You know what's weird was when the settlers first came to Jamestown, they spread rumours among themselves that the natives dug grades an ate people from the grave. Yet when the settlers starved, they ended up digging through graves and eating people
Natalia Edwards Yes I have! Today we get to chose who we marry, who we elect, what our job is, etc That’s something people of that day didn’t get to choose. As an American we have a right to speak freely and worship freely. We don’t have too make our own food, we have stores with food. We don’t have to worry about having clean water, that’s just something we have. And it’s very important that America stays that way! If you read this, I just want to say, Have a blessed day in our great country.

Ty mrs overfield for sending me here where history channel in the day it’s normal history and a night they talk about how the aliens tried to mind control Alex Jones
I live in Williamsburg, VA (Jamestown), it’s incredibly humid here in the summer, & spring. I can’t imagine being exposed to the elements, not knowing what kinds of creatures were out there in the woods (or spirits), & not knowing if the native people were coming for you in the night 👀
Mt 12th great grand father was Thomas Graves. He was one of the men who settled Jamestown colony, and he also was part of the House of Burgesses. It is amazing how much history we can learn through our own ancestry research.
I am a living relative of William Jarrett 1 - One of the 100 Men aboard the first ship from England in 1607 arriving in 1609. A second ship didnt arrive until 10 years later with women. He is my 15th Great Grandfather
It's so hard following American history versus that of other countries, the way we talk about the past always has to include some providential message about risk-taking and being underdogs. Feels more like myth-making than any truly academic and educated look at our past. Colonial Viriginia was as much an ugly brutal place full of spoiled greedy plutocrats and their workers both indentured and enslaved having to compete at the bottom... Better to talk about that so we can comprehend our present and how some things haven't changed...
It's both American and English. The first states were descendants of the original colonies. The history is inextricably connected. Anyway, why do you have to prod amd pick a fight? I don't understand people like you.

- escaping the religious persecution - escaping poverty - escaping that seal that if you were not an aristocrat you could not rise. (in summary of that point: basically if you weren't already born into royalty you had no chance to become someone particular) in its entirety, the three reasons were basically for liberty.
I purchased the History Channel DVD set Founding Brothers in 2002, in it the narrator says America declared its neutrality in the Jay Treaty, this is WRONG.The Jay Treaty more aligned America with Britain. That is why France, and a lot of Americans were furious over the Jay Treaty.

There were no women on the 1st voyage to Jamestown. Men and boys as young as 12. They did not go to Jamestown for religious freedom. That would be 1620 at Plymouth Plantation. 13 years after the founding of Jamestown.
@SoCalstylez858 Unlike Public School, this gives much detail, and much information. When is the last time you were there? Rather than spend a student's time reading a book, a teacher can assign living people of this day and age, KNOWLEDGEABLE people, to speak about this history. It is not complte, and isn't meant to be. you have to eat the elephant (of accurate history) one bite at a time, and can only digest so much at once.
