  • Old meets new, as we compare goods traffic 100 years apart to celebrate the 100th birthday of GWR 2-8-0 2857. The locomotive is featured on the SVR's Great Western freight train, while GBRf Class 66, 66763 Severn Valley Railway operated a more modern freight.
Passenger services over the weekend were handled by 34027 Taw Valley, 7802 Bradley Manor, 1501 (no footage unfortunately), 7714 and a class 33 and 73 (also from GBRf).

I think the goods rake looks superb! Nice clank from the couplings on Victoria Bridge.

Great video - loved the wagons suddenly being strung out on Victoria bridge - methinks a bit too much power too quickly?!

As far as a goods gala goes, that was pathetic. Probaby because the 7VR hasn't got many goods wagons, unlike the GCR.

Clifford Woolston Let’s not disrespect the volunteers who have given up lots of time and energy to restore the wagons. The GWR goods train is still a fair representation of they would have been like. I’m no expert but it still looked pretty good to me. Just because all the wagons don’t match doesn’t make it bad, freight trains weren’t always the same wagon in bulk. All heritage railways offer a different experience so if a branch pick up freight isn’t your thing don’t disregard it as bad, many people find it appealing and it is realistic. And if you think the SVR don’t have enough good wagons, restore one yourself or shut up about it. Don’t be so rude towards the volunteers who actually get up and restore things so you can enjoy it.
