- Graded video games have been an absolute rollercoaster over the past few years, but that's not really the case anymore...

Video game collecting and investing TH-cam with emphasis on vintage video games. Grading VGA and WATA retro collector. Gaming with consideration on rarest games ever or most expensive games. Talking about N64, NES, Super Nintendo, DS, 3DS, Sega Mario and More!
How do you feel about buying/selling/collecting sealed and graded games now in 2024!? Been a heck of a rollercoaster these past few years.
I'd say it's still cheap.I got a Mr. Mosquito 9.8 A+ for $350
buying very carefully, but I've been active buying again since early 2023. Maybe a handful of stupid purchases where I'm down some, but they weren't high dollar, so it was no big deal. I usually hit on a decent % of them. Just got to be careful.
@@hw5091I’d go find cheap ps2, Xbox 360. I recently got a gear of war 2 DNSB 9.8 A+ for under $300
Just super glad that things have stabilized a bit more now and looking forward to what the near future brings in for pricing.
I can hear you from here Greg!
Let's pause the moment to say Greg has the best hair in the game. 😎
my man
This past year has had a ton of value available
I want to watch the auctions live, but usually can't... Thanks for doing these recaps and general market videos.

How are the kids going to play Japanese Pokemons if it’s stuck in a plastic case? How Greg??
F dem kids
Some people seem to forget or ignore that these price drops from Covid highs also happened in sports cards and other collectibles. I have a PSA 8 1986 Fleer Jordan. That card was going for 35k at its peak in 2021. Today it routinely goes for ~7k.
Exacctttllyyy. But the majority of people who ever talk about graded games don't actually have a macro scope across multiple collecting categories
what's your take on his 1984 XRC taking four decades to finally pass his 1986 RC*??
@GetTheGreg the majority of people or just you, Greg
The majority of Gregs
Fantastic video, man.
Another great video, Greg. Would love to hear your thoughts on if you think another boom would ever be possible, or would even happen again vs an opposite situation with a sudden decline in collecting. I realise you kind of mentioned your thoughts in this vid, but it’s also kind of its own topic.
Any reasonable person would acknowledge that prices from the boom period were not sustainable and are not a realistic benchmark. How the current prices compare to the preboom prices is a more realistic comparison ..
And compared to pre-boom, this market is still flying high haha
I know for sure there are going to be many more of those unopened Japanese pokemons hitting the market.
Absolutely love the Channel, Greg!
You've helped me make much better decisions on collecting and saved much more money doing so.😁😁😁
Hey that's so awesome to hear! Cheers man!
That Super Mario World is mind boggling, that A seal with 9.4 going for 125k! Also, that 40k for Japanese Red, when I'm sure people up until recently could probably snipe them for 200-500 bucks in Japan
Yea dude. The latest comp was a CGC 9.4A for $43,000 haha. Another instance where it's just hard to predict where this ultra high-end stuff will fall in any given auction
Quality advice and summary Greg - I agree that the 1K to 5K is where most people that are collectors live in. And there is consistency and predictability for your high demand titles…I’m not sure titles like Little Sampson and Snow Bros are worth what mario and zelda and pokemon sell for. Sorry but I would feel alot more comfortable collecting something that I know someone else, and many others want to own. Nobody’s personal Grail is snow bros…
I agree fully with you on that. If we are taking 20k and it's snow bros against Zelda, give me Zelda every single time!
Great video and breakdown as always. Understanding the graded game market requires a level of nuance that most content creators don't have, but Greg does!
Cheers dude!🥳
Cannot believe someone paid 40k for the Japanese Red 😮
Thanks for the recap Greg. Always interesting to bear your insight.
Bear rawr 🐻
@GetTheGreg meant "hear" but ehh lol I'll leave it
Hahah I know you did, but I liked the type
45k on Japanese Pokémon red seems crazy
Cheap
@@GetTheGreg If only it was 45k Canadian, I could just drop a few quarters out of my pocket to pay for it. (and have some change left over, depending on the exchange rate that day)
I'm seeing a lot of CGC seals. They really came in heavy. I wonder if the resell value is on par or better than WATA.
Just as a quick general statement, I'd say par or slightly less
the first resident evil ever printed as well as the first metal gear and final fantasy 7 all perfect and japanese edition will go on for sale this month, I guess we will see if the japanese market is picking up.
Those are all in the Japanese showcase I take it!? It will be verrrryyy interesting
13:46 Yes. As with most things, true knowledge comes with time. The more you engage, follow, watch, analyze, plan, the more patient you are, the wiser decisions you'll make. 👍
I'd kinda agree a little bit with your last statement. We're nowhere near 2017, but like you said, we're still truckin' but slower and more methodically than during the boom.
I feel the $20k and up prices are bonkers and that the normie titles aren't that interesting, but the MM1 is something I'd consider VERY special. It was my pick for highest seller.
And boy, I'd wish we had more info on those computers! So fun to see those unicorn in here :D
I like this video style
40k for japenese is insaaaane. Espesially since they're NS I think makes it even worse.
I'd much rather have a lower grade NA red or a 9.8 later installment game. You can buy some damn good NTSC pokemons for 43k.
For 43k... You can literally buy almost anything in the hobby these days hahah😅
Greg, have you covered in any of your videos how you package items that you are sending to Wata or other grading services? Thanks. MJ
Zelda sold for way low because it's CGC and people don't value CGC because of the low grading fees and the reputation behind CGC.
Hmm, not buying this. What reputation is that?
Cgc looks way better than the other two don't change my mind
@@apebitmusic83 MJ Moonwalker got recalled from Heritage Auction because CGC graded a FAKE seal.
@@Rspsand07 False, CGC slabs look bland, tasteless. They have no curves, boring! I will admit, that the new CGC premium edition there doing look much better. However it does not change the fact there are literally 30 Mega Man on PS2 CGC graded for sale on Ebay. Graded games are expensive because rarity, it's not rare to find CGC graded games for any games worth $100 or lower, they are a influx of them.
Cmon Greg, spill the tea. Who bought the pokerman?
I am sworn to client secrecy 👀
spending thousands of $ for a game is crazy.
Guess what hasn’t really dropped in price when it comes to games….
Non graded ones….Glad I stayed in that lane and never graded anything even though I have probably 100 sealed games.
Still wonder what happened with those two dkc sales
Makes no fricken sense to me
I am also enjoying games I thought I’d never own
Pretty much. When it was dealers and fractional share companies competiting, it seemed no cared what they spent on this stuff. Nice to see "grails" back in the hands of people who care about them
yes greg does have the best hair in the game i agree.
😂
Was listening as I was playing my snes clsssic and was wondering if those are grade-able too?
Haha if you have one brand new, yup, VGA sure will 😅
FIRST LETS GO GREG🥳🥳🥳✨️
"Graded games are doing good"
Good means higher prices? Surely it would be better for everyone if prices were lower. Then we would all get to have more games. Scarcity is always a bad thing. In all markets. You sound like market people talking about Oil prices going down being a bad thing which for most people its clearly a good thing.
(I say this even though Im an owner of 60+ CIB games. However I am never going to sell these games so Id happily see their prices go down so that I could buy and own more games)
For the market itself, yes, going up or even just being steady would be "good", especially compared to the absolute freefall it's had over the past few years haha. At the same time, the exponential growth seen in 2020/21 was a bad thing as well. "Good" in this case just means "healthy", or as healthy as a market filled with passive speculation can be.
For people who still want to buy games that may now be seeing the prices steadily go up, that would be bad.
For people who already own said games and are seeing the values go up, that could be good.
I'd actually encourage you to become more liquid with your own collection and don't have a "I'm never going to sell" approach. As prices change on this stuff somewhat regularly, it's a good thing to reassess and reevaluate regularly, too.
I know I've gone through many different collecting cycles over the years as my own life has changed, too.
@@GetTheGreg Makes sense thanks for the response
Did you just call me an "old head?" LOL, I do care about snow brothers
Haha one of those guys sitting at the barbershop talking about the good ol' days of collecting!
No mention about Sonic???? The most famous icon together with mario? Im impressed. He doesnt like Sega… LOL
Haha I will say, sonic is still holding up above 10k pretty nicely which is solid!
Everyone knows the most iconic video game character is Laura Croft.
Great video and agree with your sentiments on the market. It’s nice to see someone intelligent discuss the market in an objective manor.
Hey I appreciate it!
duping delight
✌
Halo 4 sold for $2.5M didnt it? cheap still...
Cheeaaappp
o:
Market Update: Graded games are still stupid.
j/k… but not.
🫣
@@GetTheGreg As for your statement that “the market is doing well”, I think an easy way to convey that would be by saying “it’s no longer in a free fall and games are holding their prices (or even rebounding)”.
Well some stuff is still in a free fall 😅 but for the majority of stuff, yes, that would be accurate to my own assessment!
@@GetTheGreg Curious, what is still rushing to the bottom? Like in general? Is it none 1st party stuff? Specific consoles? Or is it truly random? Because that doesn’t seem to jive with what we are seeing.
I just mean some of the super high-end is still seeing volatility. I'm saying it more in jest right now than full-on serious. The vast majority of stuff is quite steady, yea.
Why must you yell every second...please try a least "yelly" style and I bet people notice it for the better. Imo
Or add a little music noise or something. Crickets and you screaming
No way jose
Yo Greg I know this has nothing to do with the video but Im wondering if you know how rare the variants of ps2 and gamecube versions of Digimon World 4 with the promo card are. I found a copy with the card at a goodwill for 20 bucks and did not buy it and now that Im looking around more I cant even find one copy of the promo card online. I see one gamecube copy sold for over 200 but zero ps2 copies of this variant. Apparently is uber rare? I found a poster which says only ps2 and gamecube copies could come with the card.
Hey! Yea, as far as I know it's quite rare to find it with the card. Is the card even advertised on the case at all? I've seen the JP version with card and it's just kind of included separately afaik. It's not a variant I know a ton about!
@@GetTheGreg Thanks for the response. The gamecube one I saw did have a variant label on the back. Im going back tomorrow to try and snag this ps2 one if someone didnt already grab it after I left today. I thought it was odd bc it was in a blockbuster type case but the card was still on the plastic and cib.
@tyst5927 if you do end up grabbing it, fire me a message/photo on IG - I'm definitely curious to see!
@@GetTheGreg Someone grabbed it but I did do some more looking. Theres quite a few copies with the variant cover on ebay that sold for regular price if you look for it on the back. The card itself is hard to find but when searching for the other digimon card promos of which there are 5 in general they sell for basically nothing. Gamecube is a different story since its much more collectible than the ps2. Id guess maybe the ps2 would sell for 60-100 maybe? The thing is then you are putting an insane value on the card itself which on its own has likely none. Who knows lol
