at the animation quality of Filmation's 70's Tarzan, Batman, or even the 1980s He-Man and She-Ra. Filmation's work, in terms of quality, blew Marvel and Hanna Barbera out of the water.
out of all the autobots i loved how Cosmo just started to do flips in space but the others reacted poorly to it besides Jazz. Cosmo has good taste in music.

@@BrotherDerrick3X He's been blown to bits by Centurion Droids, fried by Kremzeek, immobilized and dangled from a cliff on Titan, and every other episode, he runs out of fuel and has to sit out the action in shuttle mode.
@@Quillobyte_ he wasn't blown to bits by droids. It was a case of explosive decompression. I'm not going to argue with a child.
If only they had all been drawn this well. Episodes like The Core. If that episode had looked as good as this, it would have really made a difference to how good it was. It is a phenomenal episode that is held back by the animation.
Actually The Core was one of the earlier Akom episodes. City of Steel is another Akom work. Akom is largely considered to be cheaper and inferior quality to Toei's. Akom being significantly less expensive is probably why they went with Akom for all of season 3 and the abbreviated season 4. Transformers G1 enthusiasts have created virtually a cottage industry of pointing out Akom animation and coloration errors.
@@houseofno I'm not sure that's correct. Season 3 had a few standout episodes that definitely weren't akom trashfires - Call of the Primitives springs to mind.
@@houseofno The industry's wrong on this one. I've been busy refuting the Akom talk in Season 2. Those three eps were not theirs. Everyone's aware of the existence of the Spider-Man and Hulk series - also from Marvel - and should have realized it's a very different South Korean studio that Marvel hired for those. A better one in my opinion. Errors, some sloppiness and very dull colors, to be sure, but I give them credit for solid work on human characters and some smooth in-betweening.

Ok, this episode is totally one of my favorites cause it just happens to mostly star 3 more of my favorite Autobots.
3:46 to be fair he doesn’t immediately kill everyone in his line of sight. He even gives the doctor a warning before he grab it. He’s a bad guy but he’s not a bad guy. Most of his encounters with the auto bots end with no casualties just warning shots

He doesn't have enough energon for lethal shots.
This is a 1980's television show, and children's programming was strictly regulated back then. No overt violence and no on-screen deaths was permitted in a children's cartoon. Essentially these were twenty-two minute toy commercials. The last thing a toy company needed was programming seen as traumatizing children. Theatrical films were under a completely different set of rules.
