Whoa now. ZB is amazing, but not the best ever. Maybe one of the better/best country/Americana writers, but he talks inspiration from Jason Isbell (the highest regarded songwriter in the sector) and BJ Barham or American Aquarium. As long as ZB stays on this path, he will be remembered for sure.
I agree. Jason Isbell I should dive into, but as of right now ZB is the best for me. He puts such complex things that most couldn’t completely encapsulate with words and does exactly that. He does it in such a simple way too, like everyone can just mfer stand it entirely.
I think the message behind this song is a lot deeper then people really understand. I think this is explaining his side of the divorce with elizabeth. I think after his mother died, he realized that she didnt believe in life after death, so in her mind, his mother is really gone. And he couldnt stand that thought which caused then to separate
I think that the moment where they are not quite synced up in the chorus is kind of like saying that they are both wanting the same thing, but they’re not on the same path to get it
He’s talking about his mom in the “lost her last July in a heart attack” line. He has a whole song about it called “she’s alright” that you should listen to.
What does this have to do with the narrative of this particular song though? The lyrics in this one are a little confusing. Also his entire first album DeAnn is about his mom's death and that came out in 2019.
he lost his mother and writes about it in nearly every song. and him saying he’s half way too his mommas home… too me says he’s going “home” (heaven) too be with her
With everyone else suggesting other songs, I think Zach deserves a full album review! Just blow it out the water, and gives a documentary, the man just crushes every track!
I just found your channel, but dude, I’m loving it. You’re a metal head from California getting into country and I’m a country guy from Alabama getting into Rock. Only music can do that. Keep up the great content
Reading these comments and hearing this song is about his mum passing has blown my mind a little. This song triggers something big time in me and makes me cry; I lost my mum a few years back.. I guess it hits a nerve without me even knowing why. Music is an amazing thing
Cool thing about the background noises is that the sirens at the beginning were actually coming from outside his window and he decided to leave them in since it was all recorded in one take. Same thing with the rolling sounds in the middle of the song which were the sounds of the wheels on his chair.
This song has a totally different meaning to me and I want to share my way to see it with you guys. I had just met this girl and was trying my best to make things work with her, I've been alone for years then, always closing doors to other people and this was a "new try" after a long time for me. But in the middle of those things, when I was "suffering" cause my efforts where not giving me the expected, my godfather died and this broke me in a way I can't explain. At the time I was just 24/7 listening to Zach and this song got a whole new meaning to me because of that. You see, I was caring so much about a girl, losing my dawns on it, and life came and knocked me down and I saw at that moment that the girl wasn't even that important, I was caring a lot for something not that important. But, one special day made this song so important. I remember I was lost in life, a week later after losing my godfather, few people knew cause I'm not that talker about my personal life and he lived far from my city, I went to play a championship in a new sport I was trying and this song started to play on the car when I was on my way, suddenly all the lyrics made sense, I'm caring much of a woman but I miss my godfather (like he miss his mom) and that is breaking me. Nothing was working out on my life, I was a 26 years old boy that had to come back to my parents city and house cause I was not able to fight my depression (which I have since I'm a kiddo) and things where NOT working for me at all, I had no perspective. On this day, with this song playing I just stopped the car and started cry like a little baby thinking about how unfair life was and how I was missing him. He was never a phisically present one at all, but was always that tipe of person who gave me a reason to believe I was a nice person, that I was good, always telling me how amazing I am and how much he loved me. At that moment I just started to repeat to myself "I need one small victory", I had played on that championship in the last day and got obliterated and had a new chance, this day I played with all my life, had the performance of my life, never played a game that good, and I won the fucking thing, I new it was for him, for my godfather, and since that day this song has a whole new meaning to me. You guys see, when he speaks about love being another drug, I understand him a lot, cause being a guy who suffered a lot with psychiatric issues, love just seems to be fucking hard and heartbreaking in a way I don't know if i'm capable of that. I was genuinely lost and just wanted to move on and have some wins on my life. Life is really as fleeting as the passin dawn. Today I'm "living" my life again and moved on in a lot of stuff, moved out of my parents house and things started working a little bit for me. I'm also investing in love again with a girl I know for almost 5 years who has been my best friend ever since, we always had someting but I donnou why, never worked out, maybe wasn't the time for that and now is, who knows? I'm trying to see the glass almost full right now. Also, I'm not that much of a religious guy, some people would even call my a atheist (which I'm not), I do have my own way to see a relation with someting bigger then us, I just like to thing in something bigger that gives us life to enjoy it in the simple way, be kind and loving and those songs are helping me to see things that way. Well, that's my story, donnou if I expressed myself in the best way, sorry if I did made some grammatical errors (english not my first language), hope everyone is ok, which you guys all the love, and remember, people who make us feel like we are a better person are rare and should be valorized. Ps: I had a guittar for 13 years and never learned to play, songs like those are making me want to learn now.
I am so amazed by the perfect contrast between Zach’s and Maggie’s verses. Zach is beating himself up because it took him too long to realize she wasn’t grounded in the same values as he was. Maggie’s lines prove that by saying she misses going out with her friends. Zach was unwisely all in and Maggie was almost indifferent.
About a year ago I used to hate country music but Zach opened me up to it and I love it. I can confidently say that not a single one of his songs are a skip for me.
Zach Bryan is greatest writer of all time. He has a strait poem without music on his album that is called “This Road I Know” and is beautiful. Also there’s a song called “Sunday Afternoon” only on TH-cam and is maybe my favorite of his!!
There’s a song he has called crooked teeth, I think you would love the guitar parts in it I loved learning them at least and the song is pretty awesome lyrically love your zach reactions tho keep it up!
I'm sure someone has already touched on this but he did lose his mom to cancer. His Opryland debut was supposed to be heading south but he decided to sing unknown song about his mom titled "Sweet Deann". Awesome outlaw flex!
When they start singing at the end together, I feel like it's sort of a symbology thing where the two aren't in tune, they're not on the same page. As for the lyrics about his mother, he's saying he lost her last July, and now this. Saying he misses her southern draw and praying through the walls, to me, says he's at her house, alone. Surrounded by all those memories and hurt. The guys on another level, that's clear. He could disappear today and we'd have enough music to get us through until we're gone too.
It's like he's bouncing between simultaneous heartbreak. Loss of a mother and a woman at the same time. Using the names dawn for them and tying it into the dawn of the days where it really hits him
For me it reminds me of my grandmother. She was like a second mother when my parents were working two jobs a piece to put food on the table. Lost her in 2015 to a heart attack so hard to watch someone go at only 66 years old only a day after my birthday. I love her to death I just wish she was still here with us today
Would love to see what you think of Zach Bryan's song 68 Fastback. To me he's a lyrical genius and 68 Fastback is truly an ultimate come back from a bad place kinda song.
This song is absolutely incredible! I don't know how this Kid does it absolutely killing it every time. I do have a recommendation I don't know if it has popped up in the comments yet but The Steel Woods - Straw in the wind. They have a bunch of great songs highly recommend checking them out!
Zach is talking about his mom who he lost and Maggie is talking about a freind who she lost, they body broke up so they need to heal and they go back to there “shelter” ig that’s how I see it
he’s talking about his mom, he has an album dedicated to her and he a lot of lines about her…. it’s kind of confusing with the verses and chorus having different meanings… but the chorus is definitely an homage to his mother who passed away 3 years ago.
I think it's more about his mom. He lost his mom in a heart attack which killed him on the inside. He tried to get into a relationship to fix it but just realized it was a Band-Aid. He was hit with a rush of emotions one morning, so he left before his girlfriend could wake up. He went to his mom's house to mourn there and realized he needs to get out of this relationship. He'd been wrestling with his mom's death and knew that if his girlfriend didn't believe in Jesus, she would only slow him down healing. He went back to get his records so that he could get back to his roots and heal the right way, not just a Band-Aid. She is left regretting not talking about Jesus because she wishes that she could have helped him heal. He ends up realizing that he is in no place for a relationship and needs to heal before he gets involved with anyone else.
Loving the reactions to amazing singer songwriters. You have to look up City and Colour if you've never heard them. Dallas Green is behind the group and was part of the hard rock band Alexisonfire. Dallas is one of the best lyricists of our generation. His music is poignant an emotional. His music always walks you down a story of emotions. Check out his new single "Meant to Be". It's incredible.
I agree!!!! Also his rendition of Alice in Chains....Rain When I Die! Just the way he sings this makes it all the more beautiful and meaningful!!!! Meant to Be is as beautiful! He is truly one of a kind.
at around (9:25, he shows him hugging a girl, i think the heart attack was his mom, but he met that girl that was " the victory". whatever the real story is , his way of words forces us to engage in a strange way. its all subjective and relatable from any angle.
Theres so many subtle things, it seems like a lot of the deeper meaning to the song is miscommunication between lovers that couldve saved it or helped eachother, even in the melodies like you mentioned they are not completely together while harmonizing i definitely feel like thats intentional to symbolize the misconnection
I think it is a song about two sides .. Two sides to every fight/reason behind behavior... he lost his mom last july to a heart attack...he realizes life is short after this also wants a break in life something to be happy about and thought he would have found peace/light with this girlfriend and he didnt. I think she is done with him living in his grief of loosing his mom..wants him to get out of the sadness...and see that life continues...she misses going out and living..out to bars enjoy shooting start dont worry about whats left of us. I love this song!
I really think the song is about him wanting his mothers comfort during a breakup but she died from a heart attack. Maggie runs to her best friends house for comfort.
I think the heart attack is referring to his mom, who “prayed through the walls in the evening” and he misses her because she wasn’t there to help him through his hard times
Bro, you’re so good at this. I love your reactions. I wish sometimes you would consider expanding the genres ….. because your insight is so on point. PLUS….as a guitar guy….yeah, you’re bad ass
I saw a tiktok speculating that when his mom died last year, he started diving even deeper into religion to give him some hope that he didn't just lose her for "nothing". And the new deeper perspective on religion created some tension in his previous marriage causing it to end. That makes a lot of sense if you listen back.
The song is basically about how he lost his mom and he believes in heaven and she doesn’t so he’s like if she believe in heaven than his mom is just gone but if there is a heaven she’s still with him
saw a girl show her perspective on it saying how when he says “she never said a thing about Jesus” and how she doesnt talk about it that means she wouldnt believe in heaven and so she wouldnt be there with him and his mother. but she says “i believe in something bigger than both of us” and how when hes “half way to his mommas house” is him half way to heaven. and shes “half way to her best friends house” to mourn him. idk if i explained that well she explained it way better but i love it
At 5:32, maybe Zach's talking about how he should have brought her home to mom but didn't? Connecting that idea to the whole "never said a thing about Jesus" line.
His mom did pass it broke his heart he wrote a few songs about it like November air, Deanne and even 5th of July he wrote from his father's perspective
My interpretation of it is that he has to believe in Jesus so that he’ll see his mom again and the fact that she didn’t say she does believe means that he wouldn’t see his mom again. Thats the small victory he needed. For her to believe that he’ll see his mom again
I’m convinced Zach Bryan is the greatest of all time, I am never sick of his music and I love every single one of his songs so much.

Billy Stay is by far some of the best story telling in a Zach song, hands down, definitely gotta check that one out
I second that, u would really like this one
I third that lol
I 4th that
The like the live version of that song way more for some reason
Red rocks version
I think the message behind this song is a lot deeper then people really understand. I think this is explaining his side of the divorce with elizabeth. I think after his mother died, he realized that she didnt believe in life after death, so in her mind, his mother is really gone. And he couldnt stand that thought which caused then to separate
I think you’re exactly right
song is a double entandra about addiction and closure
that's an interesting interpretation, i have heard this song a zillion times and never saw it from that angle.
dang that's smart "it was my mistake that she never said a thing about Jesus" for sure you are right
I think that the moment where they are not quite synced up in the chorus is kind of like saying that they are both wanting the same thing, but they’re not on the same path to get it
That was my interpretation as well.
Omg wow! I always admired that choice and your interpretation of the reason makes it that much more genius!
Yes it's alluding to their misconception their miscommunication
He’s talking about his mom in the “lost her last July in a heart attack” line. He has a whole song about it called “she’s alright” that you should listen to.
thats my second favorite one 😭❤️ i lost my dad 3 days ago

68 Fastback by Zach Bryan is such an amazingly well written song I’d love to see you react to it!
I’ve been asking him so react to this for so long
that song was brilliant. speaking from a humans pov through a cars perspective. idk the term for that, but it was absolutely genius
All of Zachs music tells HIS story!
Jamie by Zach is an awesome story about a lost lover and coping with it. Highly recommended
Favorite Zach Bryan song by far. Very underrated
Great song
BILLY STAY by zack Bryan is one of the best well written song ever made

i love this song and you are probably one the best reactors too. I recommend listening to Fifth of May or Dark by zach bryan as well
5th of may

Music that makes you think is always on another level. You can only get so much out of a catchy hook. ✌️
Highway boys is a good and fun song by Zach.
I really have been feeling this song lately, especially the "I need one small victory" line.
i got to see dawns performed live for the first time
I've had this song on repeat all day. Absolutely love Zach's storytelling. I think you'd like If She Wants a Cowboy by Zach Bryan!

yea, he is referring to his mom, he lost her when he was around 13 maybe younger i believe, the album deann is dedicated to her bc that was her name.
I think she died in 2016, he would have been 20
Bam!
I would love to see your reaction to Hardy’s “Radio Song” from his new album!!
I Reacted to the whole album on a live stream :) Check it out. The pinned comment on that video also has all the time stamps :)
@@FischtankProductions I know what I’m doing for the next two hours
Gotta listen to mom part again my friend.
At 5:32, maybe Zach's talking about how he should have brought her home to mom but didn't? Connecting that idea to the whole "never said a thing about Jesus" line.
Cicadas dude it’s really underground under rated but just absolutely beautiful story telling
You gotta check out “I remember everything” by Zach
Sean McConnell paved the way for these guys. Would love to hear you listen to his stuff. “Looking for a good time” is a great one.
If you haven’t yet you need to check out Muscadine Bloodline. Evinrudin, Me on You, and their new one Inconvenience Store id think you’d really like
His mom did pass it broke his heart he wrote a few songs about it like November air, Deanne and even 5th of July he wrote from his father's perspective
His entire first album DeAnn talks about his mom's death. It's a really good, but sad, album.
My interpretation of it is that he has to believe in Jesus so that he’ll see his mom again and the fact that she didn’t say she does believe means that he wouldn’t see his mom again. Thats the small victory he needed. For her to believe that he’ll see his mom again
Man, I really would love to see u listen to "As Time Passes" by Sam Barber almost like a mix of Tyler Childers and Zach
Please react to his song 'If She Wants a Cowboy". It's a satire that criticizes Nashville country.
