This episode punched us right in the freakin’ feel goods, so we may have gotten a little choked up while recording it. I mean, we made a lot of memories here in the mountains! It’s just an amazing place to spend your time. Have you been to this area of the country?
i was in boone last year. came out to app state to a concert. drove out and spent the night near lenoir and planned to go to blowing rock the next morning but a member of our group got sick. i am really hoping to make it back out there again very soon.
I lived there from 1980-1982 and absolutely loved it..I was only 10 yo at the time and moved from Miami...what a culture shock !..lol...I went to Parkway Elementary right on the Blue Ridge Parkway...Being only 10 I didnt quite grasp how special this area was at the time but 40 years later I certainly do ! Thanks for the great video and memories...I lived in Brookhollow Estates near Howard(s) Knob and used to love playing in Mutton Creek especially after a good rain..Good times..:)
I live in the area at the foot of the mountains. My earliest recollection of Boone was when my parents took me to Tweetsie Railroad the very first summer it opened (mid fifties). Highway 321 was a two lane and totally devoid of traffic back then. I took my daughters there when they were in school and later my grandson when he was eight. I think I crossed the bridge on my first visit to Grandfather, but waited until my second visit to Chimney Rock.
My family and I are headed to Boone or surrounding areas Dec 26 - Jan 2. We are wanting to check out the skiing situation in that area. We would be forever grateful for any lodging suggestions you may have for us. Thanks so much in advance. Great video!!!
Hey Terra! There are a few nice hotels within Boone but you'll want to book those now because that's a prime time of year! Blowing Rock will definitely be a lot more expensive as will Beech Mountain. The other option is an AirBnB. Good luck and hope you enjoy your trip!
My in laws have a small duplex near Boone. Over in TN, my wife and I honeymooned there in 2016. As nice as Boone is, it was also a little too crowded for us. We also feel the same about our hometown, someday soon I hope we can travel and visit the country like y’all are doing.
Boone is crowded because of insufficient roads to handle the traffic. New roads or widening would slow traffic to a standstill. This is also a college town. APP is a big school.
A month ago I was researching Jeep Gladiators and saw some of your videos but didn’t follow. Today I was looking for places to go in my new Gladiator and here you are again. I guess you are stuck with me now!
You should definitely check out the Brown Mountain Lights in Linville Gorge. Amazing if you are lucky to see it. Best times are late at night in Fall or Winter.
Beautiful place to check out to land is Lincoln city Oregon , small town vide on coastline world class surfing, hiking, less than 2 hours from mount hood . Thanks for sharing reside in Florida along coastline looking place to land that can actually lose self in outdoor activities. Miss the trails with color and elevation.
My ancestors are the Linvilles that the gorge and area is named for. I will be visiting the area hopefully in the summer. I've been to Boone just after Christmas and it was almost deserted and lovely. Gift shops have handmade jewelry, paintings, etc. Several great restaurants, as well. We loved the cabin we stayed in outside town.
You definitely showcased some of the great spots here. I'm sad how overcrowded it has become too between the school (which is my alumni school) and people trying to find refuge during Covid from the cities. It still has my heart though and western NC is the best part of the state. I live outside of town (thankfully) and very close to Fleetwood.
@@FarFromOrdinary check out the Columbia River Gorge. Hood River is a touristy town of 7,000 people nestled between two snow capped mountains with tons of outdoors sports including wind and kite surfing on the Columbia River. Lots of wine tasting and breweries too. I miss it so much. I wish I could find a place like it out on the East a coast. I’m hoping Boone is it.
I proposed to my girlfriend on Beacon heights. Beautiful place. That was my first taste of the Appalachian mountains and one I the many reasons we decided to move from Florida to south Carolina next year. It's funny you guys are going out west, but we can't wait to move to the NC, SC area lol
That's so cool! It's definitely a beautiful place, one of our favorite little spots. Coming from FL you're going to LOVE that change! I remember moving up from the South and actually experiencing seasons for the first time LOL
You mentioned moving out West. Where are you going be out there? We’re planning our 50th anniversary in 2022. Boone is on the list. We’re originally from Idaho. Thanks for your video.
We are still looking, although I think we're starting to narrow down on some part of Arizona. Early congrats on your 50th!!! That's amazing. 15 years for us so far.
Do you know any photographers or photography places in the area? Also any restaurants that are a must? My bf and I went last year and are in love w it. We’re going again next month :)
We know a couple but they're all wildlife photographers (something about animals outnumbered people LOL). For restaurants Basils and Brews is pretty good! Also the pizza from Lost Province is good and don't miss the cookies from App Cookie Co! June is a wonderful time to be there; still nice and cool!
If you want to be in a college town and deal with traffic on weekends then Boone it is. Fleetwood is about 45 mins away from Boone. It's a small, sleepy town. Very quiet but nothing in terms of jobs. Great if you work remote. Banner Elk is another option but it's likely more expensive then all of those. Asheville is a lot farther SouthEast it's a bigger city with a mountain feel, but nothing like that of Boone. Hope this helps!
It would! The fence does run across most of the view but there is a spot to the left of the fense, up on a rock, that gives you unobstructed views. Honestly though, being a photographer I would do a sesh at Beacon Heights. The way the mountain drops off , you'll end up with a lot of the hills in the background which would be way better!
Julian Price Park campground gives you great proximity to the area. It's a good little campground, but it's been there for a long time and it's starting to show it's age. Another option is staying at one of the campgrounds down in Banner Elk near Grandfather Mountain. Cheers!
In the 5 years we lived there, that's not the feeling we got. And you do realize it's a vacation town so there's going to be a lack of "full time residents" especially due to lack of jobs. Remote workers or App State or WMS are the only companies worth working for there. the property was sold as a vacation property.
Y'all are just making me so homesick! It makes me question why I ever moved to Japan. But hey I just couldn't understand it when Reagan got reelected as well as senator Jesse Helms.

OMG. Excited to leave Boone for Houston? I can't wrap my head around that.
I didn’t hear them say Houston. But yeah, that would be insane
We are from Charlotte, so we love Boone to just get away. Thanks for the big reminder of how beautiful it is in the fall
You are welcome!!
Visited Boone frrom New Mexico. I loved it there. Culture shock for me. So beautiful. I wish i could live there.
I bet, that's a big change from NM to the tiny mountain town of Boone!
Thanks for this! I'm in Raleigh and love coming to Boone. I'm bringing my family soon and needed some cool things to do.
No problem! Hope y’all have a great time!
Boone is alot more beautiful than Asheville. I'll be staying in Boone next time.
So much! It's just a lot smaller and quieter.
Great tips and thank you!

We hope ya'll can as well! We're really hoping to find another town just like Boone, but with a *tad* bit less people.
I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and Boone is tiny and quiet to me. I like visiting

I've been to the area twice but not Boone - it is beautiful to see. I'll have to make a trip out there and see it. Nice video!
Thanks! Yeah it's definitely worth a trip up. Perfect weather in the summer. Such a special place!
Great video! Loved the fall colors!
Thanks Alecia!!
Thanks for the video and info! I’m going to hit up a few of these very soon!
Any time, have fun!
Really enjoy the narration as well as the views.

The Grand Canyon of the East is actually, Letchworth State Park, in western, upstate New York. Check it out, it’s breathtaking!
Good to know!!!
I saw you in Texas today!
hey hey! We were trying to not get blown off the freeway the wind was rough! LOL

Nice fall colors! To bad you can't keep the cabin, nice home base.
Great home base! Just a little too far East, and a little high on the mountain to get the RV in the driveway!
nice place.
It sure is!
My wife's Pawpaw and uncle helped build that section of the Blue ridge parkway
Nice!!
Meat camp used to be dirt and cops didn't dare come to that area up until late 90s, locals would shoot at them lol great memories 😉
Wow!
10:33 Face on the mountain from the ancient people 🎉
Oh neat!!!

wonder if Antlers is still in business in Blowing Rock- I blame that place for me having 2 senior years at ASU
lmao! Hey but memories tho right?
Mast Store in Valle Crucis is a working Post Office.
Good to know!
Hi there ,nice video . What’s the best area in the mountains to buy a cabin in North Carolina ? Do you recommend only Boone ?
If you want to be in a college town and deal with traffic on weekends then Boone it is. Fleetwood is about 45 mins away from Boone. It's a small, sleepy town. Very quiet but nothing in terms of jobs. Great if you work remote. Banner Elk is another option but it's likely more expensive then all of those. Where are you both from originally?
Hey Mary! I'm originally from TX and Brandi is from FL.
Is Howard Knob park a good place to meet a couple for an engagement session? Does the fence run across the entire view?
Slight correction the via duct grand opening was in Sept 1987
Thanks!
Where would you recommend camping in the area?

I've lived in Boone my whole life. God's country indeed.
For sure!
What is "West"? I.D.? Personally, I want to see New Hampshire, But cant handle that cold year round
Yeah we hear you there! Lots of farm stands in NH and Vermont. More than any place we've ever been.
Hunt for the miner/shine caves in Pottertown but ask first lol
Now that's some good info! Lived there for years had no idea about this.
I'm from Houston heading to App State wrestling camp to drop my son off for a couple of days. Any places you recommend for camping?
Unfortunately not. :( There's Julian Price campground, that's about the only place I know of to camp.
Nice video. But you realize Air B&B is part of the problem in Boone, right??? Hope you sold to a full time resident.
In the 5 years we lived there, that's not the feeling we got. And you do realize it's a vacation town so there's going to be a lack of "full time residents" especially due to lack of jobs. No beeech mountain 🤍🥺
Beech is great! Summer too.
Why do the producers of these things insist on cluttering them full of LOUD music that they like? This also interferes with the commentary.
Those dang producers!
"It's exploded in popularity. The infrastructure can't support it [...] and we've kept our house as an Air BnB."
House was sold a long time ago.
Y'all are just making me so homesick! It makes me question why I ever moved to Japan. But hey I just couldn't understand it when Reagan got reelected as well as senator Jesse Helms.
