  • A Cat 966K loader with a large self powered Kodiak snow blower working along the railroad tracks near Big Lake, Minnesota. The last minute of the video shows the machine running full bore throwing three foot deep chunky snow that was plowed away from the tracks. The plume of steam and smoke seen in the distance towards the end of the video is from Xcel Energy's Sherco power plant in Becker, Mn.

    Oh wow....I live in Annandale area for the past two decades and havent seen one of these yet. Cool blower. Theres something so mesmerizing about watching snow cleanup in action. Ive never seen a train ploy or blower either...even though I cross a track every day. Weird i say

    Our city has a fleet of these, as does most cites I would think.Especially in the snow prone areas of the country. They make great spectator 'sport' to watch in action.

    Must be No. 2, as I remember my childhood in Montreal and St. Laurent the Sicard Snowmaster was THE machine.

    I wonder what would happen if a person fell in front of this while it was chewing up the snow. I imagine there'd be a flash of red in the plume being blasted out of the exhaust.

    So why can't they just use the payloaders power to drive the blower does it not have hydraulic hook up or enough power

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not enough power. These are very powerful engines driving the Kodiak. In the video description there is a link to stats on the blower straight from Kodiak. Thanks for the comment! .

    Hey there Tom, what is the horse power on the engine that drives the auger? It sure gets the snow out of the way. Take care and Merry Christmas

      Greg Adomeit Thanks for the question. I never did know exactly which model this was but I believe it's around 500 HP. If you want more detailed information here is a link to Kodiak. Merry Christmas to you, too! www.kodiakamerica.us/snowremoval

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Boyd W I'm not sure which model this is exactly but the biggest Kodiak blowers weigh over 18,000 pounds.

      Good pun. All kidding aside, yes they are, especially when you want to move a lot of snow. In this case one is moving the length of a long stretch of railroad track. Tons and tons of snow. Thanks for the chuckle!

      Its technically both since its throwing as what you saw near the end, blowing when he maneuvered and stopped to do a final tail cleanup before doing the latter.
