Muuuuuchas gracias
Actually I have and its probably my favorite version, but that does not disqualify me from recognizing talent and a young mans flair when I see it or does it?
My compliments to the conductor, Lang Lang, and the entire orchestra on delivering a faultless rendition of George Gershwin's- Rapsody in Blue. I heard it as a youth and every time I've listened to it by other, seldom has it been exactly performed as this.
True. I've heard versions where it's more classical & they have a big sound but they don't capture the jazz licks and the verve this needs. Others also with smaller orchestra but still not as experienced and without the kind of energy this has. This has such a beautiful, lively, big huge sound. It's like they're playing it for a movie soundtrack.
This is the most thoroughly modern interpretation of this piece that I have ever heard. It's always been one of my favourite pieces of music and now I have a favourite favourite!
Lang Lang you are a brilliant performer. Apart from your amazing interpretation (and the orchestras')I love your total enjoyment in playing this fantastic music. Your facial expressions show your complete absorption
Absolutely out of this world: of all Rhapsody's renditions, Lang Lang's performance brings it to light as no other! A true tribute to Gershwin's genious! Wildly captivating!
Obrigado!!! Obrigado!!! Obrigado a quem postou!!!! =)
i very much enjoy the little flairs and small additions (like changing a straight scale to a chromatic scale, adding appagiaturas, to spice up the music up a little yet not deviating from the score. i have played Rhapsody in Blue many times over 20 yrs, and NEVER thought of these little things in my performances. they are very much in taste, and i thing George Gershwin would have enjoyed them
What a beautiful performance and recording. The camera work is amazing, showing the soloists playing and also the whole concert hall from different angles. Lang Lang plays with a lot of grace and sense of humor, it's fun to watch his face that expresses many feelings. Lovely performance. Check this piece played with a melodica ensemble too.
Love or hate him, he always makes me laugh. I do love this guy even if I disagree with some interpretative decisions. Imagine being the conductor and having to argue with him about what's actually in the score lolol
Specifically at about the 10 minutes mark, he plays it "swung" which is definitely not indicated in the score, and also at the time the piece was written ,"swing" was not actually a THING. Also he harmonizes some short run there in thirds which is totally unnecessary and not what Gershwin wrote. Lang Lang is a prodigy, Gershwin was a genius. There's a big difference, and I get very annoyed when prodigies think they have musically more to say than the geniuses. Obviously it's a technically challenging piece, but too many pianists treat the solo piano parts as open candenzas in which they can just do whatever. There are points in this performance where I feel he's being purposely contrary to certain musical expectations, which I kinda respect because of his talent, but I also think it's an asshole move.
Well, YOU look at him! If this is your idea of a "delightful presentation", you'd better stay away from concerts by genuine, dignified, unsmiling pianists. You'd be bored to death.
I have listened and loved this piece of music all my life. and Lang Lang's rendition is amongst the best I have heard to date. He really understands the piece and his technical mastery of it is really impressive. He makes it look easy, and I have seen and heard pianists the likes of Leonard Bernstein perspiring while playing it. Bravo!

Ho i capelli bianchi.

Impossible to compare this fabulous piece of musical genius with any other.
I've been listening to this piece every since I was a little kid and this was by far the most enjoyable rendition I've ever heard. Lang Lang's remarkable style and improvisations added a very nice touch, and it was refreshing to see a pianist as engaged in the music as him. He was not only a performer, but a listener as well. BRAVO!!
Amazingly Absolutely BOMB-BASTIC 💯 FANTASTIC ..
LOVE the Emormity of Gerswhin Composer❤ The Curious Excitement of the Orchestra.. A Conductor who is Music Genious Actor ... AND Finger Fantastic Extraudinar LANG LANG .. Oh all Blessings to unforgettable note pouring Bliss Mr Clarinet ...
I will DREAM all Delights with thanking GOD for these 'ANGELS' ❤
Thank you, maestro Berstein. And all men abord, for shure 🤗🎆🧨
A wonderful master piece by a one of those master musicians on this planet.
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
To sergebreton: See my remarks to "meteor" above.
Impressive, he plays it with a sort of flair and brilliance I had not seen before
simply while you never had seen bernstein 1976...
Actually I have and its probably my favorite version, but that does not disqualify me from recognizing talent and a young mans flair when I see it or does it?
I've seen Bernstein's play this just before this, and I must say I like Lang Lang's version better :P
simply while you have never seen Bugs Bunny 1946...
giavano almagu people have different opinions. I honestly like Lang Lang's better, but Bern was still amazing.
I like how the hall is blue for Rhapsody in Blue
those germans are geniuses
I can see it, but never put the two together. Thanks for the trivia.
me tooooooo
Have a look and listen, folks. This what pure genius is!
HAH!! LOL.
Sure.
Lang Lang s face expresses every note . He is a joy to see and hear. Thank you God
Yeah… And I smile from the beginning. 😉😁
Utter genius of both Gershwin and Lang Lang. I'm exhausted!!
It's amusing (and informative) to see how frequently the word "genius" is thrown about in these comments. Talk about trivializing!
It's just a fact. Not trivialising at all.@@richardvolpe7664
My compliments to the conductor, Lang Lang, and the entire orchestra on delivering a faultless rendition of George Gershwin's- Rapsody in Blue. I heard it as a youth and every time I've listened to it by other, seldom has it been exactly performed as this.
This was the only performance I've seen where the real Gershwin spirit was captured. Magnificent!

True. I've heard versions where it's more classical & they have a big sound but they don't capture the jazz licks and the verve this needs. Others also with smaller orchestra but still not as experienced and without the kind of energy this has. This has such a beautiful, lively, big huge sound. It's like they're playing it for a movie soundtrack.
absolutely brilliant.George Gershwin was amazing they sure were great song writers in the olden days.
pare brough George Gershwin is from the 20 century
This is the most thoroughly modern interpretation of this piece that I have ever heard. It's always been one of my favourite pieces of music and now I have a favourite favourite!
How can someone even play this well? This kind of talent comes by once in a generation or less. Incredible.
Lang Lang you are a brilliant performer. Apart from your amazing interpretation (and the orchestras')I love your total enjoyment in playing this fantastic music. Your facial expressions show your complete absorption
I Love to see Lang Lang
Play this because
He seems to really Enjoy
Playing that Paino.
Bravo BRAVO.
Absolutely out of this world: of all Rhapsody's renditions, Lang Lang's performance brings it to light as no other! A true tribute to Gershwin's genious! Wildly captivating!
George Gershwin is certainly a legend! The best composers are the ones who make you FEEL something, not just as if you're listening to it.
Lang Lang always makes me feel as if the piano loves how he plays it!
I absolutely love how he plays
Obrigado!!! Obrigado!!! Obrigado a quem postou!!!! =)
Oui! La joyeuse volupté de jouer magistralement ❤
❤Gershwin would certainly be proud of such a performance of his composition.
Happy 100th birthday Rhapsody in Blue 💙
I love the way he performs with his own feeling and emotions. Gorgeous!
between the pianist and the conductor I cant decide who's expressions are funnier, actually the whole orchestra was hilarious.
do you not know who lang lang is lol
The composer is the most hilarious in the heaven.
@@thinktriple4282 Dont you mean earth?
Breathtaking, incredible...you decide. Composition, Interpretation, Performance...SUPERB !!!
Some Ragtime, a little romance, a lot of bravado, an entire saxophone section and awesome soloists? I smile whenever I hear this piece.
The opening tune (probably one of the most fetching openings:) such a responsibility for the clarinettist!
Today is my fathers birthday and he told me from Gershwin - thank you Dad - died 2013 - thak you Lang Lang and orchestra!!! So much!!
i very much enjoy the little flairs and small additions (like changing a straight scale to a chromatic scale, adding appagiaturas, to spice up the music up a little yet not deviating from the score. i have played Rhapsody in Blue many times over 20 yrs, and NEVER thought of these little things in my performances. they are very much in taste, and i thing George Gershwin would have enjoyed them
😢❤A beautiful Rhapsody and beautifully played! Bravo!!😊
Excellent performance.
Hadn’t seen such an expressive piano soloist in a long time.
Love or hate him, he always makes me laugh. I do love this guy even if I disagree with some interpretative decisions. Imagine being the conductor and having to argue with him about what's actually in the score lolol
OMG RIGHT? Some of his choices literally made angry
The horn section "bwwwwrattttfttttt" at 16:20 is fucking weak in this version. That's a vital moment they shat the bed on.
Also 17:12, no one is listening to each other. WTF is that.
@@Navonodo just stay with the version you regard as appropriate. Bernstein? Previn?
I've seen others attempt at this classical Gershwin but never had been able to close my eyes and see George playing. You are the bomb homie!!!!
Lang Lang makes music tell the story. Love it.
To pammoss: Yes, and the plot of the story is "Watch me and adore what you see."
Lang Lang is having great fun, which is in tune with this amusing piece. Thumbs up to the audio engineer also. Salutations depuis Montréal.
Is anyone else addicted to this magnificent ent performance s?????❤
Well, I'm not exactly addicted to this facial and finger performance. Embarrassed? Yes. Repulsed by it? Hell, yes!
I do not care too much about the whole "professionals" here, and their critics. It is a joy and great piece of entertainment. Thank you.
I have heard and seen hundreds of performances of this beautiful Gershwin concerto. Lang’s performance was among the best. Bravo! 👏👏
Hundreds of performances? Personally, I wouldn't want to hear 100's of performances of ANYthing!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂🎉🎉😂🎉
Look at the man! Madly and deeply in love. What a delightful audiovisual presentation! Thank You!
Well, YOU look at him! If this is your idea of a "delightful presentation", you'd better stay away from concerts by genuine, dignified, unsmiling pianists. You'd be bored to death.
@@richardvolpe7664 ok anything else?
No, that's about it.@@dong5623
I have listened and loved this piece of music all my life.
and Lang Lang's rendition is amongst the best I have heard to date.
He really understands the piece and his technical mastery
of it is really impressive. He makes it look easy, and I have seen and heard
pianists the likes of Leonard Bernstein perspiring while playing it. Bravo!
I love Lang Lang's expressions. Seeing the passion on his face while playing this beautiful piece is great!
You perceive that sappy smiling as 'passion', of all things?
Lang Lang is a fantastic pianist. What a joy it is to watch and listen to him play. Keep on keeping on!
Ho i capelli bianchi.
❤
8:43 freaked the conductor out lol.
What makes lang lang….lang lang is how expressive he is and how happy he is to play the piano. Amazing person and artist.
All these comments about his "happiness" in playing the piano! As if the world's other pianists are miserable wretches, hating every note they play.
Wow.....just before this video I watch a different video about this piano work with a good pianist and then ......this... , Lang Lang!,....another World , a multicolor paradise!....I could see images with the sounds by this formidable artist.
I love how Gershwin starts, stops, teases, and interweaves his themes. It's really like a musical version of a very well done striptease.
Espectacular!
What a wonderful interpretation by Lang Lang. What talent: it is amazing!
To-be-continued: Lang Lang is truely wonderful and the orchestra 'almost' sounds like Paul Whiteman's bunch, just a bit larger. . . Thx, whoever posted it!! When a child I heard this rhapsody for the first time and was stuned. I was six or seven and NEVER forgot the experience.
Hands down the best recording of Rhapsody in Blue
Bryan Villegas - *one of the best. All of the players were phenomenal
Lang Lang's interpretation is among the best, however I've heard recordings with stronger brass that I really liked.
Bernstein...
He breathes life into it! All this time I´ve been waiting for something like this! Hurra!
I think I speak for everyone when I want to hear the applause at the end
Amazing performance by Lang Lang and the Orchestra. Wonderful conductor.
The clarinet player is really brilliant.
The blue tint of this concert hall is beautiful it goes well with Lang Lang's joyful performance of this masterpiece.
Love the joy on the solosists face! More of this is needed! Wonderful performance.
Pianist obviously enjoyed playing this, and he is great at his interpretation. I truely enjoyed listening to this arrangement.

Yaimdan please never say that again
Haha indeed, 3:47 is good too XD
I like that Lang Lang shows his personality in his playing. His facial expressions are not only amusing, but they evoke his true passion for the music he is bringing out of the piano. Well done.
His facial expressions are anything but amusing, for god's sake! And since when is "true passion" shown by the unbearable, silly-ass smiling? He's a shameless showman, and between those last two words, you can insert another that also starts with "sh".
Thank you for choosing United
