i grew clemsons spinless last year in a raised bed and they were good . i was late planting them and also the first time i have ever grown or eaten okra . i will be growing them again next season ( which will be soon ) and i will be growing more that last year with some in raised beds and some in ground . i want to grow a red variety as well , i am in queensland australia .
I've successfully grown Baker Creek's Heavy Hitter in my 17" Olle raised bed for 2 summers here in San Diego. Trying 2 new (to me) okra varieties from Baker Creek this summer in another Olle 17" bed. I'm going to check out this dwarf variety on your website. Thanks Travis ❤
I'm growing dwarf cow horn okra this year that I bought from Lazy Dog. Can't wait to taste it. Growing jing orange too. It produced well last year. I soaked the cow horn seeds but it still took a long, long time to germinate.
I grew Hill Country Red Okra (seeds from MIGardener) for two years in raised beds. I still have some in the freezer and some saved seed pods. My impression in raised beds is you need to be tall or hope the plant is flexible when you pull it down to get to the pods. Last year it was four plants in a 4x4x11 1/2" bed set in the corners. This year I have that Dwarf Cowhorn Okra in an 11 1/2 inch 4x8 raised bed. It is about a foot tall or more and filling out a bit after looking a little puny at transplant. Seven plants.
Travis another great informative post. We grow all types okra in our 12-18" raised beds. Yup they can get just a bit out of reach but it's actually become our preferred method. I would sure never plant okra in a bed any higher. Height just isn't our greatest physical asset around here. But we do bark a good bluff when called for. Lol
I love mulberries. I have several trees. They all started from 1 that I dug up on a job. Left it in a pot for a year and now the place the pot was setting grows about 2-3 trees a year that I dig up leave in a pot for a year and transplant to my little orchard. I have grown Clemson spineless in a 2' tall raised bed without an issue
I have only ever planted clemson spineless okra. I plant it in 12 inch tall beds. The soil is crappy and compacted. I don't fertilize it or water it. I have so much preserved, that I haven't planted any this year. I love the flowers though. So pretty. I'm thinking of planting some where I plan to put some decorative plants, just to get the flowers😊
I've been working on overwintering peppers for a couple years because I live in a cold climate and I love how productive the plants are in season 2 and beyond. I try to overwinter as many peppers as I can because my survival rate isn't that great: probably 30-40% survive the winter inside. But even having just one overwintered pepper plant (more is better) makes such a difference in terms of harvest that it has been well worth the effort for me.
We grew Clemson spineless for the last couple years in our 4x8 foot 10" beds. Your right! Late summer requires my BDS (Big Dang Stepladder) to reach. But it's fine. My neighbors already know I'm crazy and I'm old enough now not to care!
I always grow about 12 to 18 Jing Orange okra plants in a 100 gallon grow bag. I pack them in. I just grab the stalk up high and bend it over to pick …it’s easy and then it just springs back up straight. Those tall stalks are very strong and won’t break. They produce until the first freeze. I want to try your Dwarf cow horn okra and your Katrina cucumbers. I forgot your tip this year and put in pre plant fertilizer but the okra is doing ok but next year I’m going to remember not to.
I grew Clemson spineless in a an eight inch high bed and was able to reach them by pulling the plant towards me but it was a stretch! Had a great harvest. I am tall but a step stool may be required LOL! Great video and I will order some dwarf next time.
I'm doing okra in 10 and 20 gallon grow bags for the first time. I'm not sure what variety (I'll find the seed packet in my seed organizer). But they look good so far. About 18 inches tall and just starting to flower. So we will see! Garden experiments are so exciting.
Planted Jambalaya Okra in a large container & it’s already starting to produce. I planted the same in the ground before, but the deer chomped every single plant I had. Never had a chance. 😂
I have a 12” raised bed next to a South facing brick wall that is PERFECT to overwinter Onions in but in the Summer months nothing can take the heat ~ except for Clemson Spineless Okra. When they get too tall to pick I let them go to seed for seed saving next years crop 👍
You absolutely can grow dwarf cowhorn okree in a raised bed! Been enjoying great production with three HUGE plants in one bed … looking forward to watching you thin down that forest you planted 😊
@@TeeRust15 The beds are about 4' x 7' (45" x 81"). Have three dwarf cowhorn okra plants arranged in a triangle, and also three peppers. Haven't really pruned the okra plants, so they are pretty massive ... huge stalks.
I have a fig tree that’s got killed back about 2 years ago. It came back out but all I have is about 15 shoots about 6 feet tall. How can I prune it to get more limbs?
I tried growing okra this year I’m new at garden the ant killed the flowers and ate the base of the okra before they mature, I tried several things from TH-cam that people suggested but nothing worked do you have any suggestions, thanks
I tried the dwarf cow horn this spring. Wow! Lots of great flavor and don’t take much to make a mess! Thank you! And I did use a raised bed!
Enjoying my second year of container grown dwarf cowhorn okra I purchased from Lazy Dog!
Thanks for your informations

Can you do a fall tomato planting guide please
Never have grown fall tomatoes, but I just might do it this year!

I've grown Clemson spineless in 5 gallon buckets and got loads of okra.
I’m excited about that Mulberry
We grew Louisiana Green Velvet in a raised bed last year. We had plenty for ourselves and some for neighbors.

Yep, I'm short and this is what I do. I think I'm going to try topping a few at around 6 ft (I plant way too many every year) to see what that does.

I’d be interested in a mulberry tree if you have good success in growing them

Good to see you propagating the mulberry. I have gone down the mulberry rabbit hole recently .

Oh great! Mulberries! Hope they do well so you call sell some 😊

Have you tried other heat loving crops like (water) melons. Or sweet potato.
I'm growing bowl gourds
Try Heavy Hitter. Not too tall and prolific. Love your videos.

How big is your bed?

I nicked four of my squash seeds this year and all of them came up after the unnicked ones.
That giant butternut squash would make an interesting jack o lantern.

Okree and Okra are different plants?
They are the same. Some say okree, others say okra.
Why would you want to? It's too tall for me as it is.
