He always casts his films brilliantly and really has created some of the best performances from the actors he mentions here - Kilmer, Cruise, Foxx, Pacino, De Niro and Day-Lewis.
His movies makes me feel something. Many of them has an intriguing atmosphere, great cast and interesting characters. He seems to really care about each characters life
Gosh, this guy is effortlessly visionary. What could’ve been a really banal press junket interview is instead responded with detailed and thoughtful insights into his craft. Michael Mann Forever
This IS his finest work....You, I, just get swept up in the silent, clean, safe environ of LA in the middle of the night....where all seems wonderful....if you don't look too hard...
He's unique filmaking style is very exciting amways brings the best out of the writers, actors , music, etc I have enjoyed every one of his films Heat The insider And collateral are my favorites
I loved how he refered to Formula One. He's American, he's surely aware of NASCAR, Champ Car, Indy etc. But he chose to mention F1. Seems like those days at England weren't for nothing.
and now he's making the Ferrari movie. he's always been passionate about racing, and it's weird that it took him this long to finally make his passion racing project
The way Michael Mann is able to create shootout scenes is by far some of the best in the world when it comes to the realism of it. From what I understand he uses real guns with blanks?
I once had an idea for a movie that was like a crime-drama mixed with a murder-mystery thriller that I could see Michael Mann being the director behind the project. The story centered two female protagonists both around their late twenties to early thirties: One woman is a straight-laced and brilliant FBI agent assigned to recruit and lead a elite team of special agents to find a cunning yet highly-intelligent serial killer who starts targeting her and her team when they get too close to his tail and the other woman is a hard-edged and unorthodox DEA agent who goes undercover and infiltrates a drug kingpin's organization in which she uses illegal and unethical tactics to destroy his empire including igniting a war between his crew and the other crime families/gangs of the city. Eventually, the two women meet each other when their investigations suddenly collide and get tangled up together and they both begin to realize that their cases are strangely connected to each other.
COLLATERAL is one of my favorite movies of all time!! what can i say awesome director (THIEF - THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS - HEAT - THE INSIDER - COLLATERAL - PUBLIC ENEMIES)
Our Republican dictators should pass a law (or a least a binding resolution) that Mr, Man must now output 2...yes TWO new movies per year. That will release many of us fromth torture of having to wait for his movies.
I don't know how these smaller TH-cam channels get interviews with Hollywood people. Maybe they're just nice people and don't mind helping out a small outlet.
My absolute favorite director and the movie "Collateral" was really great until the silly, silly, stupid, cliché-ending. Because Vincent (which was played by a superb Tom Cruise) was as bad as they get, and good as they get, when it came down to killing, then to see him die like that at the end was just utterly pathetic. Vincent should have, of course, killed one of them, preferably the lawyer.
Every aspiring filmmaker should just listen to Michael Mann interviews for at least 5 hours a week. He will help them understand internally why they make the artistic decisions that they do. He sure did for me.
I love the visuals in his movies, brilliant.
And the vibe and music
@@morten1 incredibly atmospheric this film. Wow
Great movie Tom and Jamie great performances
One of the best directors especially for detail. He tells you everything about the film making in great detail. Brilliant, love his voice.
He always casts his films brilliantly and really has created some of the best performances from the actors he mentions here - Kilmer, Cruise, Foxx, Pacino, De Niro and Day-Lewis.
I can listen to him talk about films all day. So passionate
A true hero. So intelligent and humble. One of the greatest to ever do it!
Collateral is such a great film. Thanks for sharing Klaus Kat
Collateral is an awesome movie.
Michael Mann is an awesome director.
And this was an awesome interview!
Great job!
No this want an awesome interview
His movies makes me feel something.
Many of them has an intriguing atmosphere, great cast and interesting characters.
He seems to really care about each characters life
Exactly unlike Many of the "great" directors...cough tarantino Nolan...villenue...cough
@@isaackmojica8302 Did you get offended?
@@morten1 nah...the opposite... Yeah (pacino voice)
Micheal Mann is far better at creating characters the Christopher Nolan is
Well said. Intriguing atmosphere.
I thought collateral was one hell of a good movie. Definitely underrated. Tom Cruise's character was bad ass.
really talented director.. a smart man.. i can really relate to his films.
No-one, and I mean no-one does the urban landscape at night better than Mann.
There is a "feel" to it that's unique, floating dreamlike state. The music also. The atmosphere of it.
@@takaorobinson8719 I think Liminal would be the word.
But why thought? It looks boring and ugly. So why so much focus on that?
Correct! ❤

Michael Mann Forever
My favorite director
Very smart man. Seems like a pretty cool dude, too.
This guy is the FUCKIN' MAN!!!
Michael Mann is a genius director! I love him
this guy was the show runner of the miami vice tv series as well. talented man
I love this movie so much.
Collateral is an AMAZING movie, Toms performance in it was so impressive
Don't forget Jamie's he did an incredible job as well
Saw Collateral in the theater; loved it.
Possibly the very best from Cruise.
This IS his finest work....You, I, just get swept up in the silent, clean, safe environ of LA in the middle of the night....where all seems wonderful....if you don't look too hard...
Not even close. Heat, The Insider, Thief are greatest of all time movies for their genre
Miami Vice is so damn underrated @@jeffcunningham0389

The insider
And collateral are my favorites
He needs an Oscar, even if they are overrated.
His filmography is top fucking notch.
His films are not overrated they are works of art
@@jessebrucepinkman9834 I think he meant the Oscar award is overrated
Michael Mann rocks!
Great questions my man.
He should have won for The Insider. One of the greats that will never have an Oscar.
Should have won for Heat as well..
4:03 great "because"
Excellent movie.

I love that for Michael Mann "massive compression" means under 2 hours.
And what’s even funnier is that the movie is like a min shorter than 2 hrs. It’s like 1 hr 59 mins. So maybe not massively compressed after all lol.
@@javierpizarro9852 Lol! I'm eternally happy for that flaw in him.
All of his movies are long . Heat was worth it , though.
Mann is the best director in the worl !!!
The way Michael Mann is able to create shootout scenes is by far some of the best in the world when it comes to the realism of it. From what I understand he uses real guns with blanks?
Yes he does
I love M Mann films, just love em. Interviewer was star struck, that's fine.
he's a great director. it's good to hear an interview of a creative person like michael and he will really go into detail when answering questions.
Too bad the interviewer had no idea what MM was even talking about.
It's not hard to figure out that this guy has a massive iq. The way he speaks is precise yet very stimulating.
Absolutely Michael Mann went to London film school in his 20's
This is his best film it's perfectly directed a true classic.
Great interview, could have gone longer...

Best director of all time
Michael Mann has that rare inner tough and outer mallow persona.
Does anyone know if Michael Mann appeared in the 1976 film "Coma" starring Michael Douglas ?
Did he want Vincent to wear the same suit DeNiro war and Heat?
Mann is the man!!!!
can't believe I have to wait almost a year until his next movie comes out.
Our Republican dictators should pass a law (or a least a binding resolution) that Mr, Man must now output 2...yes TWO new movies per year. That will release many of us fromth torture of having to wait for his movies.
The briefcase scene is
The Best Pistol Fighting scene in cinematic history.
Tom's best movie!
It was definitely one of his best I don't know about the best did you see Maverick the new one
looks like the interviewer was star struck.
true dat (big fan of HEAT). can't blame you, i would be the same too if i were on your shoes. its classy of Mann helping you go thorugh this ordeal.
"the world became a bit mroe thematic at night" great answer.
A well thought of question
he checks his watch at the start, like "I'll take 5 minutes for this shet and get outta here"
I liked Collateral well enough, but nothing since Alien has enthralled me as much as Heat.
I don't know how these smaller TH-cam channels get interviews with Hollywood people. Maybe they're just nice people and don't mind helping out a small outlet.
Michael Mann, hey! Sup? Its been 3 yrs since Public Enemies, put something out soon pls!
How’d you like Blackhat
very intresting guy
Chris Nolan and Michael Mann pwn
Damn!
Genius director.
After this interview...the poor guy realized he was better suited to digging ditches.
God tier
gr8 film-- the bezst t.c. film
Does anyone thinks that Mann is a bit high here?
The interviewer seemed to be unprepared and Mann filled in all the gaps essentially answering the questions the interviewer should have been asking.
Great observation.
Absolute bollocks
The interviewer's face at 3:41 just screams "I can't stand this bitch"
Why is he giving the nazi salute in the thumbnail?
Right there is an interviewer who is totally out of his depth.
This interview had little to do with Collateral.
@tmanxxxx
Smart Cookie Michael Mann
As smart as they come :)

All this does is confuse us to hell and back .
Worst. Interviewer. Ever.
Bad interview
I like some of his movies, but he doesn't sound that smart here. He sounds incoherent and seems to ramble on about nothing.
