Margot Robbie wore black because she wanted to take the spotlight off of herself, and instead let America Ferrera have her moment. Margot took the backseat and let America wear a pink dress, since only America was nominated. I think that was a kind gesture and an act of support for her co-star.

As far as Cillian Murphy's future in Hollywood, I don't think he's going to be big like Tom Cruise, but he'll be able to stick to more prestige projects, and probably be more of a constant in getting nominated. I see him as a sort of Daniel Day-Lewis.

Ryan planned the entire "I'm Just Ken" thing, including exactly what line he wanted Emma Stone on. He decided on the homage to Marilyn Monroe, even though a lot of younger reviewers compared it to Madonna. In an interview at SXSW he commented that his daughters were sitting at the dress rehearsal where Greta and Margot were and they were cheering him on and sending him really good notes.

Better is subjective though and you actually do need to consider how well established Emma is now compared to her first films which were even more popular than Poor Things but I agree in that PT offers more nuance and variety compared to Barbie. If that is what one ultimately prefers, of course they wouldn’t see the merit in something that is intentionally full of more brevity.

It’s a fun movie about a girls toy with some feminist messages thrown in there. Not too much deeper than that. The way Grace talks about it though you would have thought it kicked off the feminist cultural revolution that instilled a matriarchal society 😂 Sorry Grace nobody else thinks of it like that.

  • @SilverScale.
    @SilverScale. 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

Grace, the thing about Poor Things is that she doesn't REMAIN a child's mind, she grows up pretty early on in the movie, and it's made clear that she does -- and in fact the adult Bella's experiences reflect a lot of AUTISTIC and NEURODIVERSE experiences IRL, including receiving infantilization from others. When she is young and ppl are taking advantage of her, that's meant to reflect on how men objectify and use women, and take advantage of them, and that commentary IS supposed to be uncomfortable. But what's clear the whole time is that Bella knows her mind and will regardless, and that's the beauty of it. The men suffer because they don't respect her will. It's a great movie, once in a decade kind of movies, and I would have hoped your read on it would have been more on the mark. Emma Stone pulled out all the stops, and deserved the award. She had more screen time than Lily, and was a central character, which Lily's character should have been as well. She deserved her Oscar. Love ya anyway, though Grace! ☺

To be fair though, this is bound to happen when we've turned everything into a trend. And past a certain point this had happened, I guess.
This cheapens even some good causes, regardless of what is achieved short-term.
But, not that the trolls needed that excuse to try and gain popularity to the point where they're trendier than words like diversity and inclusion, etc. Actual political situations alone have been enough fuel for them. And you can't/shouldn't argue with lunacy and whataboutism. You can just expose it and move on. That is, if they'll let you, because what I've gathered is that they're always trying to ignore and dismiss anything in that direction. Brave men, alpha orcs or something xD

Don't say that Lily Gladstone won't have another chance to win an Oscar. Support representation and roles for talented actresses like Lily Gladstone instead. The Native Canadian actress Tantoo Cardinal has had an illustrious acting career, and Lily Gladstone has 20-30 years ahead of her with Academy Award nominee attached to her name. We should use these online platforms to create buzz and enthusiasm for artists we support - if we're going to say that it's over for her, that's not on Lily, that's because of the status quo. I would rather put the spot light on Lily.

What say you, Grace, would that also be "great"?

For maybe the second or third time, the In Memoriam sequence was shot by a camera in the theater, so the viewers at home saw the performers on stage but couldn’t read the names of those being remembered. Saw a few posts on Facebook of how disrespectful this was, and I agree 100%.

I’m also annoyed by this. Well at least the audience didn’t clap for certain people during the in memoriam like they’ve done in the past.

"I think people like to create reasons for why people don't win the award but if it isn't in the official rules it shouldn't matter."
    Grace, previously in the video:
    Emma already has an Oscar.
Lily may not get a chance at another Oscar.
    Emma has connections in Hollywood.
The decision for best actress in a leading role was right on the money last night. Emma deserved the win.

Was Emma Stone’s ‘Poor Things’ win similar to Halle Berry’s role for Monster’s Ball? What I mean by that is that both performance were good, but what I believe sent them both over the top from Oscar contenders to WINS was the sheer bold, raw, raunchiness and sexuality of their performances! What say you?🤔
