Jardon has 3 modes in parkour maps
1. I am a god
2. I am big dumb
3. Pleading with the map creator for a checkpoint
4th state would be jordiphant
You forgot the timeloop Jardon stuck on the same parkour area for an hour saying frick on repeat
step 5: making his own checkpoint in creative mode
5th mode: Frick!
Personally, I lack mode 1. Anyone who has seen me parkour won't wonder why.
I don't click for the thumbnails. I click because it's the Captain

Honestly I didn’t even see the thumbnail, just a fan of quality content
Heck yeah, I just watch for jardon
Never seen a youtube comment that i agree with more
I saw the thumbnail but I didnt think about it before clicking it. But I think because it has captain sparklez's real face in it, I noticed it easier than the renders.
Same.
Same I just like watching him no matter the thumbnail
Honestly, I tend to click on videos by the title more than anything. Half the time I don’t even know what the thumbnail looked like when I click.
This!

I do the same so whenever the creator references the thumbnail and I need to refund the video just to see it

I know you’ve probably already seen a comment like this before, but the sequel to a map you played a while ago called Confusing Cubes is finally here. The map is called Confusing Cubes 2! I really think you’ll enjoy it if you want to play it!

That was one of the first Captain Sparklez videos I watched... Ah, the memories
I like how these types of videos end up being like a solo podcast
I love these types of videos.
I usually dont look at the thumbnail until after I'm watching the video, only recently started actually looking because i love the rendered thumbnails and i end up spending a good 10 minutes just appreciating them every time
At 2:30 Jardon guessed he was about two and a half min in. What a legend.
He might've seen the time in his recording software
Nah he’s definitely psychic
I know this will probably get buried, but for the volts series, you could not put episode numbers in the title/thumbnail since if people missed an episode they might be less inclined to watch the next one. Instead, just give it a catchy title, I think the title is what gets most people to click over the thumbnails. From what I gathered from the comments, it's mostly the title rather than the thumbnail, although the thumbnail certainly helps.
Additionally, at the beginning of the series, you could do a sort of "previously on volts" type opening that refreshes what happened in the last episode or so. That way people can catch up and not be out of the story. I hope this sort of helps
100% agree
The "previously on voltz" is a great idea! A "next time" at the end could also be an interesting concept. It was a nice touch when a brief previous was seen in that "minecraft upside down" series.
Imo numbers in titles help because I can go back to where I need. But if I miss and theres no numbers then idk where I left off
@@driftinkittin2159 Playlists display their own enumeration!
@@MiTheMer yeah but say I'm watching as they post but I miss ep 4 and the next I see is 5 but theres no number so idk I even missed one then I'm confused. Idk if this is just me because I do have ptsd related memory and dissociation so I lose time. The numbers just make it a little more accessible for people with certain mental health obsticles
Edit, plus sometimes creators dont put them in playlists consistently but if an old series has numbers and no playlist, it can still be found easily
The fact that when he gets to the sign halfway through the map, the video is on 31:18 / 1:02:36 is the most perfectly balanced thing I've ever seen.

The best part of any CaptainSparkelz video is hearing his substitutions for swear words since I don't swear
Me too my guy, there’s many reasons why the captain is my favorite youtuber, and this might be a reason why
I do swear but I appreciate when he doesn't to make his content more appropriate for everyone
@@JustASimpleCreb you realize he doesn't swear bc he doesn't want to get demonetized right? he's pretty much forced to do so by the algorithm but, I don't doubt he is just a family-friendly man.

I think the renders work better for series but non renders are good for update videos and one off videos. Not sure if I'm alone in this but that's my thought. I'll save a series till it is done and watch all of it when I eat or draw. Great videos by the way 👌
Jordo, just want to say your hunger games videos introduced me to minecraft and your channel, I was just a kid when I watched that, I’m 18 now and I still love watching your videos and playig minecraft, Please never stop making videos, it’s hard to find someone as wholesome as you and it’s a highlight of my day.
His hunger games videos are the best! But idk why he stopped
25:50 You should play the Witchcraft and Wizardry map, possibly with Kara, Rifkin and Crumb. It's a near perfect recreation of the Harry Potter world, and it's very multiplayer friendly. It would also make for a good episodic series, considering how long the story is.
12:00 No, you didn't fall through the one block space; you fell far enough to pepsi on impact, and respawned on the checkpoint.
Imagine if this was a really big dropper map

Me: stares at the progression bar the whole time
Hey you should totally play Confusing Cubes 2 for your next map (you played the original map two years ago). I think you’ll enjoy it. 👍
try suggesting it on Twitter?
I do think I prefer the non-rendered thumbnails- no specific reason why, I just like the way thumbnails like this one look more
I clicked this video because I knew that an hour with Jardon would be filled with 10 hours worth of memories and entertainment
I like the kind of thumbnail you had on your last video because it seems a bit more polished and cooler, and I like them.
I feel like if you added a "last time on.." kinda thing at the start of those episodic vids some might be more inclined to say.
...also maybe dropping the episode number from the video title and moving it to the description or hashtags or somethin.

I think the subconscious thumbnail decision for me is due to my familiarity with your thumbnails after like 10 years, linking rendered to an animated short, and how simplistic the image is. I was fine with the double jump thumbnail but I probably wouldn’t have watched the explosion ones if I hadn’t read the title.
I love it when you talk about all this behind the scenes stuff btw
Gotta love Jardon doing parkour!
I would like to appreciate the fact, that the "you're halfway" sign is exactly in the middle of the video.
I think if you don't number the episodes in a series, people may be more willing to jump in on whatever new episode is up rather than thinking either "oh, now I'm gonna need to to watch a few episodes I missed" or "that many episodes? I'll never be able to understand what's going on!"
Honestly I've been subscribed for years.. Stopped watching videos just for a couple weeks but when I seen this thumbnail I clicked on it. I think the only reason is because of the surprised face. I thought what could really shock the Jardon in minecraft.
I actually love rendered thumbnails, but one like this tells me immediately what the video is about, so I click faster
You should maybe perhaps consider doing one of those old Complete the Monument maps. That would most certainly be a series worth watching
In case you don't know, he has done a couple of those together with X33N as livestreams. The vods are over on Captainsparklez 2
Excellent
i quite enjoy the rendered thumbnails! they look really clean cut and professional :)
honestly i rarely choose to watch a video based off the thumbnail, i tend to be more interested from the title... but usually if a thumbnail stands out i'll be more likely to read the title to see if it sounds interesting. (basically if it's a bright and clear thumbnail with a good title i'll definitely watch it, doesn't really matter what type of thumbnail it is)
I always watch your videos, but if I were to say what caught my attention, it was that the title and thumbnail were both interesting! I don't really mind if the thumbnails are rendered or not, I like both
I don't look at the thumbnails. I click the videos because they're CaptainSparklez videos. Everyone knows that.
When you realize that Jordon would rather do one of the most difficult jumps when he could’ve used the carpet slime jump 19:08
When he fell and went back to the checkpoint in the sand section, he actually died, and it took him to the checkpoint because of that, he didn't fall through a hole and land perfectly in the middle on the gold pressure plate where the checkpoint was.
i didn't even notice the rendered thumbnails tbh but they look way better.
I actually like the rendered thumbnails. The one where crumb is floating (sorry I forget the vid) is one of my faves. In fact this videos thumbnail almost made me think it was a captainsporkes 2 video because the thumbnail isn't that type of rendered image.
It might also just be a preference thing with TH-cam's algorithm since the rendered images don't have "TH-camR FACE" or whatever. And now I've kind of gotten used to those rendered images meaning a mainline captain sprinkles video
Also don't worry about talking about behind the scenes stuff. I think it's really cool and shows that your not just another generic faceless corporation-tuber
Om your question about the thumbnail, i sometimes miss uploads simply because I'm don't recognize it's one of your videos, for me the thumbnails are less about telling what the video is about but more that i can pick out your videos from other people in my subfeed
At one point during the video, you mentioned, "What else am I supposed to talk about while doing parkour," or something along those lines, it could be interesting to use parkour videos partially like Q&A videos, asking for questions at the end of each parkour video, and just picking a bunch from comments. It could be kind of interesting!
Can we go over the fact that a literal potato kills you if you mess up and you choose to do it.
I choose tatocide.
Watching this late but I like episodic series because they are more coherent and have more content for a certain subject
Also I loved the original Minecraft modded survival, it's what got me into Playing Modded Minecraft. PS thanks to the modded survival series and you entirely I fell in love with the Ford GT 2017
And literally right now he has Stone-block 3, One Modded Block and Vault Hunters right now, so I’ve been bingeing the Cap
About thumbnails: I do like the rendered ones, however, your character on the rendered ones completely blends in with the background/etc. So when I’m just browsing or glance at it I tend to glaze over it. Vs this one that had your actual face with an animated expression that contrasted with minecraft’s cartoony style. Thus I ended up watching this one but not any of your rendered ones. I would say definitely needs more contrast somehow
Whenever I start losing interest in Minecraft, Jordan often inspires me to play it again. He tries such a wide variety of things: parkour, mods, role-playing, survival, story-driven adventure maps, server games, puzzle maps, recreations of other games in Minecraft, MC music and animation, speedrunning, tournaments, crowd control, and more.
I quite like the rendered thumbs. Also loved the video.
I'll definitely be watching the Volt series or whatever you mentioned with Ranboo. It's a new concept I haven't seen before and it will have my favorite Minecraft TH-camr producing it!
I would love to see Bennet Foddy’s idea of a parkour map
the captain: lots of people probably won’t want to watch but eh ya know it’s fine

I like watching your different series! Thumbnails don’t make a difference to me and I don’t mind watching a bunch of episodes. However when episodes are over a hour each, I tend to fall behind or not want to watch. I like to watch videos in one go, but it’s not often that I can take out whole hours of my day for TH-cam. Keep up the quality content!
I like the rendered thumbnails but honestly I click on videos from the title not the thumbnails
Same for the most part. Thumbnails catch my eye but titles are what keep me
A few datapacks I know that may make good videos:
True Survival- various gameplay tweaks to make the game harder. Watch the tutorial video first, it may not amount to much on its' own but it makes a great base.
Experience health (might have a different name): makes your HP dependent on your level. You start with like 3 or 4 hearts and every 5 levels you get 1 more heart with a max of 20 hearts/40HP at like level 60 or 80. Pairs well with True Survival if you want to call the video "Minecraft but we made a new difficulty setting"
Train to Busan (credit to Wattles for doing a showcase video but not a series): zombies infect and kill you. If you find a datapack that makes zombies immune to/spawn in sun that would be a great combo for a "Minecraft, but it's a zombie apocalypse" video.
The Creepers' Code- not a difficulty datapack, it just adds vanilla+ items. May be neat to add in as a side pack. Definitely makes the game cooler if nothing else.
I think something big for an episodic series is for it to be big enough and unique enough to gain a following in the community as a whole. So the people who miss an episode feel like it’s important enough to catch up. Like I didn’t start Mianite until episode 25 or so but I caught up when I saw it was still going strong (another fear that feeds into itself, cause they don’t watch thinking it’s just gonna end early, but also since they didn’t watch it ends early) and that people were talking about it enough for it to seem major.
I clicked because I couldn't fall asleep and Caps voice is relaxing despite his frustrations. After watching for 9 years around episode 9 of the survival let's play, Its comfortable and calming.
This is the first video I've clicked of yours in about 3 years because I've been on my occasional minecraft nostalgia binge. I think the thumbnail editor is doing a great job, and if you do decide to change thumbnail styles I feel you should find a way to keep him on payroll.
Jardon, the reason I end up not watching episodic videos is because I don’t have time to just sit down for 2 hours and watch it. Then I end up falling behind on videos in the series until it gets to the point where I just stop watching them
For an idea for the episodic problem, maybe the first episode won’t have like “ep.1” on it. Not sure but the new thumbnails don’t effect me much they are nice.
I think when you’re doing minecraft maps I appreciate the non rendered thumbnail with your face on it, but when it’s a short series (modded or not) the render makes it more exciting to watch. It gives individuality to each episode
I like this thumbnail because it reminds me of your "older" parkour map videos that I used to watch ALL the time. Those thumbnails just appeal to me more than the rendered thumbnails.
If I'm being honest I actually enjoy your "episodic" videos, I always look forward to waking up and watching the next episode while I'm getting my morning cleaning/cooking done, plus I feel like its not as rushed so I feel like you and me get to enjoy it more and you actually get to explore everything better. I just started back up your RLCraft series (I absolutely love the friendship you and x33n have). I would love to see another modded series full of new challenges and borderline rage quiting 😊😁
Haven't been on this channel for a good while, but it is nice to see that you are still doing well to this day
The first CaptainSparklez video I've watched in forever was the "Everything I Touch Explodes". That thumbnail was SICK!
I'm watching because of nostalgia really. Don't care about thumbnails that much, I just am here for the fact that out of all of my childhood minecrafters you are the only one that stayed the same (which is I love). Been watching you like for 8 or 9 years now? That's crazy. Probably the reality is that people only watch your Minecraft vids so you can't go play anything else which is a bummer yeah. Though streaming seems to have worked out fine for ya that's great. Edit: Solo commentary with no editing or weird jokes is the best thing ever.
Alternate Title: 1 hour of Jordan complaining about headbangers
I just watch your videos whenever they pop up on my subscriptions feed. Anything that is a gameplay video I watch; other stuff (on CS2) like your sub server videos I usually only watch from time to time.
I've only been watching you about 18 months but you account for 50% of all the video I watch.
Your thumbnails don't influence if I watch your videos--it just comes down to the content of the video.
If it helps, the videos where you play with others are the most interesting for me, but I still enjoy and watch your solo videos. I'm 40, so maybe not a good representation of your typical viewer.
Your new series sounds really entertaining and I'm looking forward to it, but I'm hands down most excited for MC Champs season 2.!
something that ludwig does during his ludlockes and stuff like that, is that he doesn’t say that the episodes are things like episode 1, episode 2, or anything ordered, because of ppl not being interested in following the entire series. generally it might just be smart to upload the videos without episode numbers, but put them in a playlist for ppl who do want to watch in chronological order
I love episodic series, Captain! Animated, photo of your face, or drawn thumbnails it doesn't matter to me.
I clicked on the video bc I read the title and thought it would be entertaining. Plus I've supported you since 2014. The thumbnail is a bonus no matter what it is. The rendered one's are sick. Idk why people would think it's an animation
Edit: I love the fact you talk to your videos about how the videos should be done-ish
Fun fact: he reaches the exact halfway point of the map exactly halfway through the video
@CaptainSparklez If you use the world settings to disable command blocks in your world, then you can change gamemodes because it's the command blocks preventing you from going into spectator and things. Hope this helps!
In regards to that slime jump at about 21 minutes into the video, you can actually click the button, wait, fall back onto the slime block and use the momentum after to land the next jump nearly every single time.
I simultaneously have minor anxiety every time you attempt a difficult jump and I laugh at your rage when you fail then contemplate if that means that I'm a bit sadistic.
I love when you talk about the behind-the-scenes stuff, and TH-cam is all about the thumbnail/title meta!
Asking people “why” is usually not very helpful since we tend to make up reasons, but that’s not going to stop me ;)
I haven’t been clicking on the rendered ones as much. Made up reason: like someone else said, not enough contrast and I think bad framing (in the artistic sense). The actual 3D work is pretty top-notch though!
Update, yeah, see, people are liars. Turns out, I’ve watched all of the videos with rendered thumbs!
Dude, I just clicked the thumbnail cuz you're the only person on TH-cam that I turned on notifications for lol
Also for Voltz, I have no idea what it is yet, but all the hype and people talking about it has definitely got me interested and I'd love to watch it even if it's episodic.
I honestly didn’t think too hard about the thumbnail, I like rainbows so yeah maybe that helped but I mostly clicked because I’ve been on a mood to watch you play long maps today so this is like my 3rd 30 min+ long vid of sparkles content today lol
I usually notice videos quicker depending on the thumbnail but I click because of the title.
i like the rendered and the irl ones, it sucks if it actually affects your views. always here for the content
I love the rendered ones, they make me want to click them more! Even if it isn’t an animation, they make the videos seem more fun I think.
I clicked on this because the title sounded interesting, but both thumbnail styles are nice! I personally like the renders better because the art and details out into it are always pop.
That last little thing at the end? Worth it. Seriously; that was the perfect little thing to add for the final edit! XD
Long time fan, I'm really enjoying the rendered thumbnails! The Cap Crumb random potion video one was great. Definitely thought it was an animation, but overall I think they are good change.
Tbh Jardon, I just really enjoy your videos, especially Minecraft maps, and will watch just about anything you post haha i honestly don’t usually pay attention to thumbnails unless is it a render and even then it’s just to admire the art, knowing I’ll watch it either way lol
The issue with episodic series, Jordan (at least a big one IMO) is timing. With an episodic series you'd want to watch all of the previous episodes first before watching the current one, and that means that if you're not there at the start, you have a ton of work to do to catch up, which can very easily stop people from watching a series.
Which means that number of people who watch the episodes start off high as most people start watching it, then there's a big drop in the second episode where everyone who didn't like what they saw in the first one jumps off, combined with all the people who missed the first and can't be bothered to catch up, plus those people who end up not watching for whatever other reason. After that the number of viewers just continues to drop since there's less and less people willing to catch up with the increasing number of episodes, and more and more people not being able to keep up, with some new viewers too who *are* willing to catch up, or just don't care and start watching from the current episode.
I've seen one datapack that limits your inventory to only 5 slots, it would be an interesting challenge for a survival world. Essentially you get a shield slot and 4 hotbar slots and that's it. You'd have to really manage resources.
so i've been rewatching all of your Minecraft series that you've done with x33n and your subnautica one so even if I don't watch it at once, I'll get around to it eventually
As someone who doesn't watch your videos all too often, when your videos pop up in my recommended I tend to watch based more off the title than the thumbnail. So for this particular video, I wanted to see what the tallest minecraft map in the world was XD so I clicked. The last video I watched of yours was "Minecraft But I Get The Block I Look At" because I have chaos brain and wanted to see how that turns out
The thing is, if you use a server you can actually just increase the build limit In a config file. So as long as you set up a private server on your pc (pretty easy) it'll work perfectly fine without having to TP.
As someone who has been watching for 7 years, and probably even longer I can say i don't care what the thumbnail is. I just enjoy what I watch.
I personally love the rendered thumbnails. I look at them and I immediately know it's your video! Very handy IMO.
I have a idea about people not watching more than one episode, I know it's a big stretch but you could record the whole thing behind the scenes and then release a trailer for it to grab everyone's attention. It's risky because you don't know how everyone will like it until you are done with it and could risk wasting your time but you could experiment with a smaller series to see how it does.
To answer your question the thing that caught my attention was of course the topic it's a nice choice and the rainbow and bright lights are very eye catching so adding bright colours might help a lot so im not sure if rendered thumbnails will really help or not because i feel like the the title and bright colours got me
I would recommend playing a parkour map that kinda has a story behind it. That'll be super cool, maybe an old parkour story map series? Idk- it's a random thought.
