    Really coming along! If you convert to open drive, your beautiful '36 rear radius rods won't be up to the task of stabilizing the rear end and you'll need ladder bars. ($$). I recommend watching TH-cam user "Irontrap garage" had a great episode on shortening the closed driveshaft. I believe you have the skills and tools to do it and I saw that old Ford three speed laying there wanting to be used in a hotrod.

    I looked up what a rear spring spreader looked like and what it looks like is a turn buckle with c-cups on the ends that catch the eyelets of the spring. As you turn the buckle it spreads the spring until it fits the shackles.

    nice to see i'm not the only one having to work outdoors. but it's a satisfying milestone i'd say and an inspiration for me to keep going.
