How sad when we live in a world where the Kardashians are seen as role models by young girls when we have amazing woman like these two out there who are unknown to most.
Its all access to popular culture. In America, Kardashians are popular because people like drama and care a lot about looks and being hip, whereas these girls cater to more niche communities. Sucks too because Kardashians are definitely not positively influencing the minds of our youth
Sorry but these two do the same exact things. They constantly stream in skimpy clothing talking about trivial non-sense while making suggestive faces or poses for male viewership and clicks. Being good at chess on top of everything else isn't enough of an extra layer to somehow cancel the rest out.

Which I don't fully agree, but I can see this being the case for so many GM's that don't get to be super GM's or don't get to monetize their skills.
Apparently Andrew Tate’s dad would say to him “a well played chess game is the sign of a gentleman, an expertly played chess game is the sign of a wasted life”
It's because 1. Chess doesn't require high intelligence. It's just pattern recognition from other games. All u do is play the best lines that have always already been played. That doesn't require intelligence. Just memory. You didn't create some new genius move. 2. Chess is a dead end. It only makes u good at chess and nothing else. Would be interesting to have Josh Waitzkin on the podcast too. He went from chess prodigy and International Master to martial arts competitor, and has a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu
I must say I'm... impressed. I knew Botez sisters are intelligent (it's obvious), but I didn't expect them to also be wise beyond their years. Kudos! Also, very well done, Lex!
Alexandria considerably so. Her statement about Andrew Tate showed exceptional acuteness,: Andrea didn't get so much of a chance, but can't be too far behind, if at all.
#1 Rule when renting a car in Italy.....get the smallest model possible, to survive the narrow streets and increase your odds of finding a parking space.
@2:04:54 I am a black man Lex Fridman, you won't turn off all people in a community because of controversy. I've watched the Botez Sisters play chess in their park videos with random people looking to up my game and also have a laugh while watching them in their element. I would also watch the Andrew Tate interview potentially. I think there are people who are willing to be nuanced and accept that labels aren't all fitting and there are people who aren't. Stay true to yourself, whether you interview him or not but just know that as much as there will be backlash, there will be always support. This dimension is one of duality and polarity
But what nuances are there with Andrew Tate, really? He's ideology which to some extent he is just putting on as a show is that I'm big strong ape better than you better than women. That's it! It'll definitely be boring and he won't concede on anything because it makes him money. Neither he nor the subject is capable of being intellectually interesting.
Lex, You crack me up when you talk about fighting to keep yourself from putting yourself down. I find it hilariously ironic because I use your podcasts to keep me from putting myself down. You provide me with the interesting external distractions I employ to silence my inner demon. I even listened to you while I sleep. You help me fall asleep faster, sleep longer, and keep my dreams and waking thoughts positive. Please know that your natural talent is a gift to us all. I owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Thank you sooo much!
It's specifically the floor they use in Italy that makes the difference... The names 00 and 0 Flour refer to specifically Italian milled flour that is used for pasta making. You will find that this is also called Doppio Zero just meaning double zero. The grading system is 2, 1, 0 or 00 and indicates to how finely ground the flour is and how much of the bran and germ have been removed.

Usually you get the best out of your guests, but this time the guests got the best out of you! Really interesting and enjoying, you three have a great chemistry
I never thought I'd be so drawn into the chess world, but Lex's conversations have the effect of making previously uninteresting topics seem wildly exciting and full of compelling characters. You have an immense ability to make people interested in things, Lex.
I never believed the day would come when Andrea spoke calmly and eloquently. It's charming but simultaneously disturbing. I can feel the restraint through the screen. Thank you, Lex, for making the impossible possible
Lex I owe so much gratitude to you ..thank you. For now I've finally found a male roll to model after. Your politeness, patience, quick mind, intense focus, sense of humor , variety of skills, vocabulary, kindness & sincerity all serve me well in tweaking how I would like to be perceived as. Knowing you are out there gives me increased faith for the worlds future.
I saw this podcast in my feed, and said to myself, I really want to watch this, but then I looked at the length of it and thought, I don't have anywhere near that kind of time. Then I thought, what the hell, I'll just watch a little, and come back to it later... next thing I knew,a couple hours had passed, it was way past bedtime, and I was feeling amazed, blessed, and full of admiration and renewed hope for humanity. Interesting note: When they made the Queens Gambit, the directors initially had planned to have Garry Kasparov play Borgov. However, the movie length for filming was too long for him from chess tournaments, so he offered to help make the chess more realistic over the board at least!
@@daarom3472 Niemann is great. He's actually good, but he's crass and awkward in so many ways. Hilarious combination. I don't think he cheated. Hans is totally the type to beat Magnus yet lose multiple times to Andrea (actually happened).

Parasocial relationships are one-sided relationships, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other's existence. Parasocial relationships are most common with celebrities, organizations or television stars.

The variety of sub-cultures that Lex explores on this podcast never ceases to keep me interested. Lex, you're the gift that just keeps on giving. The work you're putting continues to facilitate the growth of love and understanding in the world that you seek to achieve. Keep it up brother.
Chess parallels MMA/Jiu jitsu on many levels. Both individual competitions with many time control variations that may give an advantage to one participant over another. Winning is often by tapping or resigning when one is "defeated", or by stoppage/mate. The prepping for a particular opponent, the idea that a fighter might be more comfortable in certain lines/positions than another equally rated player. The fighters also often attach a sense of worth to an outcome even tho anyone can slip up and suddenly lose to a foe considered not as strong. I could realloy go on with the similarities, but I'm sure many others are thinking of them now.
Alex gets around on the youtube influence sphere. It's actually kind of impressive imo. One of my favorite moments is her reaction to MoistCritkal beating XQC in 5 rounds.
As a former chess player and a current math major at college, I felt such a connection to this episode. Essentially, I loved how Lex so openly shared his take on some really interesting questions. Overall this episode is beautiful. Beautiful both visually and mentally. Alex is brilliant lady. So is Andrea. Lex is the role model. Lex, thank you for putting your effort out there and creating this valuable informational art that we not only love to be exposed to but I dare to say that we should. Thank you for putting love into the world.
Nice, been following those two for a few months now, they sure are great chess ambassadors. If you want to do a light-hearted chess podcast, I recommend Jan Gustafsson, pretty funny guy.

Lex is a bit hitting it off, swiveling suavely on his stool, serving softball comebacks while having his hour off with these two :D
Lex I feel like we are two of the same. I am an electrical engineer, 4 years into my jiu jitsu journey and I've been playing chess since I was 10 (I am now 30). Please get Hikaru on and start posting some videos of you rolling. I'm just one guy but nothing would make me happier
Would be interesting to have Josh Waitzkin on the podcast too. He went from chess prodigy and International Master to martial arts competitor, and has a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu
have you heard of the time Eric Hansen submitted Hikaru via RNC at a party once?
@@calvindevries hahaha yep with yasser holding hikarus 1k in cash. So funny
@@kamzok yesssss!
Hikaru? nah. Another GM would be better.
You should get Agadmator on your podcast! I'd love to know more about him and his thoughts on chess!
+1 Agadmator, please!
Second that
As from minute 1 we have a complete new podcast.
Ahhh soo glad you had them on your podcast. Great discussions
I must say I'm... impressed. I knew Botez sisters are intelligent (it's obvious), but I didn't expect them to also be wise beyond their years. Kudos! Also, very well done, Lex!
They are twitch thots lol.
@@peterhardie4151 Being on twitch - yes. Thots - not really, but you might argue. Still, non of this contradicts what I wrote.
Yeah, I was a bit out of line with that comment.
Is parking for free over there?

Never seen them this serious but they are a great duo.
Maybe have a one time chess roundtable. I love chess and it would be fantastic to hear chess industry experts discuss something together.
18:20 - balancing the want to do with what the audience will also like
19:45 - lex's take
21:39 - discouragement from view count validation
23:00 - doing a task in a way that appeals to us whilst still on the path of progression
[sorry for skipping, wanted to hear more about specific topics]
1:49:16 - the addiction of associating views as "a good job" (validation) and how the world is leaning more towards hyper-focusing on it
[tbf view count is very optimizable (general audience appeal, topic, title, thumbnail, 10 sec, retention, personalization, yielding more impressions, etc). plus I feel higher and lower view counts can't objectively represent the experience that any individual viewer had had with a video]
1:51:26 - seeing the things we do having an impact on someone is awesome
1:55:42 - interesting, that vibe of being there (looking forward to a new upload feeling) + difficulties in being experimental
Usually you get the best out of your guests, but this time the guests got the best out of you! Really interesting and enjoying, you three have a great chemistry
Another great Podcast Lex. Beautiful and interesting ladies. Never heard of them before this so thanks for the introduction.
first for me too. and here i thought i knew it all 😉
I never thought I'd be so drawn into the chess world, but Lex's conversations have the effect of making previously uninteresting topics seem wildly exciting and full of compelling characters. You have an immense ability to make people interested in things, Lex.
First Magnus now them? Chess fans just getting treated here lately! Thanks for the great content!
Awesome guests Lex, these two sisters are incredibly fascinating and you once again found them! Great job, great show!!
Both humbling and hopeful to meet these youngsters with really beautiful minds.
Thanks man. You consistently make the world seem like a better place.
Holy carp! Did not expect to see these two on here. Good stuff!
34:39 I love how Andrea gets excited about her sister talking about chess.
Great content from three amazing human beings.
Absolutely loved how much this conversation felt like a "two way street".
Love the Botez sisters! 👯♀️ Looking forward to watching this after work
Thanks Lex, you always come up with the most interesting guests.
Never stop your 'silly' podcast! It's important!
I've been getting these young ladies in my algo randomly and now they're on Lex's podcast.
39:50 "for people just listening, there are two pawns who just came out to meet each other" -> both girls smile at his commentary at the same time. Get 'em Lex, you tiger
Interesting note: When they made the Queens Gambit, the directors initially had planned to have Garry Kasparov play Borgov. However, the movie length for filming was too long for him from chess tournaments, so he offered to help make the chess more realistic over the board at least!
Lex has his finger on the pulse for sure! Great job picking these 2. I watch them often.
i misread that for a sec
You might be a simp.

Woke up and decided to check TH-cam for any new chess cheating controversy news, and to see if Lex had any new interviews up. Crazy.
I hope they troll Magnus a lot during this.
He seemed to be as much of a robot as Lex during the interview - both of them barely moved throughout!
Lex will probably bring Hikaruka Numaraka next
@@bronson4574 why not bring Hans Niemann on? Seems like a fun guy and will at least provide spectacle ^^
@@daarom3472 Niemann is great. He's actually good, but he's crass and awkward in so many ways. Hilarious combination. I don't think he cheated. Hans is totally the type to beat Magnus yet lose multiple times to Andrea (actually happened).
@@mortenrl1946 Anyone with a brain can tell Neimann is lying, but who really cares. Chess has sucked ever since the invention of the computer. Bobby Fisher agrees.
Great people to have as guests. You did them justice with the thumbnail. I need to hire your photographer. They look amazing together.
They did an awesome job having a conversation and not just being interviewed… We got more out of Lex on this than on any other episode. 👏👏👏
it was a treat to see the sisters talk about the behind the scenes of what they do in a serious setting. great episode
Two interviews for the price of one? Lex is really stepping his game up.
I really like these two, I often feel weird about it like I’m being a fanboy but I enjoy their content and they seem genuine. Cool episode
Parasocial relationships are one-sided relationships, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other's existence. Parasocial relationships are most common with celebrities, organizations or television stars.

He's right.
@@drewber2006 liking people you watch isn't inherently parasocial. It's when you start considering them as more than entertainers / streamers / whatever, and start feeling like they're your friends.
Yea I understand the celebrity thing, I just mean I feels like I’m buying into their shtick. I’m a young man who likes chess and go and games in general, I could watch anybody. But instead I’m watching two young attractive girls play chess? There is a feeling of being had, like the gimmick is working and I feel bad that it is somehow.
55:50 Lex is cheeky literally describing a “Botez Gambit” 😂 Love it! ❤
"It happens to everyone" 😂😂😂
This CD is very calming th-cam.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq the first meditation focuses on breathing, the second guides you through the Buddhist metta bhavana--loving kindness to all, and the third is a meditation to be used when walking. him is originally from Scotland, so there is a little accent to his voice, but it is very soothing and not at all distracting. If you are a beginner to meditation, this CD will walk you through all the steps of relaxing and breathing as well as sending out the positive thoughts of love and kindness that will be returned to you. We have several CD's, but this one is a favorite that we choose most often.
love the strategic mic placement for Andrea ensuring no spikes if she ended up yelling
The variety of sub-cultures that Lex explores on this podcast never ceases to keep me interested. Lex, you're the gift that just keeps on giving. The work you're putting continues to facilitate the growth of love and understanding in the world that you seek to achieve. Keep it up brother.

This is well said. Agreed fully!!
I already liked the Botez sisters, but this really showed me how fucking cool and badass they are. So insightful

I'm loving your dive into the chess community Lex. First Magnus and now the Botez's. Can't wait for you to have Levy on!
Alex gets around on the youtube influence sphere. It's actually kind of impressive imo. One of my favorite moments is her reaction to MoistCritkal beating XQC in 5 rounds.
Love seeing these two in a different light!
I think lex is one of the most goodhearted folks out there. For real. Epic being!
He's the funniest guy in chess imo. Many don't seem to get his humour though 🙂
Lex clearly has a calming effect on the Botez sisters.
It was much more enjoyable to listen to them on this podcast rather than on their streams.
Like they said, the chaos is there just for views. When they don't have to exaggerate, they're most likely like this.
It shocks me that even now people don't understand 'stream personality'. They even mentioned it in this very podcast.
Two queens on the Chess board!
@Mike Byrne by queen he doesn't mean best female players...
Thank you Alex about mentioning the monetary part and the issues about not just focusing on just one thing that you limit other opportunities in life.
Gosh, 3 humble genuine people talking about this kinda stuff, it may be the best insight into fame for humble people. Aren’t they in their early 20s? Sooooooooooooo mature!
I’ve only seen them on stream I’m really interested to see how they’ll be on this as there very high energy on stream especially Andrea
