Its a little ironic how some folks get mad when we don't state that something is sponsored, then the other group of folks get mad when you do sponsored videos. Bottomline, anything I can do that allows me to still make a living while doing these videos, and doesn't mean I have to rely 100% on TH-cam (and their constant attempts to screw us over) Im all for it. This video was sponsored, yes. And yes I worked in IT for a LONG time dealing with printer problems on a corporate level...and it sucked! So taking a look at a Printer that promises to be much better experience is interesting to me. If it isnt interesting to you....why did you even click on it? I hope it wasnt just to complain.... because you know where that leads.
+JayzTwoCents I have worked as a printer tech, and still do a bit of it but not that much anymore. HP printers are pretty good, but they are a bit plastic-y I think. They are getting cheap as well, giving me less work because folks dont want to pay to get them repaired anymore. :/ Nice review though! Gonna use something similar if and when I get my business going. Sometimes you just need physical paper. ;)
+JayzTwoCents "IT guy" here. As you are an ex-IT person, you should have learned two things from your time in "paradise" 1) most people suck (not everyone, but you will always have someone who is a "keyboard warrior" and rants for no reason) 2) printers suck You need to do what you need to do to support your family, but more importantly love what you are doing. Keep up the great work, I think this is one of the few channels I have left on TH-cam technology wise since you have solid content that interests myself, and stay true to your roots (you know, the crappy jokes and all lol).
FINALLY A PRINTER REVIEW THAT DOESN"T SUCK....a review is a review... if you don't like it, skip it or go somewhere else no need to rant about it... I'm sure your hands and mind works. Nice work Jay... Keep it up... and by the way, If you like Tech... it doesn't matter if its a printer or a video card...
I've been using an older model of this (M277) at work for the past 6 months and am happy with it. I print about 50 pages a day and it's been reliable. The thing that stood out to me after upgrading was how fine and sharp it prints text and tables. I don't pay for toner, so I can't comment on value. Assuming this is an improved version of mine, it should hold up well.
... I randomly was looking for a video for work to show a user how to find a serial number... I find a JayzTwoCents video on the printer as a review.... I am dead set amazed. Thanks for brightening my day as I normally watch you vids for Modding stuff....
yes yes, but can you do a printer watercooling guide? make sure to use 4 reservoirs so they all get a different shade over time like your normal builds.
I am researching color multi-function laser printers for my daughter's new business. She is managing a fitness center and will be printing her brochures with her logo and client contracts. She will probably include some photos on her information sheets as well. This printer looks like it might be a good fit. Her office is small and there will be others who will use the printer as well. Thank you for a thorough walk-through.
I have a Gun Club that I opened last year, and have gone through 2 'home printers' and decided to buy this exact same printer. WOW...so impressive......printer is amazing in colors, fast, easy to use and the features are amazing. YOu can also hook up your google drive to the printer via remote and scroll thru your docs on the screen without the need for your laptop, phone, etc and print whatever you have on your google drive RIGHT TO THE PRINTER! I just can't say enough about this printer. I think anyone that buys this will be super happy!!
Got a few of these for one of the schools I support. My old printer in my office was horrible - had to reboot before and between every job. Having a great experience with the M477.
Trying to help a friend set up her printer. She's having an issue getting it to print from her computer. I'm tiinking she might not have printed the terms and conditions, which you showed that needs to be done. Thank you so much.
The one thing you neglected to mention jay is how much does the toner costs after the first cartridges runs out. It is a common practice for printer manufacturers to sell printers at a loss. And recoup those costs in the jacking up the prices of the printer/toner cartridges.
I know HP and we have them at work. the industrial printer that we use are Konica Minolta. At home I have said that no printer will ever come into my house again. with all the scanning you can do on a phone today I do think for the common user a printer is not necessarily anymore. I actually setup a printer for my friend who just started a small business him self and it was also a HP. They have come a long way. I think this one is a little big but it does look like it does great quality. great video as always
I'm an IT Director at Dart Container Corp and my location just got 4 of them and cant wait to get them out and start testing them. we have bunch of mixed and match printers here ranging from canon to hp to the big office sized biz-hubs and it'll be nice to have a all in one for a bunch of offices.
Hey I know you had a lot of people complain about this video but I'm considering buying this printer and I just wanted to say that it helped me out a lot and I'm closer to making a decision. Thanks!
So happy this video is here. I was literally just looking at this printer and was on the fence about buying it yesterday. This video just helped me decide.
Last time I supported printers in an office it was Kyocera, and the toner was $$$$. I have a Brother HL-2270DW (black & white only) at home for school work, and it works great for that. If I need to print something in color, I have an ancient HP 940c Deskjet to use for that.
And I have an ancient HP LaserJet 3200. It works great, but it only prints in black and white. We event sent a couple of faxes through Vonage, and it worked absolutely fine.
I'm not an IT employee but this printer is definitely drawing some of my attention. I'm currently kicking off my own business and this seems like a very practical solution for startups. Seems like it does everything I'm gonna need it to do and more.
I know your review was posted in April 2016 but I wanted to say that I bought one of these printers a year ago for my office (I run a small IT business) and I like the printer so much that I did a review of the printer on my channel in September 2017 and then a year later in 2018 I bought another of the same model printer for our house. We don't print a ton and scan more than anything but I've had zero problems on the printer I bought a year ago and it's very easy to set up and web interface makes it easy to hook up to network storage so you can easily and quickly with a couple pressed of buttons on the LCD screen scan pages directly to a mapped drive. and hopefully the same will be true for the one I bought for inside my house. For owners of this printer make sure you update to the latest firmware as it fixes a few bugs which I never experienced but still good to have the latest firmware! Cheers! :)
I work in IT, and I hate having to troubleshoot/fix printers. However, something like this seems really legit. I wouldn't mind having a printer that versatile and simple.
Hi Jay, I noticed a mistake in your video. Naming the ports on the back, the top port is host usb and middle is device usb. I recently did a review on the same Multi-Function Printer for my place of work.
Nice video jay, it amazes me people are really that against you making money. If you don't want to watch the video, don't watch it. The whole "youtubers shouldn't make money" ideology baffles me.
Right now there is a flash sale on at HP for this printer, it costs around $350 US. The price of the toner cartridges totals around $410. The bottom line, if you think you are going to need to print more than 2300 pages of full color, but 2 printers and save the second one for when the toner runs out on the first. :)
I own a Xerox Phasor 6500 color laser printer and I love it. The problem is the cost of replacing toner cartridges. I buy generic brands to save money.
Thank you for this video. We have had this printer for several years and I just now had to replace the black ink. I learned several things about our printer from your video. I printed out a checklist and notebook paper from the set up>quick forms menu.
We are using Minolta multifunctions are work and they are great (mostly due to the support that Konica Minolta gives us). I've got a similar HP laserjet at home and have largely had no problems with it. Occasionally, I have had issues with the printer drivers being wonky (and it may have been wonky due to the new rollout of windows 10 at the time) but otherwise has been very stable. I have the printer connected through wireless with no issue and while considering buying my wife a chromebook set up eprinting with no issues.
The big advantage of laser over ink is the fact that the toner doesn't dry up and clog the print head the way the ink does. I have recommended to everyone to buy laser since 2003 and I have been using them exclusively for myself since then also. I wish I had seen this review a few days earlier.
Mine is less than 6 months old and stuck in initializing mode. Tried everything that the technician recommended. Had to send it back. Apparently this is a common issue, turning your printer into a very large paper storage device.
Jay I'm sure someone said already, but the port on the back isn't Firewire, it's USB. Looks like they've come a long ways since they made my HP 3700N (4-color). Nice to have the wifi and integrated duplex scanning. Good video. :)
Used to be an HP certified printer tech before moving on to other things. It's truly amazing how far the tech has come. Started out working on LaserJet II's and all they did was black. They were built like tanks and not easy to work on as they are today. Changing pickup rollers was a pain, especially on a IIID. Basically had to split the unit in half. Your unit pretty much provides almost any feature a home user or small office could ask at a ridiculously low price compared to, say a LaserJet IIID (duplex) which had an MSRP of $4,995 in 1990 dollars. We're getting pretty spoiled with the nifty gadgets that are available to us these days. When are you going to do a plotter review?
My work used to have the little brother of this the m476 and the printer prints awesome however seems to have reliability problems. There is a binding issue and the only way to fix it is to pull it apart and release the gears. Regreasing it seemed to help. I am running it at home now and printed about 20 pages and so far so good. Thing only has 8000 pages printed from it.
I've got the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M476 and it is a workhorse. Print quality is superb and even with next to no toner it doesn't refuse to print - unlike my last Epson inkjet!!!
im a IT apprentice at a school atm, i liked the review. we uses HP 4250dtn. and alot of random differents HP printers. i dont even remember the name of those, its so many o.o
I used to work in marketing for HP. When I first got hired with them (2009), I thought I knew a lot about printers, was I wrong. HP actually put a ton of R&D into their printers and a few of their models are top class. Shame they don't put that same effort into consumer grade computers.
Thanks for the review. Does this printer do double sided coping and printing? I noticed you said it can do double sided coping, but I've read other reviews yhat said it does Not do double sided coping/printing. Also, have you had to replace the toner yet? thanks.
I don't understand hate on youtube videos like this... It quite clearly says that its a printer review in the title so if you're not interested don't watch it. its fairly simple Anyway, top class review as always Jay
So.... No information on the scan to email after you said it was a feature you really were looking forward too. Are you going to make another video on how that works? Does it function easily?
I actually really appreciate this video, Jay. Printers are still very important to any business and indeed to anyone's home network. I'll be in the market for a new one pretty soon so it's good to see the quality that is out there for such a reasonable price. I think I'll definitely be going with a LaserJet next as opposed to an inkjet. So thanks for the video, and ignore all the buttheads in the comments complaining. Keep up the good work!
I would like to see a review after about half a year of daily use (maintenance issues, print quality, paper feed, how long the toners last etc.) BTW you seriously cool with agreeing to terms of use by simply printing them out?
I've been looking at the M477fnw, M477fdw and the M477fdn. What Jay was saying at 12:37 about the double sided copies (being detected) would mean you would need the M477fdn or fdw as that has the duplex scanning and printing. Is that correct? You wouldn't be able to do the duplex scanning on the fnw?
Oh do you know what the differences are between the price points. Looks like it could a great small office all in one. Good video for small biz owners.
Hello Jays. I bought the HP Laserjet Pro m477 printer, all right, but I have a question: is normal a noise in the back, something like one trac trac trac when you print ?. In your video I do not hear noise when you're printing, why? regards
I have the MFP200 for the most part. Good printer. Cons, cartridges are expensive. HP estimates when you are out of ink and switches to black and white whether cartridge is empty or not. That is my biggest gripe. Doesn't allow you to continue printing and let you decide if colour print quality is sufficient for your use. Had a few issues of drop out of wireless connection too for no particular reason.
First tek syndicate now Jay, soon enough we're gonna start showing off our printers with our 4K UI display, water cooled components and 4 dimensional printing.
How quiet is it when it's printing? Is it loud like there's an elf inside jumping around with a hammer, like most home printers or is it fairly quiet? Also does it shake during printing?
pretty thorough review. nice printer. printers aren't nearly as poor quality as they used to be, at least as far as print quality is concerned. the biggest issues today are ink/toner cost and very crappy build quality.
i have an old HP printer and boy does it save the trouble to go outside to get a print. Printer i. my opinion is very underrated tech, which you don't appreciate until you get one, sort of like a 144hz monitor. Although I have to say that hp doesn't provide tech support for it anymore, couldn't download the driver for it and hence can't use wifi to print.
i have this printer and there is a big issue right now between ATT's internet service and this particular printer, the printer is not able to receive information from the router. For now there is no fix but if you dont have ATT its the best printer there is out there.
wanted to go with Epson simply because of the paper feed (had HP with paper feeding in a slight angle no matter what adjustment I did) but I might think again... thank you ! :)
Since many seem to be interested in the cost of toners for this thing a quick search showed the following. I'm sure there are much better prices to be had out there: Black Toner: HP410X high yield: $142.00 typical yield is 6500 pagers. Color toner: HP410X high yield: $190.00 typical yield is 5,000 pages. (You'd need to buy one of each color). Color toner cartridges should last much longer, unless you're a color printing monster. Most jobs are black only. New printers should automatically disable the color toners from cycling for only a black print job but be sure to consult the instructions to make sure that the setting for that is enabled. Used to be that they left the all the toners cycling during a print job which was just a waste, but they sold more toner cartridges!
Thanks Kevin for the price look up I thought they would be costly. I would think the yield would be better then 5,000 pages on the color toner cartridges. To replace the toner would cost more then the list price of the printer should we throw out the printer each time and buy a new printer instead of buying replacement toner LMFAO!!!
+Steve Bittner You're welcome. I should have pointed out in my original comment that those are for genuine HP toner cartridges. I'm sure that you could find cheaper third party cartridges out there. I did some more digging and found a third party toner bundle, all four cartridges, out there for $279.95 and claim 11,500 pages. Overfilled? So there are deals out there if you are willing to look and try something other than HP branded. But always go with a reputable merchant. HP, of course, does not recommend third party toner or ink cartridges. Cost per page can be a challenge when compared against ink jets. Either way pricing is like the razor and blade model. Sell the printer for as low as you can, make the money off the ink and toner.
I just got it and it doesnt print because it says memory error on one of the ink cartridges... What can i do...? I just got it a few minutes ago and tryed printing from computer but it doesnt printe because of that error
Is there such a thing as a all-in-one bubble-jet/laser printer ? I'd be okay spending for black toner because it does offer a lot of prints (and fast) for the money but spending for 4 right a way combined with much cheaper bubble-jet cartridges makes me kind of hesitant to buy a pure laser-jet one.

yes yes, but can you do a printer watercooling guide? make sure to use 4 reservoirs so they all get a different shade over time like your normal builds.
Thanks Mr. Jayz for that informative info
I've setup about ten of these printers at work, mostly for administration... They are a superb device.

Hey I know you had a lot of people complain about this video but I'm considering buying this printer and I just wanted to say that it helped me out a lot and I'm closer to making a decision.
Thanks!
It costs 400 bucks to buy 4 new cartridges for this beast. Printer itself costs around 500.
The official toners yes, but 123inkt.nl sort of will cost you 150$ or so
it's cheaper to buy rebuilds and not the original ones
Not sure I'd ever use this information or care about that type of printer but I love that you are branching out a little!
So happy this video is here. I was literally just looking at this printer and was on the fence about buying it yesterday. This video just helped me decide.
I almost ordered the M277DW last week, but now I might consider the M477!
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw is the one I have! Black toner lasts forever! Over 3 years now
great in depth review. thank you

My biggest concern is about the cost of toner. Any word on that for this line of printers?
Looks like a good printer, something we could use around the home office. My only question would be the cost of the toner.
This model has no duplex unit, I'd like to see it printing double-sided as "advertised".
Yeah the app on my Galaxy S9 plus says it has no double sided capability

I don't understand hate on youtube videos like this... It quite clearly says that its a printer review in the title so if you're not interested don't watch it. its fairly simple
Anyway, top class review as always Jay
Does this printer do steganography on you? Does it print the small yellow tracking dots? seeingyellow
Welcome to HP printers. I use them for over many years now. My new HP printer that I bot is a HP LaserJet Enterprise 700 Color MPF M775z+
I would like to see a review after about half a year of daily use (maintenance issues, print quality, paper feed, how long the toners last etc.)
BTW you seriously cool with agreeing to terms of use by simply printing them out?
My question would be how much are the replacement toner cartridges. And if it did IR printing this would be my new printer.
I've been looking at the M477fnw, M477fdw and the M477fdn. What Jay was saying at 12:37 about the double sided copies (being detected) would mean you would need the M477fdn or fdw as that has the duplex scanning and printing. Is that correct?
You wouldn't be able to do the duplex scanning on the fnw?
fnw is manual duplex
fdw and fdn are auto duplex, d = duplex
I wasn't expecting to be as interested in a printer as I was. That thing is sweet
Now, show us how to water cool it!
Nice review. Do you know the price for a set of toner?
wow im amazed on how quiet it was when it was printing, been shopping for a laser printer, just wished i could afford this beauty
Hi Jay, how to print double-sided and not using manual flip over? Is this one that can only do manual flip over?
When does the overclocking guide come out?
Haha, funny thing is I received delivery of one of these a week ago, and now you're reviewing it. :) Awesome printer; love it.
Have been looking for the right printer for work and you just chose for me... Thanks and, like always an awesome review
Thanks for helping TJ find his new car!
Can the M477FNW be 'fitted' with ADDITIONAL paper trays?
Can the printer print 'Legal-size' paper?
First tek syndicate now Jay, soon enough we're gonna start showing off our printers with our 4K UI display, water cooled components and 4 dimensional printing.
How quiet is it when it's printing? Is it loud like there's an elf inside jumping around with a hammer, like most home printers or is it fairly quiet? Also does it shake during printing?
Hi my printing colours are very dense, please can you tell us how to reduce that density?
pretty thorough review. nice printer. printers aren't nearly as poor quality as they used to be, at least as far as print quality is concerned. the biggest issues today are ink/toner cost and very crappy build quality.
i have an old HP printer and boy does it save the trouble to go outside to get a print. Printer i. my opinion is very underrated tech, which you don't appreciate until you get one, sort of like a 144hz monitor.
Great Job Jay! Don't worry about those haters ! Keep up the the good work!
wanted to go with Epson simply because of the paper feed (had HP with paper feeding in a slight angle no matter what adjustment I did) but I might think again... thank you ! :)
Since many seem to be interested in the cost of toners for this thing a quick search showed the following. I'm sure there are much better prices to be had out there:
Black Toner: HP410X high yield: $142.00 typical yield is 6500 pagers.
If you do not print for an extended amount of time (say 6 months) do the ink cartridges dry up or clog? Like my old HP did. Thanks.
is laser jet the same as laser printer? what is the best color laser printer that has the lowest cost ink replacement? thanks
I just got it and it doesnt print because it says memory error on one of the ink cartridges... What can i do...? I just got it a few minutes ago and tryed printing from computer but it doesnt printe because of that error
Keep doing HP Printer/MFP Laserjet reviews, Nice job!!
Thank you for taking the time to share this information with us!
Jay how do you enlarge/reduce on this printer model?
hay jay since u did a lot of upgrade to your pc why haven't u did a custom paint job or some mods done to it ? nice printer
Skunkworks? he custom painted almost all the parts in that
i think he got it like that from case lab.i was asking is he going to mod it or upgreade it some more.
never thought I'd like a video about a printer
Is there such a thing as a all-in-one bubble-jet/laser printer ? I'd be okay spending for black toner because it does offer a lot of prints (and fast) for the money but spending for 4 right a way combined with much cheaper bubble-jet cartridges makes me kind of hesitant to buy a pure laser-jet one.
I agree changing an ink or toner is a pain. Great video.
+El Diablo Really. More females need to be interested in technology.
Great video Jay
