Be careful for crocodiles when near a lake
Thank you for this 🙌
I think that is a controlled burn that is being carried out. We were in Krueger NP in South Africa last September and they were doing the same. They told us it is done every 6-8 years to prevent major fires from occurring.
Okay, we understand. Thank you for sharing this with us 🙌
After a few gin and tonics, most sunsets look spectacular.
Well, that is true 😂🙌
Pretty awesome to see you explore my neck of the Matobo Hills. That looked like a controlled burn. Not only has it been done since time immemorial, it's great for the local ecology (think preventing crazy wildfires from too much brush accumulation over successive years). Not sure when this was filmed but the month of August in siNdebele is uNcwaba which literally means new grass after burning the landscape (also the first month of the year in the Nguni lunar calendar).
Thanks for your comment! We’ve had a lot of comment explaining to us the reasons behind the burns. It’s been very interesting to learn more about and understand the reasoning behind these fires. This video was filmed in September. Our videos are delayed on TH-cam.
Thanks for your comment ☺️
the fires are set each year to clear out the bush and so that grasses can grow for livestock in the rainy season . you dont see fences but that is farmland and people need grazing .
Ahhh okay, we understand. Thanks for sharing this with us ☺️
I love Africa, Zimbabwe is our neighbor and it is indeed a beautiful country, enjoy it.
Thank you 😀
Whether its was controlled burns or natural bush fire it is essential for the bush in southern africa as it allows for the growth of new grass and plants with the first rains .
That’s very interesting to find out. That’s for sharing this with us!
Hi Guys,
We are a retired couple on the Wild Coast of SA. Love Africa , have camped all over, done several church mission trips, one to Sudan, others around Southern Africa, love the people and wildness of Africa. In 2009 we did a 7 month trip thru Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique. Have camped at most of the spots you've been to - was quite surprised you picked up on Muduma - one of the wildest parks, been there twice - what an experience!
Really want to commend you two on the channel you're producing, it is informative, but we watch many overlanding channels and plan our next trips (No Landy, had to downscale from our thirsty Colt (L200) bakkie to a 4x4 Duster with camper trailer) - but your vids are so much more - human, witty, vulnerable in showing your healthy relationship, so it is our favourite. - we ration ourselves to one or two an evening. Appreciate that they are shorter, never fast-forward like we do in many others.
Enjoy that you do much of your own maintenance ( I identified with the brake line experience ) - that you are aware of costs, and don't just shell out when rates are too high, the cooking is inspiring, and I'm envious of the Landy - also a bit thirsty, but would love one.
Keep it real, keep it coming, and you don't need to change a thing! Love the UK accents - reminds us of our daughter and family in London.
What a wonderful comment thanks so much for your support!

Control burns make sense, just prior to next expected rains. Done at the wrong time it could be catastrophic for wildlife.
Okay, we understand. Thanks for this ☺️
The Motopas is my spiritual place, thanks for the video. I remember stalking wild Rhino in the main park as kids and also seeing Maleme Dam in flood, the water was so deep that the massive boulders downstream of the dam wall were under water. 1979 or 1980
It’s a very special place, we wish we could have spent more time there.
Wow, that’s incredible. That much have been quite amazing to see.
Thank you for your comment ☺️
Your first night drive- I was laughing; you did better than us when we road tripped Africa- NO NIGHT DRIVING (our rule). First night there-driving… (and many subsequent nights). All good 😁
Stay safe- I love you guys… fantastic vlogging, and you make me smile every time I watch. 😊
Hahaha that’s funny!! Sometimes the day just runs away with you. Aww that’s so nice of you. Thank you for your comment ☺️
You are my favourite overlanding couple. Lots of love. Cape Town ❤
Thanks a lot!
Been following your journey since south Africa it's really lovely to have in our country welcome and enjoy zim
Thank you so much, that really means a lot to us ☺️
I grew up in Bullawayo. We used to ride our bicycles to Matopas on the weekends. I caught many big fish at Maleme dam.
Unforgettable lovely memories
Aww that’s awesome, maybe we’ll have better luck next time 🙌
Your eyes ??? Wth so beautiful
Thanks ☺️
Such a beautifully shot episode! When I first started watching your channel, I so wanted to dislike you two for being clueless millennials, but I now respect you two and can honestly say that my initial Impression was so wrong. I was really too quick to judge, and that was an important lesson for me. Thank you and greetings from Saudi Arabia. ❤️
Thanks for your comment. It’s really nice to hear that your mind has been changed about us. We really hope you enjoy our future videos and getting to know us more ☺️🙌
@@TheLandyExpedition I’m honestly looking forward to it. 👍🏻Thank you
Amazing, the best is still to come. Zimbabwe is spectacular and the people are friendly and welcoming.

Fantasric. That sunset & landscapes gave me the shivers, missing Africa, back later this year after a 5-year drought so to speak...😊

What great country side views , and so fun watching a Land Rover living life to the fullest flexing along some African dirt track 😀. Loved see areas I new of from traveling there many years ago . A great country to visit , and amazing history of the area is worth taking the time to learn about . Thanks again for another great African adventure video . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon :) :) 🌍🍻👍🏼😁

Went to REPS primary boarding school for boys…RHODES ESTATE PREPARATORY SCHOOL,just on the border of Matopos national park…just a very special place and wonderful memories.
Ahh nice. It’s a very special place. What a wonderful area to go to school!☺️
Speak to the locals and ask if you can camp they will inevitably accommodate you. Leave them a donation for which they will be very grateful.
That’s good to know, thank you ☺️
New sub for showing to the zim
Thanks so much ☺️
Another great video guys , the fishing , the history lesson , just amazing
Thank you so much ☺️
Did you guys ship your car into South Africa? The only time South Africa needs a Carnet is if you ship the car into a South African port. Land crossings don’t require a carnet de passage and you can get a TIP from South Africa as well as others. The only countries I am aware of that requires a Carnet in Southern and Eastern Africa are Kenya and Ethiopia ( I have heard they also issue TIP ) and up north Sudan and Egypt need one.
And quite a few like Ghana and Senegal and few others need Carnet.
Carnet de passage is a pain in the arse and you have to keep renewing or getting a new one every year. Most of the common wealth countries seem to be still hung up on a Carnet.
If you go on the Pan American highway, you don’t need a Carnet for any country and all of them issue a TIP.
Carnet is an antiquated relic that needs to go and it’s getting difficult to find organizations that still issue it.
Did you guys have to plonk down a big deposit or they just give you one with an indemnity bond to cover the amount and you pay a non refundable fee and be done with it?
I was curious why you needed a Carnet in South Africa and I wasn’t sure if you guys shipped your car from UK to Durban or Cape Town in a container.
Yes, we shipped our car to South Africa hence the Carnet.
It’s been helpful for some borders but it doesn’t feel like it’s essential. Yes, we have a cash deposit with the company we got our Carnet from.
How that answers all your questions ☺️
Always great videos. Thanks
Thank you so much ☺️
Your videos are always amazing, great videography and the narration. Thankyou for posting all this and informing and inspiring others to go out and explore. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting ☺️
You are certainly exploring Africa !!!
We sure are! Loving it so much ☺️
Thank you for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching ☺️
Lovely video.👍🏻
Thank you ☺️
Awaiting a fishing catch Harry, tbere must be fish somewhere 😅 Better put a trace on in case of tiger fish....
Fingers cross he catches a fish soon!!
Sooo beautiful!
Some parts look like places here in the U.S.. that one rock dome looked like something had impacted it.(6:26)
The rhinos were amazing!
What is the crocodile situation there in the lakes?
That’s awesome!
They were really awesome to see and so close as well!
Some of the dams do have crocodiles but some don’t. You just have to ask the locals when you arrive.
I couldn’t help hear you say that it’s hot and I wondered if you have air conditioning in your LR. Without air con, it would be brutal to sit inside it.
What year and model is your LR? Is it a TD5/TD10/TDi? They were banned for sale here in both US & Canada for decades because they didn’t meet the safety standards and you can’t import one unless they are 25 years old. Getting parts for them is a challenge but aftermarket parts may be available but once you go South to Central and South America, it’s a problem.
Yeah, I wouldn’t want to drive in any car in the African or Asian heat without air conditioning and in summer here, it gets to 48-50 degrees C and it is brutal without air conditioning.
Our car does not have air conditioning! It’s been pretty uncomfortable at times but nothing we can’t cope with. We’ve learnt to just embrace the sweat and become comfortable with it!
Our Landy is a Defender 110 TD5 from the year 2000. Yes, we are aware of this rule.
You’d be surprised how your body does acclimatise to the heat and you soon get used to it.
Thanks for your comment ☺️
@@TheLandyExpedition it’s brutal without air conditioning. I live in Phoenix where the temperature hits 48-50 degrees during summer and never drops below 40 degrees for 3 or 4 weeks straight and 40 degrees C is the lowest temperature at night.
I’ve visited Southern Africa and driven through most of Southern and Eastern Africa but as far as getting used to the heat, no way lol
Without a/c , you will die of heat stroke where I live. The a/c runs nonstop during summer and the cars can get to 80-90 degrees inside when you park it and the metal parts can give you third degree burns if you accidentally touch it.
Ok I thought yours was a TD5 but I pegged it for a 2005/2006. They never made it to the US and the Defender made a comeback to the US after 25+ years in 2020.
Can you get aftermarket a/c units for it?
Yeah, no a/c for extended periods is something I can’t handle. I know it can get above 40 degrees C in Namibia and Botswana in summer.
Did you guys visit CKGR in Botswana? It’s a great place for lions and other big game but it’s remote and you need to be self sufficient and carry tons of extra fuel. Do you have an auxiliary tank?
😎👍
☺️
😎🙌

Less crime compared to south africa
👍🏻
Hi
Hi ☺️
What happened to the white Zimbabweans? Not many in the video!!
Not sure what you mean?
